Leak .242?

I've never seen a soak test not get "leaked". And invariably someone leaks the soak build, as well. Once that happens, we compare it to the leak we already have, verify they're the same, and for me, not a damn thing changes. All I care about at this point is getting the FXZ which won't happen right away. Then the rom devs can upgrade to 242 and start working on 242 based roms. But seriously, after 8 freaking builds, one has to think we're already looking at the ota build.

My only fear...and it could be completely unfounded, is the leaks were easily pulled from cheesecake for a reason..besides free testing..and somehow it will impossible to get a FXZ solution for those who went past .232 and/ or some sort of timer to render those builds useless. They are official signed by Moto builds but........
As I said, could be completely unfounded and I have no real idea exactly what goes into compiling a FXZ or ROM...but it wouldn't be completely impossible...would it?

I think Sam is talking about an fxz so developers can start making .242 based roms instead of the current .232 based ones.

They said "recently" that the bionic would be released less than a month out, and it took another eight months. Same has been going on with the ICS release.

Until the word is "soak test starting now", you've got nothing. "They" can and have said everything from tomorrow til when the sun goes cool since day one. Unless something is actually happening, it is just speculation, no matter who says it at this point.

Well don't buy another Motorola phone if your going to doubt them talk down about then..

If .242 is ota you won't need an fxz you can just use hob to get you to .242 and your back on upgrade path.

..and with that I have showed my complete ignorance of things! :hail: Hahahaha
I'm still too much of a chicken to make the leap, so I'll just admire from afar!

Oh good Lord. Let the insane irrational conspiracy theories flourish now, apparently. :icon_rolleyes: Where to even begin with this....

"The leaks were easily pulled from cheesecake for a reason"....um, seriously? Please learn more about cheesecake, what it is, and why "leaks are easily pulled from it". Motorola calls it stealing, so, if your theory is that they somehow put these out there for us "unsuspecting users to test for them" you are WAYYYYYYYYY off base.

Not getting an FXZ for those that went beyond 232....um, again, WHAT? Are you even vaguely aware of what an FXZ is? Motorola uses them when someone sends in a phone to reset it to factory defaults. They are posted to a different internal motorola server than the leaks are on. We have contacts that are able to access that server and are willing to post the FXZ's for us. That's how I managed to get us a 905 FXZ....by asking the right person to go look and post it for us. Do you even know WHY they upped the security on ALL the ICS builds on ALL the moto VZW phones? Here's a hint..... qe 0/0, 0/1, 1/1...

Let's not get carried away with nonsense conspiracy theories....

We NEED an FXZ for the OTA. The method I use to unbrick us is nice and all, but, rom developers won't be willing to develop roms without a safety net...and that is a FULL FXZ. My method is called a "mini-fxz" for a reason....it gets you back to a point where you can apply the update again which in essence has the same end result, but, is NOT the same thing. *I* want the full FXZ so I can update the components installer for the HoB and allow everyone to be able to do a clean FXZ as necessary.

I meant nothing by my incoherent babbling..but you are right,I don't have a full grasp on certain aspects, and am slowly learning but I do understand the security root check (qe 0/0, 0/1, 1/1) I had it showing on .232 for the short time I was running it but knowing that it might be in a place that can't be gotten to in order to zero it out does leave the questioning of what else could be lurking in those areas.
Not a conspiracy theory, more like a poorly written question I guess.

Questions are fine. The reason I get slightly annoyed is that people are going to read what you wrote and then spread it like wildfire as potential fact. "Oh, I read that 232+ users won't get an FXZ!" ETC. I've already had it happen to myself when discussing the POSSIBILITY that the then expected 240 build *MIGHT* not be rootable. I and another rombot member were chatting about potential ways to deal with it IF it turned out to be the case. A few days later a very prominent member of our community was posting on his twitter account "240 is unrootable." So we have to be careful on what we say and how we say it. Phrasing it as "is this possible?" would be good. :) So the answers are: No, we'll get an FXZ, no there isn't some kind of time limit built in as these leaks are potential OTA updates, and the reason they added the security is to disallow fxz'ing back to GB (on any moto vzw phone) and resetting the root counter.

I fully understand why you became annoyed and apologize for any aggravations my "question" brought you.
I've said it before, you know a hell of a lot more about these files than I do! :)

Only cause I've listened to more knowledgeable people than myself and learned as much as I possibly can. I still do. LOTS of things I don't know and need to learn. That's why I try to pass on what little I do know to others as others have passed on their knowledge to me. That's what the HoB is all about.

All we have for facts....I have 242 installed. It rocks. No new leak has shown up since it was created on 8/30 and leaked a day later. Moto has said their intention is to release OTA before the end of the month. Moto has had the snot kicked out of them by google (look guys, firing of the CEO is a pretty big acknowledgement that things weren't working at moto) to get stuff done. With google kicking them in the @$$ constantly now, I suspect things are going to change. Remember that shakeup happened in the middle of our ICS release. And VZW was a thorn in their side rejecting 232 because you could FXZ back to GB and wipe out the root counter. Then 235 had bugs. 238 had bugs. REJECTED, REJECTED....finally moto said enough, built a new 239 engineering build, got that accepted, and has now built a release build from it. That's all we know.
