My battery life is so absolutely horrible. I'm running Rubix 1.9.5, and with just light use I get about 8 hours. I charge it atleast twice a day. I honestly think my battery itself is a bum, and will probably end up buying the extended battery even though I don't feel like paying the $50.
I've been using my phone heavily this morning, and I unplugged it at 7:30 and less than 3 hours later my battery is at 35%.
And for those wondering I have read the How To Extend Your Battery Life threads and adhere to those. I have tried almost everything, including over clocking.
Technically overclocking would kill your battery quicker. Underclocking however should improve it.
I just wanted to chime in and say I feel your pain. I've never gotten more than 10 hours. I'm almost afraid to use it. If I chat or browse the internet for 15 mins, it will drop the battery 10%. I do think I'll go to the extended battery next week. I can't pull the trigger now.... got taxes to pay!!!!
Well yeah I had it underclocked...set to battery maximizer settings. Made it even worse.
I'm going to go to Verizon today and see if they can take a look at my battery, although I don't want to give them my phone since it is so heavily modded. $50 is a lot to make the phone work like it already should have though. Very happy with the phone, but the battery life makes it hard for me.
I agree. Battery life is my biggest complaint. I love my DX, just would love to be able to use it more without worrying about having a charger close by.
They're sending me a new battery for free. It is supposed to come on Monday or Tuesday so we will see if that makes a difference. He said the watermark strip on mine was gone, although it hasn't gotten wet. He said they have been seeing a lot of them just ripping off.
I ended up buying the extended battery, then followed various advice on improving battery life. Some helped, some didn't and some may be a placebo. Streaming video is a good test as I use it quite often. With that setup I was able to get approximately 4 hours through my slingbox. Not bad but still missed the mark.
Next I purchased a Mugen Power 3600 battery, following their instructions for initial charge (12 hours), then repeating discharge/recharge 3-5 times as directed to achieve maximum rated capacity. Yes, the performance improved when following Mugen's instructions.
Thus far I am able view streaming video (again through slingbox) for a minimum of 7 hours which exceeds my expectations.
The OP and others gave some good reccomendations on improving battery life and I'd like to add Autorun Manager works well to lock out hidden processes other apps don't see. Setting screen brightness to minimum required for adequate viewing helps a lot. I use AdjBrightness for that.
Worrying about running out of battery for just about any cpu intensive application during a full day of use is a thing of the past. When possible, I will post battery stats using 100% video streaming.
I'll try to get an an estimate when this month resets in a few days. I should say the numbers I quoted were for 3g from the same location to be consistent, but wifi is also used. IIRC Slingbox optimizes the video based on the connection speed or you can set it manually.
I mainly use on wifi, but its limited at work so 3g was used to test. No doubt it sucks up a lot of bandwidth though.
The battery meter isn't calibrated to the battery and there doesn't seem to be a solution for that. However once the average life is known that's not a big issue.
