I don't know the answer to all of these, but if it is NO to most then a tablet doesn't even come close to being a desktop, laptop or even netbook replacement.
Can you print documents from an Android tablet?
Can you run a reasonably powerful photo or video editing program?
Can you run flt, mov, avi and wmv videos without conversion?
Can I rip CDs to the device?
Can I connect various exercise monitoring equipment (heart rate, BP, etc) to it?
Can I install the exercise monitoring software to it to chart progress?
Again, if the answers are NO to most of these, then is not even close to replacing even my netbook. Perhaps some just use a computer for surfing the web, playing a few games and taking photos and videos and posting them to their facebook page and then a tablet is all they need, but me and most people who I know do much more with their computers.

True...wouldn't matter if the iPad2 had the exact same specs as the iPad1 people would rush out and buy it. If it says Apple they will blindly buy it.. So now the competition is also battling a cheaper price point. They better drop their prices if they want to stay competitive. It's not about having better hardware when it comes to going against Apple. The competition is up against a brand not a superior product.
Nonsense CK. If people buy because of the Apple brand it's because of good marketing and producing a quality product. I don't accept that apple sheep theory just like I don't believe that people who have android would only buy…..
On second thought, maybe there is some truth to that.
Love my Xoom at 1.5ghz, no way in hell I'd trade it for an iPad 2 and the closed ecosystem that comes with it... Not to mention the interface straight out of 2007. Xoom also still has the better screen and better aspect ratio. 4:3 is lamesauce.
Until they seperate these things from itunes, I'll never buy one. I love apple devices. If anyone argues that the hardware isn't superior.... take the ipod nano for example, fantastic device and there's nothing like it on the market, too bad you have to use itunes to put music on it.
For me, itunes ruins it all. Putting anything on it is a hassle, and anything you buy (ie, music) is limited in how you use it or where you put it. I much prefer android, where I plug it in, put music where I want music, and then good to go......f**k itunes.

I don't know about Android for sure, but you can print on some bluetooth printers with iPad. I imagine you can with Android too.
But you make a valid point. I don't see them replacing laptops, I just see them as a different device.
I agree with the words CK says, but Hook, you nailed the reason... people blindly buy (i.e. TRUST) the Apple name BECAUSE their marketing strategy has successfully made the connection between the word "APPLE" and "QUALITY" and their products back it up. So now, people who know nothing about either Apple OR Android will automatically pick Apple. However... the diligent consumer will end up with an Android product... the vast majority of consumers, however, don't necessarily fit into that category, so VOILA! Apple dominates the market by default... Score one for the Apple marketing department.

I honestly think a good tablet could replace a laptop for most users. With my gtab, I hardly have to break out the old laptop. When I do, it is usually for work type stuff. I can upload pics straight from my camera, and browse flash websites. Laptop is only for heavy lifting.
I said something similar in another thread. I bought a Netbook because I didn't need a big laptop. And now I use my Droid for most everything and bring out my netbook once in a while. Since there are keyboards for these tablets, they can work like a netbook and will probably take the place of them. If I was getting a new home computer today, I would seriously look at tablets, it would be easier to carry around then even my netbook (unless I wanted to carry the keyboard with it).

Actually, someone that researches subjects closely will buy what fits them and the purposes the best without brand loyalty. That's why I have an iPad, MacBook Pro, iPod Touch, Dell Desktop, Droid Incredible, iPhone 4 for my wife and a mix of other devices. Marketing strategies have nothing to do with my Apple purchases. Quality and use do.
Price wise, it comes down to what the consumer wants. If they want 32 gb then the prices are about the same. Faster? Is the dual core A5 @ 1ghz faster then the dual core tegra 2 @ 1ghz? Proof?
Screen resolution is worse AND noticeable. Additional cost for HDMI out... I'm not saying the the iPad2 isn't a good offering, but it's certainly not the second coming everyone was expecting.
