OFFICAL OTA .zip Installation Guide Droid Razr & Razr Maxx

This forum and thread saved me, thanks to everyone who posted their experiences. I was dead in the water last night.

I think my problem was related to full device encryption and a separate device administrator we impose on corporate email.

I am officially on ICS, with my only issue so far being that the Home and Search buttons don't work. I can feel the heptic feedback, but the buttons don't do a thing.

EDIT - looks like my car dock and HD dock don't recognize the phone when docking...

Any suggestions?

- JC

Save everything on your phone/imporant data and factory restore, it's in Settings -> Privacy -> Factory Data Reset

So I read that the dropbox is down, but when I try the other link, it looks like it may be down as well:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip on this server.

Links are back up!! Sorry!! dancedroid

Okay this may be a completely dumb question but is this zip file installation done by computer or can u do it directly with your phone only

I might just useless and blind but I can't find the external as folder to place the download under. Help

Connect your phone to computer. Pull down the notification on your phone that will pop up, and click on "Mass Storage" you will see one of the two new drives will be the EXTERNAL SD card.

No questions on this thread are "dumb" :) It technically can be both, but I find it for people who don't know much about this stuff to rather do it through their comptuers to avoid problems. If you can do this already then go ahead:

Go download ICS on your phone (It will save in your "Downloads" folder in your INTERNAL SD card) you will need to MOVE it to your EXTERNAL SD card, use an app like Astro or ES File Explorer (Both free in market) to move the file you downloaded to your external sd card.

I still suggest using your computer to download and transferring the file to your phone. Less prone of errors that way.

Well I have the settings set to download directly to my external SD card instead of internal storage but when I follow the steps I can't find the zip file anywhere so I just let it boot back thru gingerbread...I don't have a computer handy all I have is a galaxy tab and I don't think that will work as well as a PC would if at all....maybe I should just wait for the ota I really want ics but I'm just not that computer savvy

I would suggest just waiting for OTA or until you have a computer handy, what if you get a soft brick right now trying to do this and you have no computer available :icon_eek: If you're planning to do this also charge up to 100% battery.

Even set to download to extsd it'll put it in a folder named download but if you spook easy if also just wait till ota I was one of the first in the thread to successfully install this its worth it if you don't run into to many problems installing it its around the corner cus this is a solid build.

BWAH-HA-HA! The deed is done! ICS from sideload is done!
I read the posts, I wondered, I gleaned. Have it unplugged. OK. Tried that. ALMOST finished: got to patching boot image, then failed, status 0. BUT I remembered seth7garcia's post, #390 (OK, I had to look it up). I did that. After 2 tries (nothing much else I could have done at that point) it Fully Installed and All Is Well! Thanks all. And now to see what works, and what doesn't. Yippee!

had the same problem with the home in the search to use to fix it I had to do a system restore and then reinstall the I c s update

Widget names not showing up...

So I had some issues side loading, but finally got it to work. Unfortunately had to do a factory reset along the way, but I'm up and running, re-installing apps and rebuilding my home screen.

One issue though: When I go to add a widget, the NAME of the widget is now showing up in the list. I see the icon, but the name area is blank. Now, if I tap on one, the name shows up while I'm holding it, so I can get by, but obviously this isn't ideal. Anyone else run into this? Anyone have a solution?

So I just realized I don't have 4G serivice and called Verizon. He ran through the steps turning it off and on turning certain features off and on. Then he askes for an IMEI number and it says unknown. He said thats like the serial number. Saturday I tried doing this manual update and it didn't work so I used matts utility 1.7 to restore it back to gingerbread. Could doing that effect my 4G and or this IMEI number? I'm just nervous about voiding a warranty or anything. I didn't tell verzion that I tried doing this update.....now the guy just called a local store and they said that none of their 4G phones have 4G singal's. So I guess it isn't just me. either way though, could doing what I did effect either my 4G or the IMEI number?

I can't find the root/cache folder

Ok guys, really simple. I am coming from .181 gingerbread 2.3.6. I am rooted. You only need to backup your root with Voodoo to keep the root. No safestrap/bootstrap. The easiest way to install this is to
1) root your phone with whatever utility you please
2) install ROM manager free version, and ES File Explorer.
3) download the OTA update on page 1
4) You need to enable up to root and root explorer within ES File Manger within the settings.
5) Copy the OTA to the Root/Cache folder
6) Open the OTA file and when it prompts you what you would like to open this file with, select ROM Manager.
7) ROM Manager will restart your phone and install the update.

Worked like butter for me. I LOVE ICS!!! FINALLY!!

I can't find the root/cache folder

Not sure why but I guess I'm gonna try this out. guess its because a boring rainy day here in Savannah and I just don't have enough stress in my life. hopefully it works without it bricking.
