Motorola Droid Case Reviews

I literally have like 6 cases that I tried and did not like.At work I have for the last 5 years carried a Zune (1st gen still ticking)so a horizontal case was not even considered.I have both docks so I wanted to be able to use them easily. Then I had a snap on one with a rubberized coating was ok(just ok).I also had the Verizon store clip on it has nothing holding the top. Then I have a few pouch style ones but quickly figured out about the magnet forcing it into multimedia mode.I ended up with a hedocell(ebay) snap case which is pretty nice.I have also bought 4 screen protectors and the one that came with one of the snap on covers an Insten makes it, it has a peel off layer on both sides. You peel the to the screen side and work it on then peel off the outside layer you were rubbing a credit card all over, kinda protects it during install.I have had it a month or so and it doesn't have not one scratch on it and I am a plumber in Florida lots of sand around here.Enjoy your Droids and keep them nice at all costs.=]

I bought the Seido innocase holster for my Droid and love it. It is the only holster that I could find that would fit using a snap on case.

Hi all,

I am looking for some advice for a horizontal leather case for my droid with Seidio Innocase. I have the Seidio holster which works fine, but I would like something a little more formal. I know that Seidio has a horizontal leather case but it uses a slipon belt clip. From past experience, they are horrible because the case falls off too easily especially when getting in and out of my car. I am considering a Krusell Hector Large but don't know if it is large enough to hold a droid with Innocase.

Thanks,
Jim

When I purchased my Droid last November (2009), I also bought the Body Glove case for it. The salesman installed it upside down. I used a store card (like a credit card) and the back popped right off. I also have both the Car Mount and the Multi-Media stand. Ye, I popped the back Body Glove off all the time to use these mounts.

The other day, I wandered into a Verizon store and purchased a Verizon-labeled Droid holster clip. I used holter clip styles for years with my Treo and no problems. The Droid version has a hinged clip on the top for easy removal of the Driod from the holster.

Now, it is very easy to use both the car and the multi-media mounts.

Just my experience, your may differ.

FYI... the leather pouches I have that were specifically designed for my old Treo 650 all work well with a Droid that has the Seidio (and Otterbox, and Verizon hard cases).

Also, I noticed that my "cased" Droid fit very well into my wife's leather Zune pouch/case.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the information. I've ordered a Cellet Noble leather case. They have a version that doesn't use magnets and may be big enough to hold my Droid with a Seidio Innocase. I'll post if it works. Otherwise, I'll look into your suggestions.

Case-Mate Fail

I wonder if the fit of my Sena case is normal or if perhaps I got a lone deviant, LOL. Or perhaps my expectation of how snug it would fit is just too high.

I would expect it to be pretty darn tight fit if it comes with a strap to get the phone out. I don't see needing to use the strap at all with my case, since a few shakes and the phone is out and in my hand ready to go.

I think I've decided to return it. I won't bother with trying a replacement unless Sena is willing to cover the shipping costs.

I have a Sena Kutu (posted a review earlier), and I'd say yours is about the norm. I've been using mine for a while, and while the phone won't fall out, you can with shaking get it to come out. Of course, it comes out more easily with the strap. The case is snug, but doesn't have a death grip on the phone. You can tighten things up a bit by using some business cards, but leather is going to stretch some, over time. I've tried some cases that were just too tight, it was like a wrestling match to get the phone in or out. Not good, if you're trying to answer the thing. And I have another case with a strap, but in general, it's about the same looseness (and less protective) compared to the Kutu.

I see there's been some discussion of protection, the Kutu, for a Leather case, is pretty good. The top of the phone is not protected, but all of the other sides are. The leather is fairly thick, somewhere around 2mm I'd say, and no case is going to be totally protective and allow you to get the phone out quickly enough to answer, I think the Kutu will probably do pretty well in 90%+ of the normal drops. Whether a silicone or Body glove would be better, I suppose they might pad things a bit more, but mostly they're not protective of the screen. The Kutu is.

I've not yet seen a review of the Case-Mate,

Case-Mate Motorola Droid Naked Case (Case-Mate CM010336), Motorola Cases, Holsters, Skins, and Accessories

that maybe has some potential, and is the only one I've seen pointed out that has some screen protection and doesn't cover the screen.

So far, for pocket cases (vertical holster or slip case, no belt loop), the Sena Kutu and Sena Ultraslim (less protective, but fits like a glove) are the best I've seen. They both cover the screen, and both are well made, quality leather and stitching. The Kutu is more protective, 5-sided. There are a lot of new cases coming out, but so far, Sena seems to me the best.

I did find a review online:

Hands On: Case-Mate Naked Case for the Motorola Droid - Gearlog

After reading it and experiencing massive frustration w/my screen protectors, I am opting to switch to this case from the Body Glove. I will give up some shock resistance but I think it will still be well protected.

Thanks for sharing this!:reddroid:

The Case-Mate I bought 2-1/2 mos. ago served me well until my phone hit the pavement in a parking lot. One of the tabs on the face plate broke off and no longer "snapped" into place. Great case but at $30+ to replace, I am thinking of going the holster route.

Plus, I received the Motorola MM dock as a gift ant need to fit my phone in there.

Again, this thread has proved very helpful!

I received the Cellet Noble case I ordered to hold my Droid with Sedio Innocase. I think I have found the solution for my needs. The Cellet case holds the Droid with Innocase nicely. The leather quality is good and it uses snaps instead of magnets for the case flap. The additional feature I like is the dual belt retaining system used with the case. It comes with a belt clip that slips onto a fastener on the back of the case. Also, it has a leather belt loop that opens with a snap. I've been using the belt loop. It is very convenient to put the case on my belt and to remove it. The Droid slips easily in and out of the case. The only thing missing is an opening along the side of the case for the headphone jack so that I can plug in my earbuds while wearing the case.

I use a modified leather pouch. I sewed a piece of leather onto the back after removing the belt clip. It's more difficult to put on my belt, but it can't fall off. By the way, if you carry it with the screen facing out, the magnetic cases don't interfere with the docking sensors on the back. I just wish it had the same magnetic sensor the Blackberrys have to turn off the screen.

a thin skin would work best - just to resist scratches but not helpful if dropped.

anyone making skins for the droid yet?

i have the body glove and really find it inconvenient to be able to use with multimedia station (misnamed) and the car mount. although this cover has saved my phone from a few minor drops.

i've actually use "reclaimed" Palm screen protectors that I had from a previous PDA (cut to fit) and they've worked just fine. Not the prettiest thing, but I've yet to find a screen protector that goes on smooth and stays that way - form or function? If you keep the Droid in a pocket with keys, the glass will eventually get scratched.

I just got the Body Glove case for my droid and i like it alot however it is such a pain to take on and off, so if you have the car mount or multimedia station it's a mission to pop the body glove off the phone for you to use the other mounts. Anyone else experiencing that?

I got Body Glove for a case as well. Yeah it's a pain. It lasted all of a couple of hours.

Now I don't use any. If it breaks, I'll just get the DROID X

For people who want a really simple belt case

Stopped by REI today to look for a simple, snug belt case for my Droid X. Turns out their "compass case" fits it absolutely perfectly. Nice and snug, heavy padded ripstop, still really thin, strong velcro closure. Top flap leaves enough room for a right-angle headphone plug and wire to exit. Big ticket item, 6 bucks. Has a belt strap, no clip, but for me I don't trust clips anyway. This will do me fine until Sena or someone comes out with a great case. Anyway it's REI product# 600538 and it's made by Rainbow of California. Hope this helps some of us who just want a simple case, and to be able to quickly remove the X and slip it into it's home or car dock.

I actually bought a case from verizon that has a hardened case and a holster to put the phone in face in to protect the screen from bumps while in the holster. I also have a screen protector on it. I think this holster and case is the best I have ever purchased for any phone.

Just ordered the Body Glove Rubber Snap On Cover with Belt Clip = $22.49 from VW's site. We'll see how it goes.
