Motorola Droid Case Reviews

Body Glove works for me

I know I'm way late to this party, but here's my take on the Body Glove. I'm a truck driver and my phone has the opportunity for disaster every day. I got the BG because it looked like the toughest cover available (at the Verizon store anyway). I put a screen saver on too.

Unfortunately, the Verizon 'expert' installed the top part of the case 180° off. I found it next to impossible to use the slide-out keyboard. At the time, I didn't know the case was on wrong, so I just gave up on the keyboard and learned to love the virtual one(s). Yesterday I was taking the battery out to get to the SD chip and decided to take the whole case off both sides of the phone. No easy task, as noted earlier in this thread. To my surprise, I discovered that Body Glove actually designed the top cover so you can use the keyboard. Duh. But now it's too late. I'm on love with the virtual keyboard.

I mount my phone to the windshield with a universal mount (from eBay, of course) that mounts anything from GPS's to cell phones to video cameras, and the Body Glove doesn't cause any problems. I like it. Sometimes it's a bit tough to 'slide' it into my shirt pocket (because of the rubber-like composition) but I can live with it. My Droid doesn't have the sleek look it did when it came out of the box, but hey....

Great case if no std belt clip needed/wanted

Went to Best Buy and tried my Moto Droid phone in all kinds of cases (phone, GPS, camera). The best fit and protection I found was in a SONY soft carry case for camera (believe it was for the Cybershot). It is very soft material on inside, water-repellant vinyl on exterior, two side zippers so you can leave partially open for easy access, and it has a carabiner clip. Almost perfect fit - no unneeded thickness; only downside is that you have to work the zippers a bit to completely enclose (not a problem since I like to leave the zippers open anyway). Does definitely completely close if needed. For those who don't want the extra thickness of a std/exterior belt clip, the carabiner is a nice solution and more flexible for people like me who will use the carabiner to clip to interior of my briefcase.

This forum has been a great help to me. Hope this post helps someone. (Probably avail anywhere where SONY cameras are sold but Best Buy code: 9205781 or LCSCSVC/B; $19.99; BTW: I have no tie to Best Buy.

Radio Shack has the Body Glove Horizontal Smartphone Case (Black) Model: 9110601 Catalog #: 17-5113 that fits the Moto Droid:

Body Glove Horizontal Smartphone Case (Black) - RadioShack.com

Pros:
- it fits well, with very minimal up/down slack
- USB port, power/display btton, headphone jack are accessible
- security flap with secure magnetic catch
- felt-like lining
- sturdy leather; sewn seams
- Radio Shacks are everywhere!
- horixontal form factor
- belt clip
- link is for black leather version but I think brown leather is available, too

Cons:
- $24.99 (retail)
- made in China
- be careful to insert Moto Droid with the screen facing out (away from body). Magnetic latch will activate Multimedia Dock mode if the Droid is put in with screen facing belt.

Here are a few snapshots of the "BLACK Hard Rubber Case for Motorola Droid A855" I bought on ebay a week ago. I've never held a Seidio Innocase in my hands, but it seems to have a lot of the same features: slim form factor, soft touch rubberized coating, and no movement on phone.

The fit seems to be excellent, and while the coating is comfortable, it's not as grippy as something like the body glove case. That's good for me as I often carry my phone in my pocket and it doesn't drag my pocket completely out, though it's not as slick as a naked Droid.

I'd have to say it looks identical to the Amzer case, though without the logo. It was $6 shipped when I bought it, but it now seems to be $10. Still worth it, IMO. I don't want a logo on my case!

Ive been looking for a case like this,
Could you post the link of where you bought it.
Thanks in advance

A direct link to the case MB_Droid mentioned with photos is available here: Sony - Soft Carrying Case for Select Sony Digital Cameras - Black - LCS-CSVC/B

All of my case orders have arrived:
- 4 x G1 cases (I actually lost my old G1 case and since these were cheap I acted on a prior recommendation and ordered one for each phone. From having one previously I knew they had more padding for more rough backpacks or purse exposure for that matter). So far these work very well. Will update after a few more days of testing.
- 1 x Clear-Coat Screen Protector. I have not yet applied it but I like their product backing more than Zagg's. I will repeat I bought 3 Zagg protectors and wish I could return all three. The end result is an awful compromise to protect your screen for my taste. I will know after putting the Clear-Coat on the fourth phone if my issue is with the Zagg in particular or this type of screen protector overall
- 2 x Waterfield UltraSuede (1 w/ pocket, 1 w/o pocket). These offer basically no padding protection for dropping your phone, likely akin to what was described for the Sena UltraSlim case, however it is so far what I will be using on my phone. If no one else posts photos by tomorrow, I will get some up.

Recap:
- Zagg: Strongly dislike
- G1 OEM Case: Cheap and does the job with thick sturdy foamy feel and deep seem.
- Clear-Coat: Will put on fourth phone tomorrow
- Waterfield UltraSuede: So far I like these the most. If I have to toss my phone in a toolbox or something hostile I would favor the G1 case, but for pocket or backpack, these UltraSuede cases are great. Also the newly added $2 shipping cost is fair. Shipping two cost $0.81. The extra $1.19 I am happy to have go towards the shipping materials etc... Very reasonable with this new shipping option.

Cheers,

I have the amzer case and the top part that goes over the screen does not stay on! i also bought the seidio case and i love it! however i feel a little drag when i slide it open however i do not use the keyboard much! i love the feel of the seidio!

Because of using the car mount and dock I am looking for a "pouch" type case where the phone slides in and out from the top, if anyone at all has found one please let me know! I searched for about an hour today before I was ready to just go play with my droid.
I made a pouch out of the cloth supplied with my Zeiss scope. Good enough for their optics its good enough for the Droid. Both protects and will clean the prints off it.

Thanks for all the great reviews! Just got my Droid for Christmas, and have been poring over the forums to try and get a consensus feel on the best case out there. (Consensus seems to be there is no best case out there...)

However, after always just habitually buying a case for every new smartphone I've ever owned, I'm finding myself torn on the Droid. One of the biggest selling points for me was the Nav features that Droid offers in conjunction with the car mount. Looking at the way this phone is designed, between the slide out keyboard and the car mount, it just doesn't seem too naturally inclined to work well in a case. It goes against my habitual nature, but I'm finding myself leaning towards using possibly just a screen protector, or <gasp!> leaving my Droid naked. Is this lunacy? I think I noticed 1 post in this thread where somebody mentioned dropping their Droid onto their desktop and the screen cut out... other than that one mention, I haven't seen posts suggesting this phone is any more delicate than any other phone. I wonder how durable this device is on it's own. Hmmm maybe time to go read the fine print on Verizon's phone insurance policies...

I think I decided against cases all together.
Every case I've tried I haven't liked. I'm sure it is the slider design but nothing really has been suitable for me and for the way I use my droid
