in the Rom threads you may be interested in flashing there are detailed instructions for installing them in CWMR

Backups

n00b to this flashing stuff, but the first post is great...I think I'll have no trouble.

My question is: how do I best backup everything before this full wipe? I've searched around and am dizzy from all the info...and still don't have a good answer.

I've got a plain Fascinate with just the VZW updates, a bunch of apps (most of which I've tried once and would uninstall if I ever found the time!), and very little data worth saving. I have around 500 contacts, but they are all synced with my Outlook.

Links to reletive posts would be great...thanks!

Get Titanium Backup or My Backup Pro from the market to backup...

On a budget of $0...any free alternatives? :-)

both have free versions available.....androzip file manager and astro file manager will also backup your apps

If your coming from 2.1 to Froyo 2.2 you shouldnt restore data anyway so I wouldnt suggest trying that....

Oh; well, that's the case, so I guess I'll just copy the sd card to my pc (to save my pics/videos and documents) and get going on this root thing. :-)

Thanks!

Done! Sort of. :-)

2 hours worth of research, 10 minutes worth of updating, 5 hours worth of setting up my phone, downloading apps, trying to turn all the sounds off, etc. :-)

Questions:
-My phone came with thinkfree office, the full version. It's no longer there, and the app in the market is $15. Any way to get the full version back without unrooting?
-In the stock build, I was able to add mail from my ISPs; now I can't find that option...help?
-There's no voice-dial in this version (that I can find). Is that because it never worked well in the stock build?
-Help me with vocabulary: I know this thread is titled "[Odin] Full EB01 Froyo leak, packaged ROMs w/root and new clockwork"; but what have I actually just done to my phone? I followed the steps in post 1 exactly. I chose 2.9 since I was coming from stock build and didn't want to have a bunch of errors (like the note for 2.9.2 says). So...did i just odin my phone to 2.9? Did I install a ROM? Did I install a kernal? Am I using voodoo or nonvoodoo? Did I wipe the cache? What's Dalvik? What's clockwork and why would I use it?

Sorry...there are so many terms floating around that I'm totally confused...just want to know how to communicate what I did to my phone, and also want to know what's left to do to it. :-)

You have helped - along with others - to make my Fascinate useful for a much longer period of time. I went into this reading enough before I began to root and update easily. I understood it would wipe out everything stock on the phone and that would be my choice to put on the phone what the market had to offer as Samsung is not supporting your efforts to improve the device.

I understood that the software could be buggy or the root might fail even following the instructions. Again my choice. My phone works much better than it did before.

I look forward one day to trying gingerbread using these steps. (No pressure. lol)

Thanks Again.

Hello, first of all I would likle to thank you for this quick and easy upgrade. I used the stock based version and it has worked great since I installed it last weekend. I have one minor but rather annoying problem, though. At some point the weatherbug clock's time has moved forward exactly one hour. I have tried about everything I could think of to get it to re-synch, but it hasen't worked. I'd rather not have to reinstall the whole package since even though it took me less than 15 minutes to flash the phone, it took me about 3 hours to get all of my setup and apps back. I don't know if anyone can help with this, but I would definitely appreciate it.
