New Launcher : ADW

I have 0.8.2 system installed now and it seems as smooth as it always was...but then again I think ADW is faster than LP so what do I know. ;p

been on vaca, so, sorry if i'm behind... but i updated adw this morning and have noticed real choppiness in the previews transitions... anybody else? i do love the new backup features, though...

there were a couple of things I ended up not liking, particularly the app drawer is acting funny to me. i'm reverting back to 0.7.8, and I'll just wait and see what cyanogen wants to put in for 5.0.8 final. i'm happy with 0.7.8, to be honest - at some point when is more too much?

I'm still liking this better than LP, it just feels snappier and I get less FC's with this one vs LP... even with all the latest updates from both devs!

I have LP customized to the same degree as ADW in terms of widgets. Right now LP is still ahead. LP 0.60 vs ADW 0.80. But I like the power of customizabilty in ADW more.

BTW.... 0.85 is out! Very nice. The feature I asked for is here about disabling scrollable widgets. Now I need to evaluate if there's any performance difference:

Now the next part I don't want to sound like a whiner, but I actually like this one feature that another launcher (LP) implemented:

New: Option to keep LauncherPro in memory. When you’re running low on memory, the system usually kills LauncherPro, so next time you open it, it has to reload all widgets and icons which takes a few seconds. This option should keep the system from killing LauncherPro. If you experience any troubles with it, please disable it on the settings.

THIS would be immensely helpful as I'm someone who has many widgets on my home screen. Many of them are small like simple counters for missed calls and SMS and Gmail. Would be nice to have them not take forever to load... LOL.

Also, any comment on why Sense previews are slower when hitting Home button versus pinching?

Yet I swear there is something beneficial to having the launcher reside in /system/app, mostly having to do with lag when launching dialer or handcent. When I used to have launchers in /data I would get annoying 2 second lags when trying to open the aforementioned apps, when the recent 5.0.8 CM test builds came out with ADW default in /system, that problem went away. I've recently been using Launcher Pro and moved it to /system/app. No lag there either.

I am still using and loving ADW. It runs slick over froyo, and never stalls or FC's. Launcher pro runs well too, but the options to customize in ADW top pro I think.

i agree, but don't post that in the LP thread, you flamer!

hey, all I have is a single data point. but to me it's the only one that matters! lol

The new gesture feature is great -- now I can have a home screen with the notification bar hidden, but now a swipe down can be configured to pull down either the bar alone, or the whole notification shade.
