MattyP's .215 Leak Classroom

Thanks electricman! I am pretty excited about it. I hope I am able to do as well as the others that I admire so well on DF.

Yeah, that's a HUGE deal, but it wasn't really my place to announce. I felt it best to leave it up to either the person who promoted her, or to Tis herself, to take the pleasure in. But since you've broken the ice...

Yay for TIS!!! One of our two newest staff members - the other is Ovelayer, also well deserving of the title and the recognition.

I don't know the protocol for these things yet, FoxKat, lol! I'm still getting used to the idea.

Does anybody else turn off their background data? Seems since I've updated to the leak the background data restriction isn't working for me, im still getting updates from play store, facebook notifications, email syncing...the whole 9 yards. I was even able to access the play store while it was turned off.

Congrats FoxKat... WoooHooo! A true testament to all you've done for others. And to think of all the "likes" that go undone and there are so many. I am a perfect example of this... because I almost always visited DF through the android app, for months I had no idea that there was that capability. Then someone mentioned "liking" a post. "Huh, what, what are you talking about... giving likes?" That is when I first discovered this worth while feature. To think of the times I missed the opportunity to say "thank you" or "that really helped a lot" or "great information" or even "you made me laugh" just by giving a simple "like" because I was not aware of the possibility... It's possible, FoxKat, that your like total would really be two fold.

Way to go! Thank you for all you do!

Hopefully "Like" will be coming to the app soon. They've said it will be the next upgrade. I hope so!

Tis, you're one of those people who is on my list of "most awesome." I'm not sure if "Rescue Squad" is something new on DF or what, but I can only say the title fits you. You're one of those people who's always there with an answer and a kind word. View attachment 53747

Oh my, SallyC... I am literally blushing. Thank you so much! And funny thing because I think the same exact thing about you! You have no idea how much your inofrmation and references have helped me. So much that I have to visit anywhere you posted because I know I am going to learn something! This forum is filled with the absolute best of the best!

Yes, I turn my background data off except to toggle it on with a toggle switch once or twice a day. Background data off only prevents various apps from constantly syncing in the background, which saves battery and data usage... but it will not prevent you from being able to go on the internet, your email, FB, or any of the apps that need data to work. Basically, when you are opening those apps, you are opening them in the "foreground" not the "background." The only time opening those apps should not connect you properly is if you have 3g/4g and wifi off... and possibly if you have set a data limit that you are about to exceed (but I am not sure if setting a data limit will prevent you from from doing foreground activities or not).

Well i know the purpose of background data and what turning it off does. I'm just saying that it doesn't seem to take effect all of the time. For example, when i have bg data turned off i don't receive notifications from said apps but their are times when i still have it off i still receive notifications. Also, my 3g/4g bar will still be lit up blue instead of white. Never had this problem on GB, it's only been an issue now that I've upgraded. Not sure if it has to do with ICS all together or just the leak.

aha itzjusmee, I can see why you would be confused because that would not make sense as to why sometimes it seems that it is off and other times it seems that it's on when it should be off. I am not sure why exactly that could be and maybe I have the same situation without even realizing it. I only have notifications set for text and calls so I wouldn't know if FB or email was grabbing email or wall posts behind my back. I have sync shut off, under settings --> Accounts & sync, as well as set to manually sync for any apps that require it. But again, I can't even be 100% sure if it completely disables background data-sync or I just think it does.

Okay, good! Haha. As long as i don't sound like a crazy person. I'm pretty fluent when it comes to computers, although this is my first smart phone as with any piece of new technology i acquire and before doing anything drastic i make sure to read until my eyes bleed and cover all bases. I'm also thinking this may have a bit to do with the battery issue as of the ICS update. Seems there may be a bug in the bg data restriction. Interesting.

Geez, don't take it personally, J. Those who your team has helped know you all too well! :biggrin: If we can help your team to gain the recognition it deserves, we will. I'll say one thing for sure...Tis will bring attention to the team! :biggrin:

I'm not totally sure the battery issue with the GB update is really a "bug" but perhaps just that the new OS needs to be re-trained to know what the actual battery capacity is. I've pushed long and hard for people to know about meter training and its benefits, and there are a plethora of members here who can attest that what my recommendations are regarding training the meter have been THE difference between poor performance of batteries (10 hours with the MAXX), to instead stellar performance (24-30+ hours).

To show an example, see my screen shots below;

As you can see by the second to last chart, I am averaging 50% per day (53.86%). That's not too shabby. I am able to maintain this average because I have maintained a routine of training the meter every 2-3 months as my usage dictates.

I've done the foxkat to my battery as instructed and it didn't seem to make much of a difference, I'm still lucky to get 12 hours on my battery with moderate to heavy use. Which don't get me wrong 12 hours isn't exactly horrible as compared to people having to charge their phones twice a day...but still I would like to have that comfort back that if i forget to charge my phone i can still get another day out of my phone.
