LauncherPro Beta (SUPER FAST & SMOOTH Launcher!)

I finally gave up on this and uninstalled. It was creaking laggy and FCed on Pandora and Slacker. It crashed everytime Slacker is forced to close. I guess you guys have better luck then I do. =/

Does anyone have the link to it? It's not coming up on market on my Incredible and I wanted to try it out!!! Thanks. :)

i've noticed advanced settings seem to cause more forcecloses than usual (which is usually nil) but those are very new settings and I have no doubt the developer will get all the kinks out sooner than later. he seems to update often.

I just tried both Pandora and Slacker (15 minutes each, including running while doing something else with my Droid) while using Launcher Pro (LP). I encountered no problems or force closures. I have been running LP exclusively for 4 days and have not had any FCs for LP.

I have a Motorola Droid running stock 2.1.

This is based on my experience, your most likely will differ.

Just installed LauncherPro Beta 0.4.2

This launcher is FANTASTIC. So many updates in the last week, don't bother reading any reviews written before today.

Features:
- Possibly the fastest launcher out there, once it caches up.
- Up to 4 customizable "docked" launchers - use the default icons, your own custom icons, or select from one of the included translucent grey icons
- Dock background - none, glass, or Froyo-Style (2 icon)
- 5x4 grid spacing - this is KEY. 4 extra icons, and no more annoying poorly-spaced icons! Works in portrait with most/all widgets. Landscape might look a little funky, but who on earth needs a landscape home screen?
- Hide notification bar (bring it back by pressing menu)
- Configure number of screens (3 through 7)
- 5.5 x 4 icon app tray - configurable to 5.5x5
- Optionally hide icon labels

Screenshots:
1). My homescreen. Dock is Glass, 5x4 icons, PowerControl, PureCalendar Agenda 4x2, 8 normal icons, Dock icons for gmail, google voice, browser, and contacts
2). Dock is "froyo-style" with 2 launchers. Google Search, News & Weather, and Analog Clock widgets

LauncherPro gets even better

I keep wonder how this home app replacement can get any better when update comes out.

LauncherPro

This is one app I would encourage the developer to offer a paid version along with the free version. I would gladly contribute a buck or two...

Latest changes:

Just hot on the heels of v0.4.1, here comes a new release! It brings bug fixes and some cool new features

Here’s what’s new:

  • Fixed problem in Android 2.2 where the “Restart LauncherPro” option wouldn’t restart the app.
  • Fixed missing status bar when set to hide notification bar and Notifications was opened from menu.
  • Fixed wallpaper shifting down a few pixels when unlocking the screen.
  • When set to hide notification bar, the status bar will be shown when you press the menu button on your phone. This lets you see what kind of notifications you have, wifi status, etc.
  • New “Advanced settings” screen within the preferences. This will include some settings for those of you who like to tweak.
  • New: Option to choose the number of icons per row in both portrait and landscape mode. The options are 4 and 5 for portrait mode, and from 4 to 8 in landscape mode. (Advanced settings)
  • New: Option to have a 4×5 grid on homescreens instead of the default 4×4. Please note this is experimental. It only works with widescreen devices and in portrait mode. In any other scenario you’ll probably end up with icons and widgets overlaying each other. (Advanced settings)
  • New: Now you can choose a background for the shortcut dock. For now there are three options; No background, Glass shelf, and Froyo-style. More backgrounds coming in future releases.
  • That’s it for now, hope you like the new features

Yeah I installed it last night. Love the 5 columns in the app drawer and the ability to put the glass or froyo style docks behind the icons. Wit certain icons it makes them look a lot nicer.

This dev just ups the ante with every release. I've said before that I have trouble choosing between this and ADW, but right now I'm running LP 0.4.2, this is just too freaking sick. I'm actually going to try running three screens because of the new 5 row home screens!

Yeah... the new update is awesome...

Pressing Menu to see the notification bar is key. I didn't much like having to swipe down, and this will be very easy to get used to. The dock background is very nice as well. Have it set for Glass for now, will likely change with future updates.

As for the 5 rows. At first I thought I would hate it, because I use my phone as a desk clock at work, but then realized it'll still be nice. Just eliminates all that wasted space, which is awesome. Just wish it didn't scrunch everything so much in landscape, but I'm sure that'll be improved with a future update. The bottom row seems to get really scrunched with the bottom, but I can deal.

Overall, very nice update. Makes me chuckle when I see people still running stock. This thing is so sweet its beyond words. And to think... its free...
