myLock in Market! Skip the Lock Screen!

I have plans to go ahead and put up a donation version in the market. I don't believe in free version/full version for such simple & small apps, but I want an option directly in market to donate without going to our paypal separately. Plenty of small scale apps offer donate purchase. If you want to donate now, go to the project blog at myLock for android and click the donate button on the left sidebar. Martin, if you could edit the first post with these donate instructions, that'd be great.
Took care of that for ya.

Just wanted to say, this program works much better with Handcent than it does with Chomp.

Yesterday I installed the Alpha3-213 version and did not really like it. It activated the camera button to wake the phone. Today I downloaded and installed the myLock_a3_0204 version and it seems great so far. I thought the Alpha3 213 version was much smoother and faster than the Alpha2, but holy moly, this version is stupendous. It's almost instantaneous. I really like it.

Sweet! An update already. I liked it anyway, now it is even better. I like how it starts up automatically now after initial unlock.

I sent $5.99 via PayPal. Keep up the great work in a great app.

I sent mine via Paypal as well. Keep up the good work!

I wouldn't be a customer for this app, but once you get all these people very happy, please apply your talent to making a customizable lock screen that still requires a slide to unlock. If that means putting an unlock widget on your widget welcome screen, that's fine.

Because Droids have the slide out keyboard, I need to rely on the fast power off from 2.01 and ROMs based on it. During the second that the screen is active when the two halves separate in my pocket that quarter inch needed to activate the screen, I need a fully locked screen. When my Droid had 2.0, with the slow screen relock, I'd take it out of my pocket and find 5 pocket dials to my on screen contacts and a bunch of apps open with random typing in them.

Since I totally subscribe to less is more, I'd actually like something that was as much like the lock screen as possible but allowed for more information to be displayed.

Now just to be totally clear, you've got five pages of love that I don't want to hijack. Make these happy customers happy first.

Sleeve, my focus right this moment is creating various replacement lockscreen including one that sticks to minimal and retains slide to unlock plus full customization of when/how the lockscreen will wake up. That's been the plan since before I wrote one line of code. I even plan to port the exact layout of stock lockscreen as an option, just with music controls and other utilities as options.

When the idea for this app first hit me, it was the desire that my waiting messages would display on my lockscreen. From there I've built the design from the ground up to make progress toward the realization of that functionality.

I have an issue that when I hang up from a call with mylock enabled, I have to do the slide unlock to get back in my phone. I'm going back to screen mode widget it works much better.

Oh yeah, I just tested this and I got the same result.

Difference for me is I'm sticking with petjakob and mylock. This app is great overall, and I know he'll fix any problems with it.

I was holding on to this app just in case you were planning alternative lock screens! You rock! Thanks for letting us know where you're headed!

petjakob is always coming by to help. Any issues you run into please post in this thread or the thread linked in the first post. It will greatly help the developer work out any bugs/issues. Thanks !

had the same issue along with some of the aforementioned. right now screen mode widget works better for me and rarely have any issues with. will try mylock again at a later date.

i would not pay for an app that does this. hope the dev doesn't start charging or i would see no reason at all to change from screen mode widget...

When Screen Mode addresses pocket unlocking (volume rocker and camera button are overkill to wake the phone IMO), then I'll consider it a 'replacement' for myLock.
Plus the widget for Screen Mode is ugly.

since i have case i never noticed the pocket unlocking thing. i happen to like being able to press any physical button to wake up the phone though. you're right about the widget being ugly though, lol. i've got it on one of my less used screens down in the corner so i don't really see it that much anyway.

will keep an eye on mylock, but if the dev charges a fee this app will never be on my droid. free screen unlock apps ftw! :icon_ banana:

Indeed no, I do not think it is right to develop in an open source platform, then expect people to buy your utility that could have been made by anyone with the same end use need. It's different with a game or app to connect to external services, but I consider this project merely a mod, not original content.

Honestly, with what I've learned on the code required to do a replacement lockscreen, it's basically like any app at all could have a lockscreen option with it like for example a music player that puts album art up when you wake it from sleep while the music was playing. This is new to android 2.0, in the past it was a lot more complicated. The code in the market version is mostly compatible with pre-2.0 but I've used some commands in the actual background process that are optimized for 2.0 so it is not backwards compatible right now.

Also, I have identified main use categories by now, in order of security preference

1- no security, any key full unlock
2- minimal to moderate- want some or all keys to wake up a lockscreen but also some actions to complete immediate unlock
3- full guarding - want only certain actions to cause any wakeup and want a safety check like slide to unlock
4- full lockdown - want to retain pattern security or alternative pin code security at all times in conjunction with an enhanced lockscreen.

Idle timeout security - with any lesser security method allow a time period (or locale preference) where the most secure mode starts itself.
