Next Droid update

a new media player is a must. more home screens and maybe some improved sms and market stuff would be great as well!

Personally i'd be fine with both a 2.0.2 on Jan 11th and a 2.1.0 on Jan 22nd. Still Verizon reps seem to be uninformed in general. Now some of them are quite good, however in general again uninformed.

I remember when i was buying my Droid, every single Verizon Tech was telling me there was Tethering support and I kept saying there wasnt from what i had read online.

So I was talking with a verizon rep who told em the next update, 2.0.2, would be available on January 11. Good news for anyone still having bugs.

According to the rep this would be another fix update, but after this they will start working on adding stuff.

Apparently there will be another update in January's but indications are it will be 2.10. And the date its suppose to come out escapes me but its not the 11th.

I know you are new to this forum. I'm new too but I've been around smart phones for a while. Just a piece of advice: Never believe anything a Verizon Rep tells you. Chances are we know more then they do. ;)

I agree never believe anything a Verizon rep says! They have very few people that know what they are talking about when it comes to devices. Most of them ran the drive through at McDonald's before working at Big Red. I've dealt with them long enough to know.

All I really wanted was the "F" release to Fudge Brownie - DAMN YOU GOOGLE !!!!

I love the theory above. One guy says never believe a thing a verizon rep says, then a guy says "I know this is not true cause I work for Verizon" You could explode if you think about that too much :)

Media player def needs some features added while playing music and phone is locked like play pause forward and rewind makes for easier operation while i drive when i want to switch songs.

The Documents leaked over a month ago were *spot on* with the December 11th update to the Droid, so it's somewhat safe to say that the purported January 22nd date for another update is also somewhat of truth. The longer list of updates on the January 22nd date indicates that i might be a 2.1 update and not just a 2.0.2 update. However, I would welcome both.

haha, i've been told some crazy stuff from them over the years thats defiantly not true

You can believe whatever you want, but if you believe what a Verizon Rep tells you then you, sir, are a fool.

Wow, never have I been so disrespected for simply making a comment. Where do you guys get off thinking you know everything there is to know. The Jan. 22nd 2.1 update is also rumor so it could be possible that YOU guys are wrong. I didn't realize this forum was filled with know it all pricks.

Hey mods, you just lost a memeber.

The "fool" comment was a bit out of line. I don't think they meant to come off that way they were just getting across the point that Verizon reps can be pretty dumb.

(I'd have been pissed off if I read that too)

Although the Nexus may be outed on the 5th, there is no expectation that the 2.1 that would be fully compatible on the Droid would be ready by the 22nd of Jan IMO.

Obviously google isn't leaking one out there, but look at the ported 2.1 and the remaining issues noted on it here, do we believe those issues could have already been addressed and ready for a stable 2.1 on the Droid in 4 weeks?

I hope so ...

if 2.1 is the next update for the Droid, Google isn't gonna wait til after the Nexus release to start 'tweaking' 2.1 to work properly on the Droid. It's already underway :)

It all depends on who you speak to at verizon.

That statement is very true!!!! I have been with Verizon for a little over 10 years now and have dealt with one store only. When you walk in and you talk to the "new" faces you are going to get generic answers and maybe some stuff that is pleasant or easy on the ears ie...what you want to hear. If you know your VZW associate and they have been there awhile and have not told you anything wrong in the past then you should believe them. BTW i was told the release of the next update was mid to late january. No day in particular.

I mostly was referring to a couple of geek friends who work at Verizon in a support capacity. In other words, never fully trust what a SALES person is saying - go to the geeks who are typically hands-on with the handsets if you want actual useful knowledge. ;)
