Motorola Droid Case Reviews

this is so close to what I was looking for but it looks a bit too wide. a velvet pouch that is a bit more form fitting would be great. I checked ebay and so much of their stuff seems to be junk, and from what I've seen, most pictures of pouches have iPhones in them.... wish they would at least take the time to show what the cases look with a Droid, rather than just recycling old iPhone cases.

Greetings,
I'm just getting ready to buy a Droid, and after reading this thread, the Sena Elega looks like the solution for me.

I was wondering if anyone who has the Elega, or any other Sena case could say how much the phone being in the holster obstructs you from hearing the phone ring?

From what I've seen, that seems to be the only upside of waiting for the Sena Droid case/cases. They may have porting for the speaker.

Thanks

The Elega has 2 cutouts at the bottom of the case and I don't have any problems hearing it. Usually have it set around the middle ring setting.

When I get a chance I'll take pictures of the remins of the kit and my phone with the shielding applied (as long as no one criticizes my installation - there are some glaring bubbles on the back part that I didnt care enough to work out.)

As promised - pictures of the kit are posted here:

and pictures of the shielding on my Droid are posted here:

Also, I saw a post from someone (on another thread) saying they had troubles with snap-on cases in combination with the invisible shield.

I'm a volunteer firefighter and constantly find myself outside. I'm really looking for a good case with belt clip that doesn't add a lot of size or complication to the device like making the screen sticky.

I'm planning on grabbing my Droid after my next payday and I really haven't seen what I'm looking for yet as far as a good protective belt clip case.
I am a professional firefighter and I really like my zagg screen protector/body glove case. My Droid felt very fragile prior and now it feels very protected from dropping and scratches. I still don't take it on bad calls...

lets get all the info we can, an informed shopper is a smart shopper

I've seen a lot of feedback on the Sena Elega and the Sena Kutu, but has anyone tried out the Sena Ultraslim? It's the cheapest of the three, probably a lot thinner but I've never touched any of them so I wouldn't actually know.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't fit. Especially after you use it a bit, it will form like a glove. I used Lexol leather conditioner on the outside of mine and it really made it nice.

I bought the leather pouch, love the belt clip its metal not like the normal plastic clips, and it fits in the pouch so nice. I put in one corner first, and with the expandable sides, l just slide the other in, kinda like locks in. No slipping or sliding around. The metal clip is coated, and it rotates in a 360. I paid 19.99 at the verizon store. Worth every penny.

I am most excited about the Amzer Hybrid Silicone Skin Jelly Case. From what I can tell, it offers the shock absorption of silicone, but with the fitment of a solid plastic clip case.

Fommy.com has a video of this technology as applied to the Motorola Cliq: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sEC4XgUh0I (See my note about Fommy.com in the post above.)

It looks like Amzer won't be shipping this solution for Droid until December though. :(

That's exactly what I'm looking for.

Droid suede pouch

I just received my black ultrasuede pouch from Waterfield Designs. Plain black, fits perfectly, takes up no space at all. Easy to get the phone in and out. Customer service is terrific! And, at $9, it's really a bargain! Check it out here:

I ordered this case Edge with Red Stitch Black Vertical pouch

Looks great...on the internet...

It is very stiff, which I could overlook, but it is held closed by two magnets, which are powerful enough & positioned just right to activate home/car mode. I have removed the magnets and will be replacing them with velcro until I find a case that is of a better quality.

Since the sizes are somewhat similar with the iPhone, I tried out a Cellet Bergam case,

purchased off of e-bay. It seems to work fairly well on a Moto Droid, but a few notes:

  1. Pretty tight - even after stretching elastic out by hand
  2. The top of the Droid extends above the case about 3mm (no protection, but this must be by design, as the iPhone and the Droid are only about 1mm diffo in length)
  3. Screen is fully protected, as is the bottom, but the sides not as much (there's just a stretchy fabric, leather part forms a U around the phone, no sides)

I did not try the clip, but I know from other Cellets I had, that it works fine, is actually a pretty good clip. I want to use mine without the clip, in a pocket of my pants. It might scratch up a belt a bit, if it's soft enough leather. Doesn't rotate, as far as I can tell, so only vertical, if you go that way. I am still debating the lack of top protection, when I have things in a pocket that's not so important, and the leather across the back looks to be very protective. Still, and probably this is in part because the Droid is thicker, the case is fairly tight on the phone.

OK, a bit of a tertiary update on the case. In between trying out other cases, I used this one a couple of days, to see if it might wear in a bit. It has, but only slightly, so the phone still sticks out of the top by 5mm or so, granted this case was made for an iPhone and a Droid is larger, but an iPhone must hang out a bit. But one more observation is that other than that, the protection is above average for a leather case. It kind of looks like they've sewn in a padding layer, maybe some sort of thin cellular foam or something, and have some sort of hard reinforcing, probably for protection. That may be why the thing hasn't expanded out to fit, things are still pretty snug, but protection is a good thing, and until the real Droid-specific cases start to come out, this may be what we have to live with.

Ultra-case?

I notice that when I'm looking at Droidforums.net, that the ads at the top show a link to Ultra-case.com:

Ultra Case - Be Different Your iPhone 3G / 3GS Case

Seems kind of odd to me, but I guess the advertising isn't all that Droid specific. There are some nice cases there, but nothing yet that I could find for the Droid. That's one advantage of the Apple infrastructure, there's almost an infinite selection of cases and accessories, I guess it will just take time for the Moto Droid/Milestone, hopefully sales will be good enough that we'll see something equivalent eventually. Droids are certainly popping up, I'll be walking down the hall at work, hear "Droid!", think I've gotten some e-Mail or something, only to realize it was down the hall or in an office, not mine (note to self, find some way to change "Droid!" eventually). Moto did a reasonably good job of having accessories for the release, I would have liked a soft-pouch thrown in the box myself, but the Verizon store basically is out of stock now on cases, and so at least locally, demand exceeds supply at the moment. I love the phone, by the way, it has some quirks, but what it does, it does extremely well. Now if some decent cases would just become available...

I bought this yesterday, and am returning it today. I do not like it at all.

My primary complaint with it is that the clip is HUGE. It extends vertically past the belt line by at least an inch and jabs into my side. It was bothering me all night long. That was day one; there won't be a day two.

The other downside to this is that it is ugly. My wife says it looks like a retro cell phone from '95...
