Motorola Droid Case Reviews

Vashis-Does the PDair aluminum case have to be removed to use the slide out keyboard and how low profile is the belt clip nub? I don't want to use the belt clip. Thanks.

I just don't think I can read through much more of these. Everyone seems to like the pouches! I just want a snap on case that offers shock absorption, slide out keyboard access and no belt clip. Does it exist?? B/c I can't seem to find one.

Cases, Holsters, and Multi Media Dock

Ok, so I have had my Droid for 3 days now. I absolutely LOVE this thing! The night I purchased the phone, I bought the "Shell and Holster Combo" at my local VZW Store. I liked the protection the "Shell" gave, and liked the fact that the display was protected when put into the Holster. However, to remove the phone from the holster was a real pain. I think this was due to the plastic "Shell" and the "Grippie" plastic along the edge. Also, it was a pain to have to remove the back piece of the "Shell" to drop into the Motorola Multi Media Dock (The front piece can stay on the slider). The BIGGEST issue I had was that the majority of the people I talked to while the "Shell" was on the phone, said I sounded very muffled. I found when I removed the "Shell" in it's entirety, I did not get this complaint.

So...I returned it, and got the VZW Holster. The holster is nice. It has a spring loaded release, which makes loading and removing the Droid really simple. It also holds it with the display inward, and the speaker outward. The downfall is that the phone has ZERO protection on the back of it, and when in use!

My remedy...I purchased the Seidio Innocase Holster and Case Combo. It is more expensive than the other options I tried, but by the reviews I have read, it is worth the extra cash. I was very hesitant of buying without seeing it first...but I took the plunge. I hope I like it!

After putting in my two cents, I have a question for the group. I still own the Motorola Multi Media Dock. Has anyone out there attempted to use their Seidio Innocase with the Motorola Dock? I am thinking it will not work...but...it's worth asking! I am trying to avoid spending the extra cash on the Seidio Dock and shipping.

Any feedback will be appreciated!

Thanks!

Hey guys,

I'm new here and was just wondering if anyone had any experience with the following 2 pouches:

PDair Leather Case

Fortte Vertical Pouch

I'm looking for a simple vertical pouch that's not too expensive and with no clip. It doesn't have to lock the phone in with any kind of strap but if it does it should be velcro (what with all the things that magnets could do to the Droid). So if anyone else has any ideas throw them my way. Thanks.

Leather Case for Motorola Milestone A855 – Book Type (Black/Crocodile Pattern) – Official Product Link

Here you go, here is my first review on my new phone that I bought couple of weeks ago.
The phone itself is very sweet, I never owned an Android phone prior to this one, so I had no previous comparison with another Android system, but this thing is crisp, surfing the net is fast, it has done more than enough for me.
Nice huh?

Motorola Milestone
Anyway, back to the leather case itself…
Received it couple of days ago so the case itself has been in service for quite a few days already.
I was hoping to go with a crocodile skin pattern flip type case. The phone fits snuggly into the case itself, the fitting is actually better than I expected. As you can see, from the picture from the link i provided, none of the functional buttons are blocked off at all

Noticed on the side that it has a smaller leather patch to secure the position of the phone, which is good, because it helps with heat dissipation and giving you easy access to the side buttons.

To sum it up, this is a nice leather case, obviously with careful designs, none of the features are covered up by the case itself, and the magnetic clipping does not put the phone in dock mode also. It provides the phone with luxury protections at the same time functionality does not suffer from it.

Thanks for the review, the PDAir cases are interesting, although I'm not sure I would have gone crocodile, the smoother or pebble finishes are more to my liking, ala (same model):

It's kind of funny, actually, I used to buy belt cases for my PDAs and data-phones, kind of evolved over time to actually horizontal (generally more comfortable when sitting, didn't press as much on the leg), although an HTC phone came with a vertical pouch (without belt loop, for pocket use, I think a lot of women use the same for purses), free (something Moto could learn from). I eventually came around to putting the phone in that case and in turn into my pants pocket (LCD face inwards, so that the phone+case take any impacts on the back, less chance of damage, granted on a Droid there's still the camera+Flash to worry about). Just seems to get less jostling and impacts that way. Although the trade-off is that when you're sitting, and the phone goes off, it's not as quick a draw, but you also look a little less geeky (and here, I'm not one to throw stones, I at one time had both a phone holster, and a PDA holster, occasionally a beeper, I felt like Batman with his utility belt). Granted, people might look at the bulge in your pants and, well.

It was just out of couriosity that i really wanted to try croc style. But I think i would agree with you and go for the soft leather on my next purchase.:)

I still own the Motorola Multi Media Dock. Has anyone out there attempted to use their Seidio Innocase with the Motorola Dock? I am thinking it will not work...but...it's worth asking! I am trying to avoid spending the extra cash on the Seidio Dock and shipping.

Hi Frank,

Unfortunately, the Innocase will not fit with the Motorola Dock. I have the Motorola Dock and ordered the Innocase (not knowing that it wouldn't fit). The Innocase is really difficult to remove, so it's not like I can just quickly pop it off to drop it into the Dock. Unfortunately, the top piece of the Innocase didn't fit my phone, so I'm waiting on a replacement from Seidio. In the meantime, I've been carrying the Droid around without any case and it's been fine so far. I don't love the idea of having to return the perfectly functional Motorola Dock in order to buy an even more expensive Seidio Dock. I may just return the Innocase and be done with it.

I've had the PDair case for about a month now and really like it a lot. It's made well, looks sharp and fits well. I like that fact that it doesn't have the belt clip. Lays flat and feels comfortable if you have it in your hand. I do have another generic case that I picked up from Target that does use velcro & has a belt clip (cheap - $9). It's used on the occasions where I don't feel like carrying my phone in my pocket. IMO you can't go wrong with the PDair.

So I took the chance of the Innocase and holster. My husband said he's going to send me to CA--caseaholic anonymous--because I buy a case, hate it, buy another, hate it, and so on.

Well so far I really like the innocase, which means quite a bit since I hate every case I get, including the case like this I got for a different phone in the past. So far it doesn't seem like it is causing the screen to separate like the body glove was. It is slim and doesn't add much bulk either. It is definitely sleeker and more refined than the VZW snap-on in my opinion. So far I haven't had any problem removing the back to dock either. As long as I don't get any indication in the next few days of the case inhibiting the slide or causing the screen to sepaate, this one will be a keeper.

I've always loved Seidio holsters. This is my fourth one, I've had one for every one of my phones. Clip is good, locks and swivels, and doesn't pinch.

I have a sena kutu coming also, which will likely be going back if I keep this innocase.

So what kind of protection does the innocase provide if it is dropped?

Quite good, actually. It's thin but tough.
I agree. I mean, it's not going to save your phone in a catastrophic drop, but honestly, how many cases will? Unless you are talking about a bulky, bag, or book type case, I doubt there is any slim case that is gonna save your phone when the wife is pissed at you and launches it across the room ;-)

The body glove case probably provides a little more shock absorption, but at the expense of even more bulk. I think the Innocase will protect the finish, protect the screen if your phone were to go sliding across the floor when it is dropped, and will reasonably absorb shock for a normal drop like from waist height onto concrete or maybe from a table onto a hardwood floor. None of my phones ever broke from these types of drops, but the finish got nicked and scratched which annoyed me, hence my constant search for the case for me.

I just dropped my Droid today--I knew a drop was coming soon, just happy it happened once I got a case on to help protect the finish--and it was none the worse for wear. Dropped it from about 4 feet high onto concrete. Who knows if the case made the difference or not in keeping it alive, but it works and its not scratched up so i'm happy.

I think people have unreasonably high expectations of a case protecting a phone from breaking in a drop. I'm just looking for my case to protect the phone from chips and nicks when I drop it. I think a drop bad enough to break the phone will break the phone, case or not, for any case I'd be willing to carry.

Probably the only thing that will save the phone from any drops is most likely those extra thick cut silicon cases that have been out and about the past couple of years. those are pretty good at taking shocks.

me and my clumsy hands, um, I just go with leather just in case.:icon_ devil:

is there a case out there where the tabs do not break off so easy. I have body glove and it now useless, the same with the one I bought from vzw. How is seido, I do not wanna pay alot of money for a case to see it tabless in 3 months.

Great. Thanks for the feedback. How secure is the phone in the pouch? I shouldn't be worried about it falling out right? And is it easy to remove the phone? Thanks again.

Phone is very secure in pouch so I wouldn't worry about it falling out. I've shaken it to see how much it would take to make the phone fall out and I can't imagine anyone shaking their phone that much for any reason. Removing the phone is not that difficult. I normally use my thumb and pointing fingers to grab the phone while pulling it out. You will occasionally grab the volume button but IMO it's not a deal breaker. I've only had it over a month, but it still impresses me. Hope this helps.
