I have a Ford Explorer and they put on hancook Tues which are great performance tires but I knew they'd be bad in snow... The first winter I almost killed my self a few times because i had no fear and drove like usual. Last winter I said "hell no" and got a set of Blizzaks on separate rims and it's back to" no fear" again. I had to go from the 20" rims on the original tires to 18" rims for the Blizzaks because that was as big as they get.. Worked out fine!

I've got an Explorer as well; albeit an older one (2003). It needs new tires...it's got 2 different sets of tires on it which isn't good for the 4WD. I wanna get some General Grabbers...great all-weather tire. Had 'em on my previous Explorer, and my dad has them on his as well. I considered winter tires once for my Mustang but it doesn't get bad enough around here to warrant winter tires. It's so infrequent. Driving the Explorer today with the wet weather here again...the Mustang is parked. :)

The 2003 expedition that I traded for the explorer did real well with continental mud and snow which were pretty beefy all season radials. But that was on an f150 truck base... The explorer is more of a car and it changes handling in weather. If you've forms what's working on your Dad's explorer and it's the same climate, you're probably going to do well too.

As long as the tires are the same size, it shouldn't affect 4wd at all. Even matched pairs on per axle is fine.

I ran blizzaks on my mustangs for years. All 4 corners. It's parked for the winter, truck only now.

Love those Blizzaks.. My friend whos a mailman living in a hilly town around here recommended them for me 10 years ago and I've never looked back.. Having stacked tires on rims in the garage all year isn't fun but well worth it in the winter...
