Leak .242?

By suspicious I meant that it was the update file. I never contemplated whether you had messed with it, I figured someone ELSE may have but as with downloading anything over the internet you never know who may have played with it. I'm cautious like that. I've seen you in the forums and I take anything you say as gospel. That's where I found the MD5 ;). The link I previously used was from earlier in this thread and I didn't think it was provided by you, so I wasn't sure if I should trust it.

I think the reason why I didn't find the thread initially was because I figured I could ignore a thread titled "Downgrade to 902 - No app or data loss". If it had said "SamuriHL's homepage" I would have clicked it :P

SamuriHL, if you thought any of my comments about the reliability of information or files was directed at you, I ask for your humble forgiveness. You've performed magic in this forum. I just wish I knew you personally because I'd love to watch you work and pick your brain with all of my questions.

No I didn't take it like that. I just wanted to reassure you that the files are untampered with. This is why I post the MD5 hashes. Attempting to flash a corrupt file won't work and if you get as far as doing the RSD flash it could leave you in a brick scenario if the update is corrupt. I take that very seriously. So much so that I worked with some people to develop a hashing solution when we push the update to ensure that it copied correctly during the push option. As for the title of. Y thread, yea it started out that far back as a very simple motofastboot script and evolved into the current product over many weeks. But I can't change the thread title so that's what we have.

What steps do you think I should take when the ota come out? Like accept the update first then reset or reset then update?

I know how I'd do it but I don't know if you'd be comfortable doing it my way. I would manually download the update (verifying the md5 hash of course) once it starts going out ota. Throw it on the sdcard-ext. Then I'd boot into recovery, flash the update, and do a fdr before rebooting. Very clean way to go. Set up the phone, then reinstall your apps once it boots up.

What do you recommend sense I am stock?

I thought that was my recommendation. LOL. I mean it really doesn't matter. You can wait and take the OTA and then FDR or you can do what I recommended and install the update manually and FDR after it's finished. Either way will work. I'm about to FDR my phone shortly.

Now I play a few games on my phone. Will I have to start them all over??

The purpose of this reply for me is to ask Samuri that he is sure(within reason-I know nothing is absolute), that we will be able to get back on the "path" once the OTA comes out if I were to do the 242 leak?

I think that is what I am hearing and I have pretty much decided to take the plunge. Just like to hear it in a yes or no format. I am running 232 now.

I can't guarantee anything. Hence the numerous warnings I've given on this topic. That being said, I've managed to install every update after 229 that's come out without any issues whatsoever. Matt's method for creating a boot img and flashing it with system/preinstall/webtop from 905 works very well for us to move from one update to another. The likelihood is that with 242 we're *PROBABLY* (not guaranteed!) looking at version that will become the OTA update. If not, then we'll get a new leak and we'll push it just like we've done going from 235->238->242. The HoB automates this to the point of ridiculousness. WORSE case scenario is that something happens where we can't move to a new update and we're stuck on 242 until a new FXZ is leaked. That usually happens a few weeks after OTA. To my knowledge, there has never been a phone stuck off the OTA path once the FXZ for the new update is released. Hell, my own experience going off the reservation with 5.7.893 shows that it's quite possible to get yourself back on the OTA path even if you've soft bricked the thing. I've built into the HoB a method for essentially FXZ'ing back to the version you're on so that if you brick 242, for example, as long as that update zip remains on your SDCARD-EXT, I can recover it for you. We've done so numerous times for various soft brick scenarios.

Short version...I can't promise or guarantee ANYTHING. However, I'm on 242 and am not worried about getting to the OTA. Take that for whatever it means to you. But UNDERSTAND the risks involved before jumping. No FXZ to 905 puts us in a risky position. And I don't believe I've overstated that risk IMO. My advice, as always, is to make an INFORMED and EDUCATED decision.

A couple other things. First, I found the bug that causes the extract recovery option to show up on the menu after rooting. I was correct on that and was a stupid mistake. It doesn't affect anything and is just a cosmetic issue with a menu item showing up when it shouldn't.

Second, I've done my FDR for 242. I just restored my apps and will be setting everything up again. Fun times! Once that's done I shall be taking another nandroid.

Holy smokes. I like this version of ICS! I have the Motorola extended battery. I talked for 24 minutes with wifi, GPS, and bluetooth on and when I hung up the phone my battery still shows 100% even though I have a 1% widget! Earlier I talked for 42 minutes and with everything on my battery only went down to 97%. Plus my phone is one of those lucky ones that goes to 1.2Ghz.

This is amazing stuff!

You gave me the answer I wanted. I like to know what I am doing, and your answer was what I needed.

Thanks for taking the time to do that.
