I'll share my story - I'm a grandfathered unlimited guy who just got his wife (lifetime att user) on my account w a Droid 3 (note the important distinction here - 3G phone) in August.
I read the stories here on the forum today, decided to try it out.
Called 611, hit 0 once, said "costumer svc" once. Waited a minute for a person.
I didn't have to say much. Here are a few things I remember saying:
"My wife was super jealous of my smartphone and the unlimited data for the longest time..."
"...got her one for get bday and at first it seemed like she liked it..."
"...then I noticed she hardly ever uses her data...in hindsight it kinda seems like a shoddy gift, me with my unlimited plan and her with 2gb...id be afraid to go over the limit too."
"so can you point me to someone who can help get her on the same data plan I'm on?"
She went away for a minute or two, came back, and said she'd hook it up. And she did, I've checked online. My wife now has unlimited data like I do.
A couple things - one, I'm a nice guy by nature, but I was Forrest Gump nice for this call. Two, my wife actually uses her phone quite a bit but its typically at home...where I have her connected to the wifi....out of fear of her crappy data cap. I mention this because if they did check to verify any part of what I said, everything would have been ok.
In summary: I was nice, I had a verifiable story, and my wife the 3G user got hooked up w unlimited data. I submit the above to my forum brethren for whatever it's worth.
Is she on a3g

I get the feeling Verizon is plannign to bring back unlimited data.. It seems unlikely that they would be adding unlimited data so easily to our plans otherwise. I mean, if they wanted to stop it, how hard would it be to send an email to all customer reps saying NO unlimtied data for new customers..
With the recent double data promotion and now this spate of unlimited additions, I think they feel their network is robust enough to handle the data, and are doing a stealth soft test of adding more people in with unlimited data.
With ATT now going full steam ahead on it's LTE network, Verizon loses the cachet of having the fastest network. Also, ATT's doing a good job with new phones. However, ATT will most likely not be able to offer unlimited data right now, since they're still rolling out LTE. If VZ waits for a couple of months, just till ATT is blanketing the nation with LTE marketing, and then VZ announces the return of unlimited data.. think of the hit to ATT.
From a financial standpoint, the marginal cost of unlimited data is very low, as compared to the revenue lost when a subscriber leaves. The network is affected if all users suddenly start hitting the tower at the same time, yes, but there are various models that can show how to deal with that issue. In most cases, limited or unlimited will not be the criteria; even if users with 4-6 GB data packs hit the tower at the same time, they will have issues. Worldwide, telcos have found that the people who really abuse their networks are a very small percentage, and can be easily dealt with on an individual basis.
Just my thoughts, but if you see big ads from VZ touting the return of unlimited.. you read it here first!
So, has anyone who did this removed the hotspot feature, and if so did the unlimited data remain afterward?
