Manually Update to 2.0.1

Okay nothing auto rtates unless I slide out the keyboard? Is this happening to everybody? Is this part of the update? Because if so... its kinda dumb.

This is normal for the standard operating system. You need to use one of the home replacements like pandahome, home++, openhome, etc. for this to work without sliding the keyboard out.

That's only true if he is talking about his homepage. Most apps should automatically go into landscape when you turn your phone on its side. Try a battery pull and see if that fixes things.

Two things.

1. Got Handcent to display pictures again. Didn't have Facebook logged in....

2. I doubt the manual update is any different than the OTA update. If using the same logic as the questioner, the earlier OTA updates will be different than the "newer" version being released on the 11th, thus causing them to update again. Which I doubt, because that would be a huge hassle on VW. You need to remember how updates work, as stated before, the update checks to see if the new version is there, which it will not because of the update. With the lack of the new files, it prompts for the update.

Never mind... I guess the update reset my orientation setting to never rotae automatically... I just had to simply check that off. Thanks!

Not true. Browser will rotate under the default system. Maybe more - need to check. But you should not have to pullout keyboard with the OEM setup for auto rotation.

has anyone tried this? does it really work?
I just did it (Wednesday evening) and it seems to have worked just great! It does seem to respond faster too! I might mention that it took more than 3-4 minutes for the reboot to finish -- more like 5-6 minutes. I was getting a little worried!

Update went fine and seems fast! I am a little disapointed as I still cannot use the voice dialer, cannot move old email to folders and I must pull the keyboard out when I rotate the phone to see my default screen in landscape. I was hoping at least one my issues would be fixed in the update!

OK I downloaded the update. I have the docking station and now the display wont give me the temperature. Anyone else having this problem?

This is confirmed by Motorola Support forums administrator Matt in this post: https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/84490 - it's very possible that the update.zip that people are using to upgrade manually *isn't the final version*.

It may not be the final version, but that would mean all the folks who "have" received the OTA update will be in the same boat.

The manual update was downloaded from Google.... I suppose if one comes out later thats truly the final version, we could manually update that one too.

ok...you realize you really just opened up a bag of worms! :icon_ devil:
Because no one can verify the contents of the manual update, it's not clear if the software load is the same as what we are officially pushing. Changes are often made at the last minute so you may be getting a load that's not final.
Now the question is...... if the manual update we got our hands on is truly not the final "final' version.. will the OTA update recognize that we do not have the latest and still go into action or will it see that we are close enough that it will think we are already there?

Next question of course...... I would think we could get our hands on the update "final" the same way we got the first one?

Why wouldn't it be the final if they sent it out, and if it isn't, then I'm sure a final version would overwrite it in order to update those who got this early version...

Finally gave in and just updated it manually, thanks for the file and nice write up.

OK lets clear the air here. This is not more then one version. This is the only 2.0.1 you will see. If they changed it the version number would change too. How can I be so certain? Experience. I have done a lot of updates with the Storm. I understand how these things work.

You guys are obviously new to smart phones. Either that or you haven't done updates previously with other phones. I mean no disrespect. Just trust me on this.

I've done firmware updates on my computer stuff.. but your right for me... I'm totally new to smartphones.

It would make sense that they would most certainly have to add another number "like 2.0.2" or similar and then it "should" see that the version we have is different and want to update should that OTA be released.

But since they've already started the OTA process, I can't see them switching horses midstream...I think we have what we have until another global release happens.
