THis is so overwhelming
I finally after 1.5 years am trying to get into this stuff to breathe new life into my phone.
I just got CM7.1 on my phone.
Why do I want this kernal? Is it strictly for overclocking? and how do I apply it?
Its hard to figure all this out because all the posts are by people "in the know", its not exactly noob friendly.
All help is appreciated, in the meantime, I'll keep on reading!
Thanks again.
This kernel might work well on your phone. That's really the only reason you may want it, initially. It's not terribly fast, at 900MHz. It doesn't make your phone do magic.
It is a very solid kernel that works well on a number of Froyo (2.2.x) and Gingerbread (2.3.x) ROMs.
The really cool thing that you might learn about this kernel is that its incredibly versatile. Out of the box it can be run as LV (low voltage) or ULV (ultra LV). Some phones can't handle a ULV kernel... it'll run hot, or laggy, or randomly reboot often. So you can try it, then use a simple script to switch back if it doesn't work.
Furthermore, this kernel uses an overclock file to drive the clock and voltage settings. So later on, you can edit the file to tweak the clock settings and voltages to find what works best FOR YOUR DEVICE.
In short, it's perhaps the most capable kernel out there right now. That's why you want it.
