I think the evidence is pretty clear that while there may be some teething problems with the app, the bulk of issues have to do with signal strength and various other issues that are not associated with the application itself.

have you been reading this thread? people have been experiencing problems with full 3G signal, including myself. most of the issues in fact are from people who are not in bad signal areas at all.

Yesterday I listened for the first time since my update and it was flawless for an hour and a half and then worse than ever after that. I quit then.
I did get this from MLB yesterday though, at least they are aware of it:

Thank you for your inquiry.

We are currently aware that there is an issue with choppy audio feed. We are working as quickly as we can to correct this.

Please continue to check back periodically for any updates.

We do apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you.

Sincerely,
MLB.com Mobile Customer Support Team

Yes, I've been reading the thread. I've also experienced problems when I was driving with 3G connectivity and no problems at all when I'm sitting at my desk with either wifi or 3G connections.

Not sure what planet you're on, but on my part of the earth signals that go from a point in Arizona to a satellite and then back down to an AM radio station in Seattle and then back up to a satellite and back down to earth and then through a cell phone network sometimes cut out. In fact, amazingly enough, even the signal to my local AM radio station from Arizona cuts out and I lose audio on 710 ESPN here in Seattle. And that's using my radio with technology from 1920.

My point is simply that there are so many variables involved in the whole jerry-built "network" that streams audio from some little park in Arizona or Florida to my phone, I'm not in the least surprised that it's not seamless.

Seems to me this is one of those "dogs dancing" issues. As my daddy used to say, "When dogs dance you don't ask how well they do it; it's amazing they do it at all." Perhaps I'm more tolerant than others because (a) I work in the software industry and know how many variables there are in terms of making software work and (b) I remember being amazed that I could sit in my junior high classroom and hear Bill Mazeroski hit a series winning home run in the 1960 World Series over my remarkable transistor radio.

Perhaps you are a bit more tolerant.

I don't think it's crazy expectations to think something will work as advertised. With your logic they A) shouldn't be acknowledging the issue or if they do they should just issue a statement telling people how lucky they are the technology works at all and B) they shouldn't be working on a fix for the issue and telling people they understand it's a problem.

Everyone should just lower their expectations and settle for lesser results.

I have been having quite a few problems myself since I purchased this app. I email them yesterday and this was the response I got:

Customer (David)- 03/10/2010 03:42 PM
App Version:1.0.2
Android Version:2.0.1
Model:Droid
Carrier:verizon

I am having major problems keeping a game connected! I just took a trip 20
miles down the road and the feed stopped 5 times, one way. Listening to the
Braves/Mets is almost impossible in the car. I also have had trouble in my
house with the phone lying on the counter, but it is not as bad as in the
car. I have a
strong signal and this is not the first day I have had problems. You really
need to improve the buffer! I didn't expect it to be perfect, but damn! I
hope you improve this mess in the next update or I will be very sorry I gave
you my $15!

Thank you for your inquiry.

The quality of the feed during Spring Training may not be as high as during the season. Many who provide the broadcast either use a remote feed or do not have their full team available to cover Spring Training games.

Regular coverage will begin once the baseball season begins.

We do apologize for any inconvenience.

I could care less about the sound quality (in this case), I would like them to fix the player stopping every other inning. They are clueless and don't try to act like they are not. Another half-tailed effort from the MLB.

Getting away from streaming issues a bit, does it bother anyone that the lineups are all but unreadable? The text in the first column (names & positions) breaks, the column width is too small while the actual numbers have all kinds of space around them. I know it's not a big deal, but for 15 bucks I would expect something a tad more polished.

Their cut and paste answers to questions are beyond insulting and infuriating to a customer. There is no reason we should have better customer service from Joe Blow App maker than we should from MLB and laods of app makers are right here on this board answering questions and fielding ideas.

MLB is really failing hard at this. I'm glad I got my refund. i check here and the marketplace for comments and updates daily and the marketplace has tons of folks complaining as well. All about the same issue despite the couple of people here who think we are expecting too much. They are the MLB, there is not excuse for the poor communication and to make it worse their phone customer service people aren't allowed to answer any questions about the app. Everyone is referred directly to the e-mail where someone replies with a stock answer that never answers the question.

Wow, that's the first time I've heard them acknowledge issues with the audio quality. Like you, I wasn't expecting super high quality for spring training. The audio cut outs on 3g are what is most frustrating. They've been giving a canned response that they are working on it, but won't give any more details when it will be fixed. :icon_rolleyes:

I basically "wasted" the $15 for AT-Bat just to fill in the gaps when I am in the car during some afternoons, but if it doesn't improve, it truly is money wasted. I have MLB.tv Premium (another half -tailed product, but that's another thread!) that is the main source of my baseball. But I only purchased that because it was $99 (half price of Directv EI) after a $20 SI discount. But I have just come to expect a sub-par products from the MLB and have no reason to think that a multi-billion company will ever improve their quality or service no matter how much I complain or bash them online. I create my own misery by even watching basebal l and dealing with these a-holes in the first place..lol
