It's actually ALOT less complicated then it looks. You should be able to find a few threads dedicated to the hack, and I would imagine someone has made a youtube tutorial by now aswell.
There are some flashables that do the radiocomm edit on xda. Only flashable using bootstrap though. A little teadious if you are using safestrap, but easy enough.
Nobody that can answer or comment on any of the above questions?

The first two have been answered. As for the 3rd one, no there is not a 905 or 906 change log as they are leaks and not official releases.

What have I overlooked? I've also searched the whole forum and XDA, but for the lockscreen question I only found a generic non Droid 3 related post, saying that it often is a part of the SIM unlock itself, so that it cannot be removed. But is that the case for the Droid 3? I cannot comprehend why it shouldn't be possible to remove (even if it was a part of the SIM unlock sequence)..
And as there is no changelog.. Are there things we now know that are different between those versions, as I haven't found any changes yet?

Oh yessir it is one in the same! It was supposed to be released as .905 back in feb..shows how on top of the list the d3 is lololol.
He i tried something yesterday that worked for me and i dunno if it will work for others..
Yesterday i softbricked my d3 playing around with the new supersu..so i did the typical sbf and reinstalled mav 4.0
What i noticed was i lost the ability to wifi teather,because supersu and android-wifi-teather are not compatible yet.
I racked my brain and beat my wife i just couldnt understand i did everything the way i have allways done..or did i.
The solution was i had never tried the wifi teather until after i installed liberty 2.0, yes i said liberty 2.0
So i sbf'd again and installed liberty 2.0..suddenly....happily...i had wifi teather back..
So i sbf'd again and installed mav 4.0 and my wifi teather continued to work like it allways has..
Soo...something inside of liberty makes the wifi teather work and even last through sbfin..
Hopefully this is not just a trick that works for me and can help others and maybe something to look at for future builds..

I'm hoping a SBF will be available soon
Ditto here..having mav with just the sys files makes my d3 run better can't wait to try the full update
But I wont until a full sbf is released..so until then ill take what mav offers lol

If I flash MavRom 4.0 over my safe system, will I still be able to sbf back to stock?

Once you run mavrom you won't wanna go back to stock....ever trill
