Just got unlimited data added to my account today

I tried two nights ago-- even with the fact that I was going to buy a second bionic- and it was a no go. Lady was nice- said she couldn't do it. 4 smartphones with unlimited plans- one without. she did say half her calls were wanting unlimited data.

I just tried again and succeeded finally. I asked for the unlimited 4G hotspot and that when I tried to add it on the website it told me to call customer service to have data plan modified to unlimited for the hotspot feature to be added. After telling him all that he found the right feature and added it. He originally stated that it would be capped at 2Gigs, but after what I told him he found the correct one and now I'm UNLIMITED.... WOOT!!!!!

Thank you all for the help!

Me too!

here's what I posted over on XDA:
It worked for me!!

I only got a Verizon account in October, so there's no way I was grandfathered in. I wasn't even in the US before last spring, so I have NO relationship with any US service provider.

I called and asked for the 4G Hotspot with unlimited Data to be added to my account.

The first guy I called told me nothing doing, you already are on a tiered plan, new customer yadda yadda

The second guy made small talk, and added in the 4G Hotspot with no problem. Two minutes after that my phone updates to show my plan as being unlimited! I logged onto Verizon and it's showing up as unlimited there too..

So life is good, what can I say

Many many thanks to the OP.. I wasn't happy with a 4G phone and no unlimited, but now .. Ah, happy days.

So for any of you who added the 4G Hotspot, did any of you subsequently delete the hotspot online? And did your usage remain at unlimited? I'm very interested in going to unlimited, but don't need the hotspot.

I'll share my story - I'm a grandfathered unlimited guy who just got his wife (lifetime att user) on my account w a Droid 3 (note the important distinction here - 3G phone) in August.

I read the stories here on the forum today, decided to try it out.

Called 611, hit 0 once, said "costumer svc" once. Waited a minute for a person.

I didn't have to say much. Here are a few things I remember saying:

"My wife was super jealous of my smartphone and the unlimited data for the longest time..."

"...got her one for get bday and at first it seemed like she liked it..."

"...then I noticed she hardly ever uses her data...in hindsight it kinda seems like a shoddy gift, me with my unlimited plan and her with 2gb...id be afraid to go over the limit too."

"so can you point me to someone who can help get her on the same data plan I'm on?"

She went away for a minute or two, came back, and said she'd hook it up. And she did, I've checked online. My wife now has unlimited data like I do.

A couple things - one, I'm a nice guy by nature, but I was Forrest Gump nice for this call. Two, my wife actually uses her phone quite a bit but its typically at home...where I have her connected to the wifi....out of fear of her crappy data cap. I mention this because if they did check to verify any part of what I said, everything would have been ok.

In summary: I was nice, I had a verifiable story, and my wife the 3G user got hooked up w unlimited data. I submit the above to my forum brethren for whatever it's worth.

I called to ask about unlimited text and Data and the girl I talked to pretty much said no. Later I got the normal survey call and at the end it asked about other issues. I said that I had just call to check on the unlimited text and data. Later I get a call from another person following up on my survey. Told him my story. He said no problem and put unlimited data on for a penny less than I was paying for the 4 gig.:icon_ banana::icon_ lala:

I get the feeling Verizon is plannign to bring back unlimited data.. It seems unlikely that they would be adding unlimited data so easily to our plans otherwise. I mean, if they wanted to stop it, how hard would it be to send an email to all customer reps saying NO unlimtied data for new customers..

With the recent double data promotion and now this spate of unlimited additions, I think they feel their network is robust enough to handle the data, and are doing a stealth soft test of adding more people in with unlimited data.

With ATT now going full steam ahead on it's LTE network, Verizon loses the cachet of having the fastest network. Also, ATT's doing a good job with new phones. However, ATT will most likely not be able to offer unlimited data right now, since they're still rolling out LTE. If VZ waits for a couple of months, just till ATT is blanketing the nation with LTE marketing, and then VZ announces the return of unlimited data.. think of the hit to ATT.

From a financial standpoint, the marginal cost of unlimited data is very low, as compared to the revenue lost when a subscriber leaves. The network is affected if all users suddenly start hitting the tower at the same time, yes, but there are various models that can show how to deal with that issue. In most cases, limited or unlimited will not be the criteria; even if users with 4-6 GB data packs hit the tower at the same time, they will have issues. Worldwide, telcos have found that the people who really abuse their networks are a very small percentage, and can be easily dealt with on an individual basis.

Just my thoughts, but if you see big ads from VZ touting the return of unlimited.. you read it here first!

I'm beginning to agree with you...
I spoke in detail with a verizon rep yesterday, and what you can get on3g/4g with regards to limits and throttling...
The actual bandwidth load capabilities of the LTE network are so far above the current device and foreseeable equipment usage strain/ capabilities that their concern for 4g usage it's not an issue.
"throttling" only becomes an issue to those running on 3G only equipment...
I.e. my Bionic with average 20gig/ month is unthrottled ...
Wifes Dx avg 2gig / mo is unthrottled
Sons incredible avg 5gig / mo is throttled this month but is re evaluated monthly.

So I would tend to agree with the above statement, especially as the device market rolls further into 4 g mode.

Yes, for sure! The stealth test of unlimited may very well be a test but also Verizon knows darn well most will never hit the limit of the plan they came from. Good thinking on the marketing counter to AT&T. It totally makes sense!

What is throttling? I have unlimited data, but we have only 3G here. Will something change when we get 4G here? Thanks in advance.

I just got the hotspot feature added, but the idiot CSR only did it for one of the two Bionics on my family plan. I had to call back and get someone with a brain to put it back on the primary line.

Now, can someone tell me where to find the hotspot in the feature list so that I can get rid of it? My screen seems to look different than those posted.

UPDATE: For anyone who's in the same boat, the unlimited data is listed under "Change Minutes, Text or Data," but the unlimited hotspot is under "Change Features." Go to the latter to remove the hotspot, if desired.

Just did this myself. It took two calls, but might have been my fault the first time, asking for the wrong thing.

Called 611, when asked what I needed help with by the nice recording, I said "customer service." Told the nice real lady I was trying to add the "4G mobile hotspot" under the "add features" section. It said this feature required an unlimited data plan of 29.99 or higher, and to contact customer service.

She said "let me look at something here..." Came back in a few seconds and said when she went to add the 4G mobile hotspot, it automatically changed my data to Unlimited. So now I have unlimited data, and unlimited mobile hotspot. She did say that the unlimited data might be tied to the 4G hotspot feature, and couldn't say if I would still have unlimited data if I canceled the hotspot. I don't know how much I'll use the hotspot feature, and it is an extra expense on top of the data plan.

So, has anyone who did this removed the hotspot feature, and if so did the unlimited data remain afterward?

I was coming from the 4G/month double data plan, as I just got my Bionic last month, and did not have a smart phone or regular data plan previously. I had the feature phone unlimited data, but that went away when I got my super new phone.
