Input For Upgrade

The only other thing I will say for now is that the Moto Maxx is not a Verizon phone. The Droid Maxx is a Verizon phone. The Moto Maxx is a world phone that is similar to the Droid Maxx and Droid Turbo. I know it can be confusing, but make sure you are looking at the name Motorola Droid Maxx to use on Verizon.

Oh, thank you for clarifying that for me! yes, there's so many Maxx phones my head wants to spin. At least with the Samsung I can keep track with the numbers LOL

Really can't go wrong with any of the top tier phones that were released two years ago if that's your price range. If you can I would personally splurge just a little and go one generation ahead, that way the phone will last you even longer and be a bit more future proof.

For instance, my s4 has Lollipop, but who knows if it'll get the next version of Android. The s5, though not confirmed, I'm willing to bet it would get the next version.

I'm really impressed with the Samsung S5, but the asking prices for the Motorola Droid Maxx and S4 are silly low. I have it narrowed down to those two. I'm a little nervous about switching from Motorola to Samsung and not getting the hang of the changes quickly, but I'm also wondering if I'll be disappointed in the lack of a "new and exciting" if I just step myself up with Motorola... I guess if I get buyer's remorse, I can always sell it to my husband or one of my kids who would probably jump at the opportunity to leave their Bionics behind...

Both of those phones are awesome. You will be happy with both. From personal experience, the Droid Maxx is a killer phone and has a lot of new and awesome features compared to the Droid Bionic; Touch less Controls, active display, NFC, wireless charging, trusted devices, Moto Assist (home Mode, driving mode, etc), Moto Connect, 100% hands free Google Now commands, awesome battery

How is life without an SD card? I'm so accustomed to keeping my pictures and music separate during FDRs? I guess if I get a newer phone, maybe I won't be doing resets every few weeks, huh?! Also, even on a brand new battery, I only get about a half day of minimal use -- texts, about 30 minutes of calls, and an hour of web use. What can I expect with the Maxx? The thought of moving into a phone without a removable battery to swap mid-day makes me break out into a cold sweat....

I go from 6 Am of the charger all day, pretty heavy use it until around 10PM back in the charger and don't think I have ever been below 40%. So I get around 16 straight hours and still have plenty of battery left.

Oh, that'll work! Do you have the 16 or 32? I am only finding 16 for sale. Doubt I would need more, but the lack of an SD card makes me a little hinky...

I have the 16GB. It was all I could find last year brand new, and I wanted brand new more than a used 32 GB. I have a lot of music stored on my phone and still have 4GB available. But I don't take many pictures. If you do take a lot of pics and need the extra storage the S4 may be the better option. For me, 16GB is fine, but that is not enough for everyone.

If you and your family take and share a lot of pictures, I would go with the S4. Samsung is known for having fantastic cameras in their a Galaxy S models. The camera on the Moto is "ok", but it simply doesn't compare with the S4 if you're really into using your smartphone to take pictures.
While the Maxx & S4 are both great devices, I would personally recommend the S4, simply for the extra bells & whistles it provides over the Maxx.
In regards to screen quality the S4 has a 1080p screen and they Maxx is 720. The resolution and ppi is much better on the S4, as is viewing your device in direct sunlight. The ext sd card & removable battery is also a plus (at least for me) and you can purchase a replacement back cover so you can charge the S4 wirelessly.
As I previously mentioned, if you can swing the extra 80 to 100 dollars, definitely go with the S5. It's well worth the extra money.
Good luck with your decision! [emoji2]

S5 tap'n

The s4 is getting pretty old and the s5 is a pretty good phone, it may cost the most of the 3 phones, but at least it has an sd card and a removable battery. One other thing about the maxx is the phone may be 16gb bit after the system UI you will only have about 11-12gb of storage available.. Not much after pictures and apps..

Maybe venture out to a Verizon store so you can see and hold each one? I am a Moto fan and the Maxx works for my needs. But it may not work for your needs if you have a lot of music and take a lot of pics. Tough choice. The Moto X is another excellent phone that came in 16 and 32 GB sizes, just throwing that out there. That phone sold like hot cakes and helped put Moto back on the map.
