Motorola Droid Case Reviews

I also got my Sena Droid ULTRA SLIM leather case today.
So to now complain that it's "very thin and flimsy" seems a little unfair.

I find the case to be made of very fine quality leather, and yes, it IS thin. It adds very little to a naked Droid, when you put this case on and then stick it in your pocket.

It also has soft felt like material on the inside, to protect the Droid.

If my Droid gets scuffed up, or scratched up, because I absentlmindedly put my Droid in my pocket with keys, or with coins, or whatever, I'm out of luck. If I drop my Droid, and it breaks, I have insurance, and I'll get a new device. I'm looking for something to simply protect the finish of the device while it's being stored, while remaining as thin and light as possible. I understand that that is NOT what everyone is looking for.

If you're looking for something that will protect your Droid from a high, hard fall, this probably is NOT the case for you. If, on the other hand, you like using your Droid naked, but do want to put it in an elegant case, for when it's stored in your pocket and/or purse, without adding bulk, this is an excellent choice.

And this differs from my review in what respect? You agree that the case is thin. You agree that it is good for protection against pocket scratches. You agree that it is not good for protection against collisions and drops. What's the issue?
I was hoping for a little more cushion, in the event it gets dropped in-case. My Blackberry's leather sleeve was marginally thicker yet provided excellent drop protection; I'm not confident of my Droid's chances, should it get dropped in this sleeve.
The sleeve will provide excellent in-pocket (or in-purse, in-backpack, etc.) protection. If that's all you want, then go for this case. If you want more, then look for something thicker.
PS - pictures are upcoming, as requested.

I just got the Body Glove case for my droid and i like it alot however it is such a pain to take on and off, so if you have the car mount or multimedia station it's a mission to pop the body glove off the phone for you to use the other mounts. Anyone else experiencing that?

100%!

I really liked my BG case for the Blackberry, I like a case with a clip as these phones are a little big to be in your pocket. Almost everything about the case is quality, nice inner lining, great clip which can double as a "stand" for your droid, looks pretty decent.

However, although the case fits great, it fits a little too great, its frickin impossible to remove! This was extremely annoying when I first got my Droid because it kept crashing. Since a hard reset and 2.01, it crashes maybe once every 3-4 days, but I have stopped using the BG case for that reason.

I don't know that your Droid should be crashing all that often. I've had mine for a month and it hasn't crashed once. I'd get that checked out.

Back on topic though, I just picked up the BG case last night. I went into VZW to get the shell/holster combo and they said they did not have any but they could order it. He showed me the BG and I said I wasn't really interested in it since I use the physical keyboard often.

The rep told me that this is from a new shipment and the old BG cases were sent back because of problems. I wasn't sure if he was just trying to sell me a case but I bought it anyway. I have been lucky so far with not dropping the case but I didn't want my luck to run out. I do prefer it naked but I don't really want to take chances. The rep said the old ones were sent back because they were not the right fit and were causing problems and this new shipment is the improved design.

It fits very well, still a real project to take off though. The keyboard slides pretty smoothly though, so the fit may be better than the original models but I did not have it so I can not compare.

I have the Body Glove on mine. I'm really rough on phones so I thought I better try to protect this one. My case comes off without too much problem, you just need to unhook one tab at a time. The keyboard is not affected by the case in any way at all. The BG does add some "bulk" to the phone but if you are inclined to being rough on phones I think that it will give you some good protection.

Here are a few snapshots of the "BLACK Hard Rubber Case for Motorola Droid A855" I bought on ebay a week ago. I've never held a Seidio Innocase in my hands, but it seems to have a lot of the same features: slim form factor, soft touch rubberized coating, and no movement on phone.

The fit seems to be excellent, and while the coating is comfortable, it's not as grippy as something like the body glove case. That's good for me as I often carry my phone in my pocket and it doesn't drag my pocket completely out, though it's not as slick as a naked Droid.

I'd have to say it looks identical to the Amzer case, though without the logo. It was $6 shipped when I bought it, but it now seems to be $10. Still worth it, IMO. I don't want a logo on my case!

I also purchased the same type of case but without the rubbery texture.. Def worth the money and it doesnt cripple the phone in any way..

Yeah I know. Not sure if I can be bothered with the hassle of returning the Droid and setting it up again from scratch though.

where did you get it without the rubbery texture?

after shipping the Amzer is $23 so not sure I want to go with that one, would like to see a review.

Here's a few pics of my Sena UltraSlim Droid case that arrived the other day, got it in android green. ;)

So far I'm really diggin this case. IMHO because of the seam placement it offers moderate drop protection for what it is. The Sena ultraslim also improves pocketability because of the smooth texture of the leather.

BTW sorry the pics are a bit grainy I didn't notice I had my camera set to ISO 1600 until after taking them. :(

I bought the snap-on silicone gel cover from the Verizon store for $16.99.

Pros:
- Nice textured grip. I don't worry about the phone slipping around in my hands.
- Thick, durable material. I toss it in my bag without flinching.
- Covers side buttons, leaves power button and ports uncovered.

Cons:
- A bit bulky, not sexy and streamlined like the Droid is supposed to be. ;)
- Rubberized texture makes it difficult to slip in and out of pockets, and it inevitably collects some lint/dust everyday.

Other points:
- Blocks the very top of the keyboard, but I rarely use this feature so it's no problem for me.
- Edge of cover hangs over microphone, although I haven't had anyone mention they've had trouble hearing me.
- Partially covers speaker on the back.

Verdict: I do like this sturdy cover, but I might look for something thinner and smoother eventually.

Looks nice! The green is pretty smooth too... In terms of function, how do you like it? Do you feel like it is cumbersome to pull out while the phone is ringing, or when you want to retrieve some info quickly?

Thanks! Obviously its an extra step to have to remove the phone from the case to use it as opposed to naked or shell type case but it doesn't bother me much, it is very easy and quick to take out. Aside from removing the phone to use it what I find most cumbersome is to figure out what to do with it when on the move while handling the phone, in those situations I just stick it back in my pocket but its something to think about compared to shell or clip on style cases. Overall though the pro of the intimacy when handling the naked droid without worrying about it when stowed away outweighs the cons for me when compared to other solutions.

probably beating a dead horse but... the 2 piece hard case is rather annoying... especially so if you use the car mount/multimedia dock station. constantly having to remove the back piece to attach it to the mount. did i mention it makes the keyboard even more congested on the top? it adds protection, but it also diminishes functionality. they should make a hard case that can attach/detach directly to the car mount ;)

In follow-up, I uploaded some pictures of the case, off of e-Bay, apologies ahead of time for the picture quality (and the dust :) ), obviously not a professional photographer, but anyway, you can get some idea for the fit and finish.

These are on Picassa, hopefully I was able to get the settings right so people can see them:

If you look closely, you can see that the rubber coating material, which is flat black, is spayed onto the plastic. The unit ends up looking kind of a stealth type black, not an unpleasing effect. On my unit, here and there they did not get the edges fully covered, but you have to be pretty close to see it. The cutouts for the components clear fine. All the corners are pretty well protected, but the screen area remains open, bottom shiny bits, etc. Case is pretty light, so not much added weight. I have noticed that some of the other hard cases are lower in the back/menu/home/search button area, I suppose so that they're easier to reach, but I have to say the ridge down there can make it easier to find the buttons, and probably is a bit more protective, so hard to say what's the best approach.

That looks like the case I just received today. Mine is a "Luxmo" (Luxury Mobile) brand.

Maybe I'm too picky but the tabs that hold each of the halves on the phone are too bulky for me. I fear that in time they will scratch the keyboard when sliding the phone open. In fact, on the back of the screen half on my phone it already has rubbed on the factory protective film (haven't bothered to remove it yet...now I'm glad). I may try sanding down the tabs but if that doesn't work I paid less than $5 for it so I won't be too bummed. :)

Waterfield Suede Jacket

Can anyone who has the Waterfield suede jacket post some pictures of it? I am considering getting it because it will work well for carrying it in my pocket and possibly for a makeshift wallet (with the pocket on the case). Thanks.

I just ordered one so I'll post up when I get it.

I have a hard case now for protection but everytime I take off the case, I just LOVE in feel of it nekkid. I love how my finger glides off the edge of the screen and how responsive it is on the edges of the screen. I'm switching over the the pouch case to see how it goes. I kept my regular PDA in a pouch for years and it doesn't even have a scratch so I'm hoping for the best.
