NFL Mobile now requiring subscription?

Now i'm thrown off.

I just clicked the "watch live" for the redskins - cowboys game and it let me watch. it didn't prompt anything, but i did notice that the loading icon was the Vcast icon. am i going to be charged for the 2 seconds i did watch?

for the record i downloaded this app when it was first released.

I just installed it on my Droid 1 and at the beginning it tells you that you need an unlimited data plan to avoid being charged, and that a VCAST subcription MIGHT be necessary.

So 4 pages and no official conclusion?

Well my conclusion is if you Downloaded it orginally back in March or at least before Sep 1st then you are good, if not you get charged the $10/mo. But then again I read on another post that someone called Verizon and walked them through bypassing the Vcast pay subscription.

Either way I'll enjoy it free for a year. I'm not sold though on keeping beyond that for 10/mo. It's nice but not for $120 a year! For that price I'd spend the small fortune of getting rid of FiOS and getting DTV with sunday ticket.

I'd like official word too. Wanted to watch tonight, but I'm not paying for vcast, and I got the notice.

Emitted from X.

i know there are some users who work at Verizon that come and try to help on the boards.

Can any one of those users please step up and clarify this for us?

The bottom line is that VCAST isnt available for smartphone users. I know this because I had a regular phone with it before getting my Droid and they canceled it because VCAST is only available for those phones.

I'm pretty sure the app is available for those phones as well. However, only THOSE phones require VCAST to stream the games, not smartphone users.

I didn't think VCAST was available for the Droid either, but it must be now. I used to have the NFL app installed and could watch videos with no prompts, but this was before the season started so no games yet. I deleted it for memory reasons. Now that I have reinstalled it I can't watch any videos, ANY videos without that message. I love football a lot but I will not subscribe to VCAST to watch a video of a press conference (I suppose you could subscribe during the season and cancel after the Super Bowl...). Not to hijack the thread, but what else is available with VCAST that might even begin to make it worth $10 more on my phone bill. One other thing I noticed, there doesn't seem to be an option to exit the application. I'm thinking about deleting it again.

If there is an official bypass for this from Verizon, I would love to hear the details.

As soon as I updated my NFL Mobile app it immediately began asking me to sign up for a subscription! What bullsh!t. Big mistake Verizon! The reason I (and I am sure many others) left Apple/ ATT was because of these deceptive little gimmicks! Gimme back my NFL Mobile Live!! Everyone call and demand our NFL Mobile back! ,!..

I had NFL Mobile installed on my Droid 2 since 8/12 it was free until the pre-season ended. Now any video played through the app will require a $10 VCAST or a $4 for 24 hours of usage.

So basically, like many apps, Verizon/NFL gave us a free trial period. I would be fine with that, except they made no attempt in warning us of this change, at least not through the app or market. Seems like they made a last-minute decision to see how much money they can shake us football fanatics down for!

I think if you had the app installed since July(ish) you may get lucky and not get charged this season. That is also crap IMO, especially since I couldn't even buy a droid phone for about 2-3 months (backordered and not in stock at stores)

I plan on continuously calling Tech support until somebody does the bypass.

same thing with me too. The VCAST is 10.00/month for NFL Mobil. NFL on-the-go through DTV is also 10.00/month... Like we dont pay enough for the NFL! Suffice to say, I will not be subscribing. The NFL, DTV and VZW have enough of my money.

So I have the unlimited plan and I still haven't been alerted by the app that I subscribed to v cast. Hopefully I will never be charged.
