iPAD ruins Android's chances if you ask me...

If it was up to Apple, the only innovation would be Apple innovation. Most people appreciate a controlled experience because they want a device that's easy, not powerful and flexible and open. It's sad to watch really.

Concerning gaming, you can't even upgrade your video card on a Mac. The only games they support are old games like UT2003. They're way behind the hardware curve.
Dude, this isn't meant to replace a desktop computer. Your logic is flawed. You can't upgrade a PC or Mac laptop or any of the slate tablets for that matter no matter what they are using. You are comparing Desktop PC/Mac computers to the iPad which makes no sense. This only shows that you have no concept as to what the iPad is meant for.

I bought a Dell top of the line XPS about 10 months ago. It had 2.66GHz dual core, 6MB cache, 4GB RAM, 7200rpm hard drive, the best video card they offered at the time (512MB ATI Radeon)...

And I couldn't even run Warcraft at max settings, let alone games like Call of Duty etc. If your argument against the iPad is about gaming, you're not even in the right thread. Go game on a desktop or console because nothing mobile is going to do it for you. None of these WinMo, Android or other tablets are going to be able to upgrade either. And that's what you should be comparing the iPad to. Saying that you can't upgrade a Mac video card has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the iPad or this thread at all.

Went to the Apple store the day it was released to check it out. Not impressed.
So after all your hot air in this thread you ONLY saw it for the first time today? ROFL

And of course you didn't go into it with an open mind, either.

BTW we aren't talking about the iPhone or Droid this is about the iPad. Which, btw, sold over 600k in just the first week.
He said "the day it was released", not today...

Ah reading comprehension mistake on my part. The rest of the post still stands.

You're missing the point as to why I brought this up. It's Apple's innovation concept. They stifle innovation, and try to mute competition in their over-hyped advertising campaigns. Words like "awesome", "incredible" and "amazing" are repeated so much that it drills into people's mind something that they must absolutely own if they don't want to be a toothless hillbilly living in some shack somewhere. It's simply not true, and it's not real. The truth lies in the specs and actual capabilities of the device.

No, I'm not looking for Warcraft or Battlefield on my phone. But the possibility is there, and it's undeniable. Again, you're on an Android forum, be prepared to defend yourself.

You forgot "Magical"

I started with an iPod Touch, got an iPhone, have had Mac laptops, starting with the G4. As soon as Droid hit the market I had it (Nov. 6). I still actually have an iPhone, sits on my nightstand and doesn't move. I still pay AT&T hoping that sn(apple) will actually allow me to do something with my phone, without having to jailbreak.
You can't upgrade a laptop? Wow, I've been working with computers longer then most of you have been alive and I have yet to find a pc based computer, laptop, whatever that I can't make run faster, add more memory to, etc. I've never been able to upgrade a sn(apple) product, except for ram.
The iPad is really a joke, foisted on the masses just as the rest of the jokes have been. Tablets have been out for a long time, the new ones coming out this year will be better then anything the current offering is. Buy now, that way you can upgrade in 6 months to one that has 3G. Forget about sticking in a SD card so that you can download pics and docs right now.
Jobs is a great marketer and there are a lot of fanboys. There always will be, but if you want to talk Apple, go to their forum.

Thanks G8TR. Some of us have been in the technology field for quite some time and have experience with a vast array of systems, including but not limited to desktop PC's, laptops, lunch box computers, mobile solutions, etc. The ones of us that are true to technology are VERY open minded to new technologies, and always are on the edge of our seats with anticipation of what is to come. The first computers we had back in high school were Apple IIe's, I just couldn't afford one because they were $2000 at the time. Of course Franklin released the Apple IIe clone for $1500, and thus competition came about. We're not speculating, we're stating facts based on experience. Apple has yet another beast on its hands. I went to the Apple store, again, the day they released the iPad, with co-workers who are all Apple freaks. One of my developers comments were "it's just an oversized iPhone". And yet it doesn't even have all the features of the iPhone, it can't place a call. His response was "what are you going to do, hold it up to your head?". Yeah, and use some duct tape while you're at it.... Some people still don't get "bluetooth". Anyway, it's just the mentality of the Apple fanboy.

There are many like this in the tech field as well. Hardcore Linux guys who say there is no place in the world for Windows, but then again, those guys aren't heavy gamers. Hardcore Apple fans who think there is no place in the world for anything other than Apple products, just waiting for the new shiny toy to come out that they can't change the battery on. It just stupifies me to see such ignorance, and closed minded people. Embrace technology in a cross platform, open minded fashion. There's a place for everything, and anything is possible, especially in an open source environment. I won't even go into my thoughts on Microsoft, but even they have a place.

Looks as though some of my posts may have been moderated. Sorry if I got off topic too far (to the moderator), but just stating facts alongside some opinion. Don't want to start a flame war, just standing up for the Android community out here. I know others would agree with me, and others will not.

Another great thing for me with Apple - native support for Arabic languages. You can't even get true Arabic support on the Droid even with root.

I love my iPad , it's the best thing ever . If you don't own one you can't see it , but after you bought one it's simply magical . It truly is the best browsing experience I've seen , all the webpages load so fast and the scrolling is just outstanding , the pages , , add-ons , pop-ups etc. work way better than on that Fire**** , I have yet to meet one site that doesn't work . I also like to use it to watch pictures from my camera and use it as a picture frame , the transfer from my camera is so faaaast . The email client is top notch , and the sync with my work exchange server is great , it makes things so easy , now from the comfort of my couch I can just open an attachment to get an address , open a new window with my agenda to see where I'm going to be at that hour , open a new window with google maps and calculate the distance and then open a new window with my calendar to post an update . The eBook reader is magical , I can read twice as much as on my Kindle , the vibrant colors makes my eyes want to never leave the screen , I only get distracted by a BUZZ from some friend that want to videochat , which is another magical feature . I also love to share my DivX movies from my desktop to the network and watch them on my iPad , I usualy save the ones that I like and transfer them to my phone SDCard . I was amazed that I could install the CD with my wireless house monitoring software without any additional drivers , now I can see everything that happens right in my iPad's status bar , this is truly magical .And I could go on but I feel an urge to play Farmville on my iPad again so I will go and play now

You should go back to smoking your bong because your ramble is nearly incomprehensible.

So, someone goes out, buys an iPad, likes it, and now is somehow not part of the brotherhood? One of the things about technology, is preference. I for one, enjoy technology that is upgradeable, expandable, and can evolve a bit, before it runs out of usefulness. I don't like technology that is limited, closed off, and proprietary.

When I used to service, build, and upgrade computers, I hated the proprietary BS that some system makers built into the systems they marketed, making parts that worked only with their systems, and cost an arm and a leg to replace. I liked being able to build a computer, and then buy whatever I wanted at the local computer store to put in my system, from whatever manufacturer I wanted.

To be honest, I am not sure if I would have a use for an iPad or similar device, because I have my laptop, my Droid, and a desktop at home. As far as I am concerned I am covered, an iPad, or something similar would be superfluous. From what I gather, the only thing the iPad doesn't do that the iPhone does, is make phone calls.. same goes for the iPod Touch. In fact, I look at the iPad, or even, and Android powered slate to be an enlarged version of my smartphone.... how much sense does that make?
