You are a special kind of idiot. Lol. Are u wearing ur helmet? Just Stop talking. You are embarrassing yourself. We get ur an apple fanboi. Move on.

ha...this is funny. so you are able to just send an email off to google with your contributions to the next android version? awesome. i envy you and your oneness with the open source software that is android. you sound like a 5 year old who just recycles the lines "OPEN SOURCE!!!" whenever someone asks you what's great about android.

the more you speak the more it becomes evident you have NO IDEA what open source means...

it's funny how everyone is suddenly an expert on open source, when before android, you people were probably the same ones using itunes and ipods.

By definition it is "open source" in practice there are restrictions. The definition of "open source" is:

of or relating to or being computer software for which the source code is freely available

You're arguing the PHILOSOPHY of open source. Not only that you ALWAYS twist and embellish people's comments. It seems to be a reoccurring thing with you.

I was actually using Windows Mobile before that in 2001 before iPods even existed. Thanks.

You are ALWAYS acting like Android is the worst thing on the market and supporting Apple. Why is that? Just curious.

Is there any benefit to moving to the iphone 4 IF I JAILBREAK IT?
It's completely a subjective matter. Are you really expecting to hear anything other than "Android FTW!" on this site? :icon_rolleyes:

Open source describes practices in production and development that promote access to the end product's source materials—typically, their source code.

...again...firefox is truly open.

https://developer.mozilla.org/En/Developer_Guide

if i wanted to i can contribute and collaborate with developers on the newest version on firefox. i can submit my changes and the community can approve or deny it. that's open source. every part of firefox was created by the community and not some corporation in california. it has nothing to do with philosophy. it's the practice of open source.

you cannot do that with android. is there somewhere where i can tell google what i want in android, submit my changes to the code and the google community decides if it's ok for Android Honeycomb? Would you like to point that area of the web out to me? how can you even argue this? seriously. it makes no sense. you're arguing for the sake of arguing, and that happens constantly on this site.

and naturally i would expect that because I don't say "ANDROID ROCKSSSSSSS, IPHONE CAN SUCK IT!!!" that you think i support apple. no. i just don't act like android is my mother and gives me life. both os's are excellent and both can do things the other can't. sorry i'm not a fanboy...i know that's not liked around these parts...

Yeah you can always count on Android FTW, Open Source!!, and Apple is a cult on these forums. But again, guess I should expect that before I argue with the kids.

Hey.

*AHEM!* *AHEM!*

I think you need to take up your grievances with the hardware manufactures not Google.

That's all I have to say.

And...you're wrong...again....

Developers can't look into an OS version until it's finished. What part of this do you not understand.?

The source is not public until a major release. You don't see the source for Gingerbread until Gingerbread is released. You can't contribute to Gingerbread until Google decides you can...

Would you like to show me your contributions to Honeycomb? Oh wait...you can't...because you're not allowed to contribute...right?

So AHEM AHEM...indeed...

Did you even read through the site?

Here read this page.

People are able to contribute and if their code/suggestion is approved it is added to the next official implementation of Android. Just because it doesn't fit YOUR definition of open source it does in fact meet the "general" definition of open source.

Ahem.

Wait a f'in minute guys!!!

This is NOT the intent of this thread! I did not want to start a open source debate. In all honesty I can give a **** about open source.

All I care about is that my device can do what I want and how I want it to!

I've had a D1 since they were launched and I have been on countless ROMS for much of that time. The ROMS are more of a personal addiction than a deal breaker. Open source has only given me 3 features that I use often. At least that I know of. 1. ROM manager, 2. tethering, and 3. root to be able to do that stuff in the first place.

Here's what I want to do with my device, you tell me if a jailbroken Iphone can do it:

1. Check my gmail with an app, not the website.
2. Have a widget for my google calendar.
3. Allow wireless tethering without being charged.
4. Backup/restore all Jailbreak apps without Itunes
5. Drag and drop Mp3's and MP4's without Itunes.
6. Backup/restore enitire phone without Itunes.
7. Open mp3's that are emailed to me.

Lets get this damn thread back on topic ok!

haha...it's not my definition of open source. it's the definition of open source. you're suggesting that google creating a software version, keeping the source completely under lock and key until they finish creating it, and then releasing it is true open source? i mean...seriously? google creates the base code, google and google alone rejects or approves changes, google does not release the source until they decide they want to, you as a developer cant see, let alone edit, the source until google tells you you can, and you're comparing this to projects like Linux and Firefox which are the opposite of this in every way imagineable?? Really??

Google touted android as "open source" to win over people like you and the other guy who have no idea what open source means. Clearly they were successful. They are obviously not closed source, but to argue that they're truly open source is about as dumb as saying the iphone would NEVER come to verizon because we would have heard about court cases and lawyers who were fighting the breach of contract or something? That was you, right? LOL. Arguing for the sake of arguing is your strong point. Winning the arguments clearly isn't.
