OFFICAL OTA .zip Installation Guide Droid Razr & Razr Maxx

Ok, ran Matt's utility option 1 to get back from bricked phone. Screen still says "Device is LOCKED. Status Code 0. Should it say "Device is UNLOCKED" once Matt's utility runs?

Im more of a visual learner.

Ok, ran Matt's utility option #1 2x, booted to recovery, and ran install from sdcard. still failing. I'm still wiping cache partician 2x prior to running install from sdcard. If I select "wipe data/factory reset" will it erase the update file from SD Card? Do you guys recommend the wipe data/factory reset?

Thanks..... (ARRRGGGG!!!!)

A factory data reset will not erase the external SD card. Get that update file on the external sd card. Even if it means removing the card from the phone, and placing it into an adapter, putting the file on the card and replacing it into the phone. Run option 1, run option 2, install update in stock recovery, then wipe data in stock recovery, and reboot.

Thanks for your reply. Just to make sure I'm clear... I'm going to 1) Wipe data/factory reset 2) run option 1 3) run option 2 4) Install update from sdcard (it's already on sdcard) 5) wipe data/factory reset again 6 reboot.

Is that right?

I'm in the "nogo" group... I'm on my 5 or so attempt at installing the update from page 1. Followed instruction exactly and keep getting "install aborted" and something about sideload. I'm wiping cache like 4 times before telling it to apply update from sdcard. Phone is bone pure stock. Any clue what I'm doing wrong? Keep trying???

1 wiping cache partition 2x
2 Apply update from sdcard
Then
-- Install /sdcard
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
assert failed: mount("ext3". "MTD" . "system" . "/system")
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip (status 7)
Installation aborted.

Yanno -- when I updated my uncle's RazrMaxx I had the same issue after flashing from Matt's Utility. It sounds dumb as @)#*#@ but after you clear the cache, reboot the phone fully ONCE, then go back into recovery and try to flash the update. Thats what the trick was on my uncle's phone. Good luck!

Working Instructions!

Ok, everyone!

I followed this tread for quite some time and tried various things going from the stock Android 2.3.6 - 6.12.181.XT912 on Droid Razr MAXX to update to ICS. I also received a softbrick after three attempts. For those of you that are concerned about softbricking your phone I recommend the following:

READ EVERYTHING BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY STEPS - YOU WILL FACTORY RESET YOUR PHONE DURING THIS PROCESS ERASING ALL DATA (INCLUDING THE INTERNAL STORAGE!!!)

Files needed (Links from my DropBox):

Motorola Drivers (If you don't have these already). They are also included below in Matt's Utility.

4.0.4 / 6.16.211.XT912 Update ----------> Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip

(Don't worry if the name of the .zip is 6.12.181, it's supposed to be that way, it means that's the VERSION you are coming from)

------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Backup all your data (I recommend TitaniumBackup but you will have to have a rooted phone for that program to work). Otherwise use a utility like MyBackup (found in the Google Play).

2. Make sure battery is AT LEAST 60% CHARGED, if not 100%.

3. Download the official OTA "Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip" file from above.

4. IMPORTANT! Place the file downloaded in step three into the ROOT of your EXTERNAL SD card. (DO NOT UNZIP THE FILE)

5. Turn off the phone.

6. Download the official OTA "DroidRazrUtility1.7forICS.zip" file from above.

7. Unzip all the files into the ROOT of your computer (C:\). (Thanks loudneon)

8. If you DO NOT already have the Motorola drivers installed, go into the "drivers" folder and select your OS type (64bit or 32bit). If you already have the drivers installed, continue.

9. Connect the phone to your computer.

10. Go into recovery by pressing and holding the Volume Up (+), Volume Down (-), and Power button all three at the same time. (Press and hold all physical buttons.)

11. With the Volume Down (-) key go down to AP Fastboot and select it by pressing the Volume Up (+) key. You are now in AP Fastboot mode.

12. From Step 4 files (Files extracted to C:\), double click on the "DroidRAZRUtility.bat" file.

13. Press any key to get started.

14. Select option 1 and follow the instructions.

15. Once it is done with the process, your phone will be 100% ready to flash the ICS update.

16. Power off your phone.

17. Boot the phone into recovery mode by pressing and holding the Volume Up (+), Volume Down (-), and Power button all three at the same time. (Press and hold all physical buttons.)

18. The menu will come up and select "Recovery".(Volume Down key to go down and Volume Up key to SELECT/ENTER Recovery.)

*The Android and Exclamation mark logos will come up*

19. Press both Volume Up (+) and the Volume Down (-) buttons at the same time. Release.

20. With the Volume Down (-) button select "Wipe Data" and press the power button to select it.

21. Once complete, go to "Wipe CACHE partition" and press the Power button to select it.

22. VERY IMPORTANT! REBOOT YOUR PHONE again into recovery mode! - DO NOT BOOT UP THE PHONE TO THE OS!

23. WIPE THE CACHE AGAIN!

24. With the Volume Down (-) button go down to "Apply Update from SDCard" and press the Power button to select it.

25. Volume Down (-) go to the “Blur_Version.6.12.173.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip” and select it with the Power button. (This is the one we put in the External SD in Step 2.)

26. It will take a while to upgrade, PLEASE BE PATIENT

27. Once it is done, go to "Reboot system now."

28. Official ICS, Enjoy!!! =D

29. If Desired, run Matt's Utility again to root your phone & install OTA RootKeepr (Make sure USB debugging is enabled).

Once it's your first time starting ICS, it WILL take a while to load up, it is normal, it will also be "Optimizing applications" at first start up.

Thank you to rda990 for this thread!

I've been following this thread all weekend, and I kept telling myself "don't do it, wait for OTA, too risky"

A few minutes ago I decided screw it, I'm going for it. I did the following:

- Moved all apps from SD back to internal memory (heard there was an issue losing these apps)
- Used Titanium backup to UNfreeze all system apps I had frozen
- Used Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper to hide root

Now I should be totally stock. So then, I began update using known good procedure:

- Boot into recovery
- Wipe Cache twice
- Reboot into recovery again
- Install update from SDCARD

And.... error 7. Didn't even get the softbrick that was expected, just immediately the error 7. Tried repeating the above 3 more times, same result.

Fortunately though, this meant my GB install was never wiped, so I was able to just reboot and breathe a sigh of relief when my phone came back up normally.

It seems that the update package is VERY picky about it's verification stage... it finds something it doesn't like and aborts. I thought this usually meant missing system apps or finding root installed. But I thought I had all those bases covered.

Yes, I could probably flash back to stock with Matt's utility and do it, but I'm just going to wait for the OTA, like I've been telling myself to do all along.
I'd prefer not to have to reinstall all my stuff.

I never had to reinstall my things with the actions I took, and posted.

ok very first post.

i have error code 7 could someone please direct me to what post has answered what to do when this happens.

if it hasn't been answered yet could someone please explain to me in EXTREMELY simple terms how to fix it.

I'm just reallllly sick of my girlfriend telling me "I told you not to do it."

thank you in advance for all the help.

My post, last one on page 39

I installed the leak a couple hours ago. On the first attempt it froze at Patching boot image...
I had to force shut down my phone and ran the process again upon restart. it worked without a charm! No utility, or even a computer. ICS is running smooth as silk ;)
