Next Droid update

It has been rumored that everyone that has posted in this thread will find themselves in a new year at the stroke of midnight tonight.

Happy New Year all and lighten up a little. :icon_ banana:

Look like someone needs one of these :

I mostly was referring to a couple of geek friends who work at Verizon in a support capacity. In other words, never fully trust what a SALES person is saying - go to the geeks who are typically hands-on with the handsets if you want actual useful knowledge. ;)

Ya - I can give you a great example. I was at a Verizon store looking at Droid accessories. A rep cam over to try to sell me a phone. He told me I could watch HD quality full screen videos in TV.COm. He claimed he did it in a training session. He thought he was SELLING me a Droid. I pulled my Droid out of my holster (TV.Com shortcut is right on homescreen) and asked him to show me. LOL After a few fumbles he swore you COULD do it but he forgot how. Once he figured out he couldn't sell me something he couldn't get away fast enough.

Question--

Can/will any future update for our droid fix the slight lag the phone has? The only beef I can find with this phone is how choppy it is. I envy the smoothness of the Iphone :/

It is inevitable that the next release of any software for any platform will fix some (but not all) past problems, and introduce new ones. The hope is that the problems fixed will satisfy customers enough to overlook hopefully minor bugs introduced. Hopefully Google/Motorola/VZW don't try to overachieve on this or any other release. Also hopefully they spend appropriate time testing. Some updates can leave you wondering if any testing was done or if they even use their own products.

I haven't noticed some of the bugs that people seem to be talking about, well, with the exception of the camera, I expected better pics from a 5MP camera (I know, it's "just" a cell phone camera with a tiny lens)the 2MP photos from my AT&T "Go Phone" are sharper than the ones from the Droid.

Perhaps I haven't noticed many of the bugs, because the "newness" hasn't worn off yet. So far, my Droid has been performing well, and seems to be running fine.

A Verizon rep told me, when I got the phone to expect a "major update" to the phone to occur sometime after the first of the year.

My question is, when the update comes, will it be a push to our phones, or will we have to go to a website to d/l and install? Or worse, download to our home computers, attach the phone, and then transfer the update?

Interesting, but you didn't really answer my question. The droid is not as fluent as the Iphone. That specific problem, can it be fixed with an update or will we forever have to suffer from that problem?

Are you using the stock home screen or something like GDE, Home++, Launcher+ or Panda Home? If so, go back to the stock screen. It's going to be smoother than your iPhone and smoother than a baby's butt.

I have used the stock screen since I purchased... and I have no lag whatsoever... like the previous poster said, smooth as a baby's butt.

Well...how can any of us answer that? We as non-developers can only speculate. I personally think they will improve it.

Knowing a lot about how Linux is structured, as well as having a background in development, most of the little hiccups look definitely like software issues. The hardware is highly similar to the iPhone, so I really think a lot of the little issues we are seeing with performance (and I do mean little, at least in my experience with the phone so far) could easily be fixed in a future software update.

A lot of the people who have installed 2.1 on their rooted phones have mentioned how "snappy" the new version is. Search for 2.1 and see people's reviews, the speed of the droid seems to be increased.

I'm not using any of those. Don't get me wrong, overall it's smooth for the most part, I just notice a slight stutter when swiping through apps etc.. It's not a big deal, I just noticed on my friends Iphone that it never has any kind of stutter no matter how quickly you swipe through it.

I don't know, a lot of you seem to know a lot about this type stuff. I'm coming from a crappy blackberry, this is the first time I've ever had a touch smart phone. I do know that the Iphone processor is slightly better than ours, so I wasn't sure if this was a hardware issue or a software issue.

Dear Stigy,

Very disappointed by your reaction to one member calling another a fool for no apparent reason. It is offensive and unacceptable. Is this really the kind of forum that we want?

Are you serious? What do you expect him to do? Ban him? You people need to stop being so damn sensitive.
