Motorola Droid Case Reviews

orGSD, what are the differences between the two Waterfield slip cases? I really like the look of the patterned case but the only one available on the website is the plain black slip case. I have been debating between the Sena ultraslim and this case. Obviously the Sena being twice the price with a discount is a huge factor but the leather looks sooo slick and rich.

Thanks! Obviously its an extra step to have to remove the phone from the case to use it as opposed to naked or shell type case but it doesn't bother me much, it is very easy and quick to take out. Aside from removing the phone to use it what I find most cumbersome is to figure out what to do with it when on the move while handling the phone, in those situations I just stick it back in my pocket but its something to think about compared to shell or clip on style cases. Overall though the pro of the intimacy when handling the naked droid without worrying about it when stowed away outweighs the cons for me when compared to other solutions.

Thanks for posting the pics of the Sena Droid case!

I was wondering. Is there no belt clip for the case? Is it just a bag without a clip?

Has anyone asked Otterbox if they are going to be coming out with a Commuter for the DROID?

I'd give it a month or so before they start selling one. They have hit all the major phones released for alittle now so I don't see why they wouldn't with the droid. It probably hasn't come out yet because they are most likely working on the logistics of it with having a slider.

No problem, there is no belt clip on the ultraslim its just a snug pouch.

I would think the slider is difficult to work with when making a case like the commuter.

It isn't really a "patterned case". The pattern is the material used for the front pocket. So if you get the case with the pocket ($13) it will have that pattern on the front (and a pocket for storing goodies) but if you order the plain one ($9) it won't have a pocket and won't have the pattern.

Jen, if the Verizon rubberized case is blocking any of the keyboard or the keys below the screen , the top piece may be on upside down. There is a cutout at the short end that goes on the top--should align in the center, just above the screen. You'll see that the end that goes under the keys is beveled differently than the top, so that you can easily reach the keys below the screen.

I haven't had mine obscure anything on the phone since I got the top piece on the correct way, although I originally had it on upside down. I use the physical keyboard all the time without any problems.

Another advantage I've found to the rubberized silicone case is that it makes it hard to accidentally knock the Droid off a smooth surface, like a desk or countertop. Or when the dog comes over and sniffs it on the coffee table! Just about had a heart attack the first time she did that before I got the case on, as she pushed it just to the edge before I shrieked LEAVE IT!!:icon_eek:

I made sure to line up the cutouts with the ear speaker on top and the mic on bottom. The side of the case doesn't actually cover any keys of the physical keyboard, my fingers just bump the case when I'm using the top row of keys. I just have to be more deliberate when punching those top keys! Thanks for the tip, though!

Haha, what an obedient dog you have! I love that I can set my phone on my car seat or on the center console without it slip-sliding around while I drive. I've also almost dropped my phone multiple times while trying to text in landscape - it just slides out of my hands! The rubberized grip is definitely useful for me.

I just wish I had remembered how obedient she is so I didn't shriek! :icon_eek: Now that the dog has had a good sniff (we actually have a command of Smell It, meaning she can sniff to heart's delight but not lick, bite or grab the item) and she is used to all the new noises it makes, she ignores it.

I live in terror of dropping the phone. The silicone case does make it more secure in the hand, yes.

Amzer Snap-On case Review

The Amzer Snap-on does have cut-outs for all the phone ports, BUT, they compromise the ability of the plastic case to stay attached to the phone. In other words, if you do drop that Droid, the case is going to fly off on impact. Mine won't even stay on while I'm holding it in my hand!
I wish it would stay on long enough for me to decide if it hampers the functionality of the phone, because if it didn't, I would seriously consider a few well-placed dots of epoxy. Then there would be the sd card inaccessibility....ah, well.
I like it, but I have to send it back.

I realized I forgot to mention the inside liner of the Sena Ultraslim case; its a very nice fuzzy kind of felt that matches the outside color of the case.

here's mine:

Hi, noob here. Been lurking here for a month, just picked up a droid, and bought the seido case based off suggestions here. I got it in Ash Grey.

Overall, I am happy with the case. Very good fit and finish. Nice rubberized and solid feel to it, almost like the material used in Lenovo U series laptops. Very nice, not your normal "hard case". It fits on the phone VERY easily, and really doesn't add much bulk to the phone. There's a cutout around the microphone. It fits around the camera and flash perfectly. It feels VERY nice in your hand, and doesn't feel cheap like the hard case at VZW.

While it does rub on the phone when you slide it, it seems minimal and you can't really feel it. You can just see rub marks on the plastic protector that covers the back side of the phone when you slide it up.

The Ash Grey is a bit darker than the pics on seido's website suggests.

Here's some pics:

So after reading numerous pages in this thread I am getting the consensus that the Seido is the best non-pouch case for the Droid right now.

I see there are similar ones on ebay for a lot cheaper but some are having issues with the front cover staying on.

I originally bought the hard plastic case when I bought my Droid on release day, it was a great case until 2 days ago (almost 2 months of use). The front keeps falling off, but the back is still nice and secure, even though I take the back on and off for charging when necessary.

So is Siedo and Amzer the best ones out there right now?

Waterfield UltraSuede ( Droid Suede Jacket - Droid Sleeve - Droid Case - Milestone Sleeve - Milestone Case - Slim Droid Case - Droid Pouch - Droid Soft Case - Ultrasuede - WaterField Designs Droid Suede Jacket )
Pros:

  • Very soft in and out
  • Optional stretchy mesh pocket
  • Very slim, keeps your device slim
  • Reasonably priced for what you get
  • Protects from keys and miscellaneous pocket or light purse contents
  • Good fit while still allowing easy removal

Cons:

  • Slim, will not protect from drops or other tougher abuse

Conclusion:
This is one case I would highly recommend if a slim sleeve suits your needs. It seems well made, is pleasant on the fingers, phone and eyes. It is kind of like those silky Oakley sleeves but slightly stiffer and thicker. It will keep the shape and does not have a drawstring. Another, perhaps less important to some, factor is that the shop owner listened to feedback complaining about the shipping costs and came up with a reduced cost solution. Also the product is US made for those who care about such things.

I ordered one of these guys and it came in yesterday. I got it in about 3 days from when I ordered it and that was using the cheap $2 shipping. I actually ordered two (one for a friend) and the shipping was still $2. I'm really impressed with the quality of the case. It is definitely thin but still thick enough to protect from scratches, dirt, light dings, etc. In a fall it wouldn't do much if it landed screen down but since the phone is such a beast anyway, they survive falls pretty well and this will keep it unscratched. I like how the whole thing slides into my pocket with no problem and doesn't stick to my pocket either like the BodyGlove and rubber cases.

Overall I'm loving the case so far and highly recommend it if a sleeve is what you want and you don't need anything really tough.

I have posted on the General Discussion board, and have read too many pages in this thread. I am still unsure of the best recomendations for a case that:
- is a horizontal leather pouch
- fits the Droid snugly
- has a secure belt clip
- has a magnet enclosure that doesn't trigger dock function (don't want velcro)

Thanks!

Billyk: I have not used the following case personally but it is a Motorola OEM case designed specifically for this phone. The video review does not show a lot about it, however it does appear to match your criteria with the exception of the closing mechanism. It uses elastic.
Motorola OEM Slide Horizontal Pouch For Motorola - Motorola Droid A855 - Cases - Fommy.com

Another option is the D2 Customizable one off eBay:
D2 Custom-Made Leather case for Motorola Droid A855 - eBay (item 370294299023 end time Dec-21-09 01:57:44 PST)
It offers a few closing options which are neither magnetic nor velcro. They unfortunately have not been able to test the magnet placement to see if it triggers the dock mode and recommended the snaps. They are responsive if you have any questions. Also it appears that you cannot charge it within this case. That being said you can fully customize all other aspects of it.

Cheers,

orGSD
