MattyP's .215 Leak Classroom

I was hesitant to root and get into roms myself. Rooting is extremely easy with matts utility 1.8, 1.81 or 1.82. I've done it 3 times now and there is little risk. If you are interested in flashing roms, you will want to install safestrap from that utility. If you have questions feel free to message me

Thanks..will give it more thought..and ask for help to be sure. Lol

Rooting is easy... its what you do after rooting is key... you can freeze bloat apps, get free hotspot tethering, have access to the entire system, and yes, you can flash roms too. I have never fooled around with roms, I just like having full access to my phone since I paid all that money for it. :-)

215 leak install issue

I keep getting an error 7 when trying to install the 215 leak. I am on 211.. Used voodoo to temp unroll..booted into, stock recovery and found the update file (blur 211) and install gets aborted. I even defrosted all the apps with tiny...what am I missing?

Are you on a custom rom? Status 7 error is usually because you're on a custom rom.

I understand the concept of ROOT however I really don't understand the concept of ROMs. So my question is this, if I do ROOT my phone will I need to do something about obtaining a ROM or will a ROM already be there after I ROOT phone. As you can see I'm very confused. Also what is the benefit of changing the ROM, I hear a lot about custom ROMs what are thebenefits. Thx!

You do not have to install custom roms. Rooting simply gives you full control over your phone. Custom roms are basically a new operating system. Some are based on stock, some are very different. I happen to be running a jelly bean (android 4.1) rom which is smoother and faster than stock and more customizable, but aldo has some bugs. Roms can be fun and useful. They offer everything from more customization features to overclocking. But it can be confusing getting into them as well. I would suggest rooting first, and then researching roms before jumping in

No you won't "lose" anything on your phone by rooting. You will gain full control of your phone as Josh said. He also gave good advice, hold off on the roms and research it completely before doing it. Learn first do later is the best way to do it. :)

Guys, thanks for the help. I upgraded to .215 and it works like a charm. Many thanks. Because I am a novice with cellular functions, I am still timid and have a few questions:
1. Settings/Apps now reveals Internal Storage/MNT/SDCard and another SDCard//MNT/SdCard-Ext.
I have the stock 8gb on board and added a 30gb card. The BLUR utility for .215 was added my user installed 30gb card.

2. I am thinking of rooting, and have read all that was forwarded by mattyP and JoshxRroid, but I am a bit confused as to whether or not to select Safestrap or Bootstrap. I read the differences, but as a novice I am still unsure of which I should select because MattyP utility states: From this utility, install bootstrap or safestrap BUT DO NOT INSTALL BOTH. If you plan to install a rom, install safestrap. Your phone will not reboot for this step.

3. If I select bootstrap, I can't add ROMS - Safestrap allows me to add Roms. So, if I start with Bootstrap, can i ever switch to Safestrap if and when I feel more comfortable with using all these goodies.

Again, your help is sooooooooooo appreciated! Thanks, MattP, and Joshxdroid.

If you think roms might be something you would be interested in the future, just go ahead and install safestrap. Just because you have that recovery installed doesn't mean you have to install a rom. I've never used bootstrap, so I don't know what the advantages are. Safestrap basically gives you two slots one for stock (safe side disabled) and one for roms (safe side enabled) you can still make a backup from the non safe stock side as well as perform wipes ect. If you don't want to do roms yet just don't enable safe side
