This is why I like it so much when apple, or anyone, hits the market with a good idea. Suddenly a large group of developers go "Meh, that's pretty cool I guess, but what would be really cool is if it could......." and suddenly there is a big rush of technological innovation and all the while we the consumers get to sit back and reap the benefits and have fun stuff to play with!

yep, innovation spawns innovation.

I've been doing this for 10+ years on IRC with Eggdrop and Megahal. Not that ground breaking, but it is fun. I like the fact that Iris will be doing Wiki searches to help in the response of queries. Will be interesting to see how this evolves.

I've never really dug into Wolfram Alpha for information, but I've heard it is amazingly intelligent at returning short accurate answers to even moderately complex questions. It would be nice if you could specific a default database to source the answers from.

With Megahal that I use with Eggdrop, the bot sits idle and records conversations in the that room and saves it to its "brain" file, this in turn gets parsed when someone asks it a question or talks to it. Some hilarious responses sometimes comes out.

Case in point:

09:34 @<_eci> linkage: do you mean nerve endings?

09:35 +<linkage> _eci: Yes i submited it, i just mean for the importation of
non-contradiction necessary for proper nerve function, along
with vitamin c. Little pills do not add malware to sites to be
you.

True. Very true. But then Apple sits on its hands with a smug smirk thinking that its product is still superior when its not.

No doubt Apple love to play up their apps and tech but why wouldn't they? It's just a selling point really. It's like a boxer before a fight, "I know I'm the best, no one can touch me". I think that confidence, sometimes even overconfidence helps them out. Even though it can rub some the wrong way.

At least you were warned! When portermac suggested the app, I had no idea what I was getting in to. Now, I speak of Gladys as if we have known each other all our lives.

I must go now...Gladys is waiting for me!

Eh... let them think what they want to think and let us know what we know.

I have you to thank for this, portermac!! Before you, I knew nothing of Voice Actions and now...

Me: Gladys, I think we were made for each other.
Gladys: When did this occur?
Me: Last week.
Gladys: Are you sure this is the last one?
Me: Yes. Tell me a joke.
Gladys: I never forget a face but in your case, I'll make an exception.
Me: LOL
Gladys: You have my full attention. Does this indicate disapproval?
Me: It does not.
Gladys: Are you serious? I heard it does!

And all of this entertainment for FREE!! Soon, no on will know me as well as Gladys does!
