MattyP's .215 Leak Classroom

JB accidentally pushed out? Not to me...

Hey Mis Tis, hope you had a fine Christmas! Have you flashed back to .211 and tried the latest JB that I hear was accidentally pushed out? Just wondering.. I am still waiting for the official word that all is clear before I do anything.

Who was JB accidentally pushed out to and how do I get on that list? It did not come in on my Razr Maxx, which is back to battery meltdown land just a few weeks after being replaced because its battery was really trying to melt even with the .215 leak, which worked great for a while. I guess I will have to do a FDR or three tomorrow and then do the .215 leak. I was hoping to wait for an update instead, but that may not be in the cards. From whom will official word come from and any guesses on when? Thanks.

Hi GotnFX. Thank you! Hope your Christmas was wonderful also. I can only answer half your questions (but Matty's got you covered on the rest). Yes, I have flashed back to .211 many times and is a breeze but haven't done the leak yet. My son has inherited my Maxx (he's one happy young man) and I will probably wait for the official OTA JB before I install JB (only because I can't get my hands on the phone enough to do both).

215 leak and JB

Hi 'Tis Merry Christmas!

Boy! Was I surprised to learn that JB was "somehow" released. Was wondering if I need to do anything special because I previously installed .215 leak on my Droid Razr. Do u think I should wait for official update? If so, do I need to prep my phone and remove the .215 leak? If so, can u advise wehere instructions for .215 are available (if necessary). Many thanks, as always.

Hi folks!
Read all the prior posts and it seems that .215 devices need to go back to .211

Guess I'm a bit of a chicken......LOL Hope all enjoyed a great Xmas!

Oh gee, helron... thanks for your vode of confidence, lol! I know what you mean though... I'm a break it down, give me the steps in small doses and I should succeed so I write my posts in the same way. MattyP is great with the step by steps too. That is exactly how I first got root on my Maxx.

I am going to wait for the official OTA because I think it is right around the corner. I don't know how many times I went with a leak that was expected to be the OTA, only for the OTA to change. And because I always do an fdr with any os change, it is more work (for me) than just installing the leak or OTA.

The following steps to get back to stock are very easy and fast, so you can do it now and wait for the OTA or go with the leak... or you can wait for the OTA and return to stock, then OTA in one quick swoop.

Going back to stock .211:
*On your pc, download and install Matt's Razr Utility 1.8 or 1.81 or 1.82. You can find 1.82 here:
Droid Razr Utility 1.82 [Windows] For Verizon Droid Razr And Droid Razr Maxx Only - DroidRzr.com
*Extract that utility to its own folder on your computer...you must extract the file on your pc. It will not work from your phone.
*After the utility is extracted, go to the Motorola drivers folder in the utility and make sure you have the latest Motorola drivers installed on your pc.
*make sure your phone is set to usb debugging mode (menu>system setting>developer options).
*Power your phone off. Then power your phone on while holding down your power, the volume up and volume down buttons simultaneously.
*Connect your phone to your computer with the factory supplied usb cable.
*On your phone select AP Fastboot, then in the utility select option 1..."restore phone to stock .211. Do not unplug the usb cable until the utility finishes.
*When completed your phone should reboot to stock .211.
*After running option 1, restart phone to make sure all is fine.

Ok, am I correct in assuming that once I switch over to jelly bean all my roms I'm using now will be rendered useless? I think I'll wait as well

I would think not because, if I understand correctly, MattyP has got root on the JB OS. So, being JB rooted, those roms should still work. But don't quote me on that, lol!

Yes I have root on it, but it's not like any other root exploit I have seen. You actually have to make sure ICS is rooted BEFORE installing the update, and you have to protect root and temp unroot with VooDoo Rootkeeper TWICE, and leave it rooted when you install the update. Yes, it "breaks" root when you install it, but then you go into VooDoo and restore root, then reboot and it's rooted. Kinda odd, but it works. I also have root on my tablet, and it's running Jelly Bean too. I likes my root LOL

And the Hotspot app hack still works ... that was my main concern and that was the FIRST thing I did after getting root on my phone :D

'Tis:

On silly question: If I leave the .215 leak on my phone, and the OTA should be pushed, will I have issues, or will the JB OTA just fail to load? Hesitant to pull the 215 leak because phone is working so well, as is battery. Just a bit weary if I miss chatter about JB OTA. Been away from PC for a while because of Xmas and all that goes with it!
Now getting ready for 2013! Hey! We all made it!

It will just fail to install when it does the checksums and the version checks, and it will give an error message, just like it would fail if you deleted any of the bloatware. :)

What Matty said^^^... if you were to get notice of the available update to JB (although I don't think you will if on .215), you won't be able to install it.

My recommendation would be to keep your phone as it is with .215. When JB is released OTA, follow the steps to go back to stock ICS, then check for updates and install JB.
