LauncherPro Beta (SUPER FAST & SMOOTH Launcher!)

May I ask why?

I kept getting so much lag especially when awaking my device. I tried on the recent .62 version removing all my dock icons but the original and follow the settings you laid out on your homepage. The final issue was that whwn I would go into my app drawer all my apps would be bunched up on top of each other and I would have to wait for few seconds for the app drawer to resort my apps. At first it was rare, then it was starting to happen on a constant basis. .53 seems to handle it all smooth and fast. I have zero lag using that version.

What memory usage setting are you using?

There's something in "High" that could be causing the lag that you experience when you wake up your phone.

When the scrolling caches are empty, the High setting will create caches for all your screens on the first swipe, where the Medium setting will create the caches only for the screens that are in view.

That means that (and this is only when the caches have been deleted for some reason) Medium will have a small lag on each swipe until all the caches are built, and High will have a longer lag only on the first swipe, and then it will have no lag on subsequent swipes.

I have the exact same issue. I'm set to Medium, and am running between 500 and 700 MHz. I use 3 screens. It's weird in that it happens only after using certain programs, but not every time. For example, if I use the web browser, this occasionally happens, but if I use something that takes forever to load like Adobe Reader, I have no issue.

Also, sometimes when I hit the home button, it just sits like it's thinking for 10 seconds and then takes me home.

i lost my shortcuts again to + + + + signs again. this is getting annoying.

Had this happen to me yesterday. Also all my music suddenly sounded like something from a Chipmunks record...lol Everything sped up even my "Droid!" emal/text notification.

I went to the website and downloaded the previous version, no FC's since yesterday.
You know what...I thought I had imagined that. When it happens, changing to the next song fixes it.

I had major issues today. I was stuck in a loop of Force Closes. I even did a battery pull and got stuck in the loop again. Finally it was stable enough for me to open Home Switcher. I downloaded an earlier version again and have been stable ever since. I'm keeping the Stock Home as my default, but am running LauncherPro. That way if I have an issue, a reboot will put me in a stable environment.

Wait for next update, should be fixed.

Happening to me all of the time as well. It usually occurs when I reboot the phone. I then just go into "Preferences" and Restart Launcher Pro" and it is fixed.

However, it is quite annoying.

Preferences>Dock Settings>Uncheck Enable Scrolling.... Hope this helps!! it was getting so annoying with me too, i had to restart launcherpro every time it happened

sorry to double post but i did not explain it well enough...this enable dock scrolling feature makes it like Home++ which allows you to well scroll the dock side to side and have more than five icons so if you like this idea then just leave it on and if you get the +++++ dock just scroll left or right to get the icons back :)

Somewhat irritating

First, I have a moto droid running 2.1 update 1 build # ese81

After installing launcherpro when I wake the phone up it opens to the phone log some times and at others it opens to a folder in apps organizer, and still at other times it will open to whatever app was running last. I have tried to figure out if there is a method to the madness but it seems totally random.
If there is any information I can post or send to the developer to help figure this out please let me know. I really like this launcher!

thanks ;)

I've just fixed it few minutes ago. You need to download v2.0.0b3 ;)
Hey, this is kind of cool. Unfortunately, it looks like your beta version is going to expire tomorrow. Are you going to make this an update within the app in the Market? If so, major props for doing this.

If you have any problems with lp follow these steps to help the dev pinpoint the problems issues

Anyway, here’s how to get a log of the error:

  • Download “aLogcat” from the Market (it’s free)
  • Next time you get a force-close, immediately open aLogCat.
  • Inside aLogcat, choose Menu > Level > Error.
  • Now choose Menu > More > Save Log. The log will be saved to your SD card.
  • Copy the log from your SD card and paste it in this thread on the forum.
Along with the log, it’s also helpful if you write down the following LauncherPro settings:

  • Memory usage option
  • Keep in memory enabled?
  • 3D drawer enabled?
  • Scrollable widgets enabled?
  • Auto-rotation enabled?
  • Number of screens
  • 5 homescreen rows enabled?
  • Are all the screens full with widgets/icons or do you have plenty of empty spaces?
  • Dock scrolling enabled?
That should be enough information to pinpoint what’s causing the problem.

I like this app and believe the dev is doing a good job. Adding features may conflict different devices. So helping him see what the common issues are will help him fix it and keep this good app going.

decided to go back to stock. I like launcherpro ( 7/10 in my book ) but I just had too many issue that need to be worked out b4 i go back. I'm going to see what 2.2 has to bring.

GRRRRRRR. The redraw lag is driving me nuts! I've cut the number of screens I'm using, and that fixed it for a while, but now its doing it again. And sometimes when I hang up a call, the launcher locks up without FCing and I have to pull the battery. If it doesn't improve with the next realease, I'll probably go back to the choppy stock launcher or ADW.

I've gone back to ADW for now. I'll await the next update to LP to see if the problems are resolved. I was really getting attached to LP until the last several updates. ADW is much more stable for now and has most of the same features.

I have sped up my performance by optimizing a few things. First and foremost, I went from 5 screens back to 3. But, I compensated for this by installing both Widgetlocker (widgets on lockscreen, awesome) and Quickdesk (also awesome). Between those two apps and the dock shortcuts, three homescreens is enough for me. Also, I disabled the 3D app drawer, since Fede mentioned that also causes significant extra cpu/memory usage, and put the icons per row settings back to defaults (4/6). I currently have LP's "keep in memory" option disabled, and the memory usage at the default medium.

I just installed quickdesk and did the reduction of the homescreens to three, and immediately noticed things get more zippy again. I will see throughout the next few days if I get fewer FCs (I was having some, but not an awful amount.) But I was immediately able to notice a boost in performance again.

The lesson is... don't just bog down your phone with everything you find and leave it all in there. Make some sacrifices.

Yeah, but this didn't used to be as much of an issue. Part of the fun of the droid is having all those features.
