My Dilemma with the bionic i bought on oct 7th should i bring it back and wait

My wife's cousin is in town for the weekend and she has the Samsung Galaxy S with At&t and her videos and pictures blow my Droid X and the Bionic AWAY.

That's fine if all you want is a camera.
But if you want a reliable GPS and a phone to actually make phone calls on, stay away from Samsung and AT&T, respectively.
I just switched from the Death Star to Verizon a few weeks ago, and my Captivate's GPS was pretty much unusable because it was forever searching for the GPS signal (same issues with the Fascinate, so it's the phone, not the service), and my phone calls (while in transit) would never go more than 10 minutes without dropping. Since switching to Verizon on 9/29, I have not had one single call dropped, even calls lasting over an hour. And I drive a LOT and cover a lot of ground.

Btw, this Bionic takes pictures as good or better than the Captivate. I haven't tried video on this yet.

Personally, getting the first 4g phone from any manufacturer is tough because they have to get the switching and battery issues worked out. I have the thunderbolt from launch day and the og droid from launch. The thunderbolt is great now, but had issues the first few months, sounds like the same for the bionic. I would look at the new htc device ( vigor or rezound) or the nexus device personally.

For upgrades, HTC is slower than moto, but they both have the same issues, in that they fix 5 things and create two new problems. We have to remember we are on the cutting edge of technology.

For me the deal breaker on the bionic is the screen. But to each their own.

No it wouldn't. He's adding a line (with originally a data package) to get the Bionic for a penny. He will then switch the Bionic to his current line and put a dumb phone with no data on the new line.

What he said!!!!!!

Man people need to read the fine print. The Bionic for a penny deal means a new line with NEW VERIZON CUSTOMERS. You can't add a line to an existing account to get it for 1 cent. You can probably find it for much cheaper still, $150ish or something, to add a new line to an old account.

I know the idea of a 1 cent Bionic get's those juices going, but if they offered that deal to everyone then they wouldn't make ANY money...

Link?

This is what I see:

When you purchase your device from Amazonwireless.com, we automatically pass along an instant discount from the carrier to you. This discount has been provided to you based on your agreement to a) activate a new, or extend an existing line of service for this device from your carrier, ect.....

In fact, to verify, I even clicked "add a line to my family account". Price was a penny.

Interesting, maybe that was only the case at first because I did the exact same thing merely two weeks ago at most and it started at $299. However now if you do the contract extension it's only $250 and it does at it as .01 when you upgrade on a family plan. What's also interesting is it only works for the "Add a line to my FAMILY account," meaning if it was just you you'd actually have to upgrade your single line to a family line, which adds more expense, so maybe that's what it refers to and the process is the same as adding a whole new account.

Admittedly, my main source for this was an actual Verizon rep at a store. I asked him how that worked and he said it's only for new customers who start a Verizon line. This was earlier in the year for another phone. But I'd be interested if someone actually went through it there simply to upgrade and see if it actually goes through and doesn't give some lame error message at the end saying like "sorry, even though you went through all the steps you don't qualify for this."

I'd say return the Bionic and use your previous phone until the Prime comes out. Beyond that, I'm not you and don't know what you need in a phone.

If money isn't a concern keep the Bionic. If the Prime (or whatever it's name is) is that awesome get it then. I have a feeling that with a dual core 4g and the HD screen battery life is going to be a major problem. The pentile screen is obviously not hd quality but I'll take being able to read it in sunlight and not having to carry a generator and phone charger with me at all times any day.

I have had the Bionic since launch and have had very few issues (most of which were solvable just by posting here).

Is zumocast a bionic exclusive? I thought it was just an app that could be used by any phone.

bionic vs new smart phones

yes zumocast is moto app and only droid 3 and bionic now , and we dont know if the new razor will have this feautre or not,

I can just see the future...... We'll have a thread just like this one filled with new Prime owners asking the same question because a quad core phone with a 1080p screen and a 20MP camera is coming out.

I doubt it, unless the Prime is just a flop.

Phone specs in general are pushing the boundaries of battery life as it is, unless they improve battery life immensely, we won't be seeing big jumps in tech specs for a while.

Like I said before. GPS usually doesn't work in Samsung phones. I know from experience. I guarantee the GPS will not work well at all in the nexus. It's simple...if you want a phone with a great screen, ics, fast processor but with a broken GPS, horrible build quality, and super late to get updates then get the Samsung phone. I personally like me GPS to work in my phones and like regular updates.

This is just not the case anymore, it has been verified that the SGSII GPS works very well. I agree that they've had many problems in the past, but give credit where credit is due. They saw a problem and made proper corrections.

Experience with past devices doesn't give you the ability to see the future.

It's going to be the only phone using ICS for at least a month or two, the probability of it receiving early updates is high.
