[KERNEL] Kernel (deprimed_test) - Break It If You Can

Wifi problem

I overclocked my Droid to 1200mhz using Milestone Overclock (and Deprimed #20) yesterday (not the first time doing this on CM7 and Deprimed, but perhaps the first time doing it on CM7.0.3 and Deprimed#20).

The phone ran nicely, however, my wifi stopped working. The phone said it was on, yet it wouldn't detect any wireless networks. I wiped the cache to no avail, then tried reloading CM7.0.3 without Deprimed, but still no wifi. Then I wiped system, boot & cache and reloaded CM7.0.3 (without wiping data). Still nothing.

Finally I wiped the whole phone (system, boot, data & cache) and that finally restored my wifi.

I don't know what happened, but it was definitely triggered by OC'ing with Milestone Overclock.

Has anyone else had a similar issue?

Just out of curiosity, why are you running Milestone with Deprimed? The kernel will overclock without it. I am also running CM7.0.3 with Deprimed at 1100, which is my phones fastest stable speed, and I am having no wifi or 3G issues. But then again I am not running Milestone Overclock.

I was under the impression that running MOC would be just as effective as running the "primed" and "deprimed" commands, just a gui for it. It's worked fine in the past, so I continued to do so.

MOC will only set the top slot where as "overclock" will set seven slots and then you may tweak the numbers. "deprimed" can be used to have the slots set on boot. I don't know if it is causing your issue but it is one less app to worry with.

Read my post earlier here or my thread "wifi issue " in cyanogen. Same exact behavior but I was not using Milestone OC. I was running deprimed 20 at the ulv settings (ovrclock, primed) . This happened 2 or 3 times. I solved it by flashing a backup with the stock kernel. Today is day 3, I think, of running with the stock kernel. No issues so far.

I'm running CM7.0.3.

From the post this fellow mentioned:
There was a known quirk in gingerbread where wifi will not connect or show available networks until any remembered networks are forgotten, after which it will scan and connect properly. As far as I know this has not been fixed yet.

Yes, thanks @mightybrick! I have not been able yo try that because the issue has not occurred again while running on stock kernel.

Yesterday tried #20 on CM703, 3g wouldn't green for more than 2 seconds, so back to stock CM703 (cache and dalvik wipes each time). Today, tried #19 again, took a couple minutes and a few airplane toggles, but all green now. Several voicemail calls, and it greens within 2-3 seconds.

Running the deprimed kernel on cm703 OG Droid, loving it, have it overclocked at 900, runs smooth as a baby's bottom, which is way more than I can say when I had it on stock FROYO not rooted. Battery isn't lasting any shorter with heavy use (being a student in geophysics when most of the hard classes out the way leaves room for goofing off), I use youtube a butt load, as well as FB, games, and actually finished writting a 3040 word paper on QuickOffice in a decent amount of time, needless to stay I still keep my charger handy. Great kernel balanced performance and battery life better than those manufacturers, go figure lol!

Just a heads up for anyone trying the new PE6 beta:

Prime's deprimed kernel works great with ONE exception. Compcache will not play nice with the Elite settings, and will not start automatically when you reboot your phone. I am able to get compcache to work if I enter "restart compcache" in a terminal, however.

Actngrezy has this to say:
"When you flashed his kernel you overwrote the compcache script in pe that allows compache to work properly with elite settings"

This is just an FYI...
On-Demand works great with Navigation but Bumblebee is really slow and does not update the screen and eventually reboots.
