OFFICAL OTA .zip Installation Guide Droid Razr & Razr Maxx

I never had to reinstall my things with the actions I took, and posted.

Thing is, I couldn't even get to the "Stuck at M logo screen". I get error code 7 before the update even gets started. Tried all combinations of cache wiping/rebooting/repeating.

If I did Matt's utility option 1 first, it would probably work, but if you do that then you ARE wiping your phone and you need to reinstall everything. I'd rather not.

Update.... I "think" that's done it. Thanks so much for putting it all in one place and step by step. Phone reads 4.0.4!!!! I'm glad I didn't wait for the silly OTA now! BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Ok guys, really simple. I am coming from .181 gingerbread 2.3.6. I am rooted. You only need to backup your root with Voodoo to keep the root. No safestrap/bootstrap. The easiest way to install this is to
1) root your phone with whatever utility you please
2) install ROM manager free version, and ES File Explorer.
3) download the OTA update on page 1
4) You need to enable up to root and root explorer within ES File Manger within the settings.
5) Copy the OTA to the Root/Cache folder
6) Open the OTA file and when it prompts you what you would like to open this file with, select ROM Manager.
7) ROM Manager will restart your phone and install the update.

Worked like butter for me. I LOVE ICS!!! FINALLY!!

This method works like a champ. Thank you from an impatient, new ics user.

Cant download the utility. Says you have been cut off because of so many requests. Can someone upload it again please?

Guys a need your help. I tried installing ics on my droid maxx and I got a soft brick. I did the motorola utilities 1.7 to go back to stock and now that my phone is back to "normal" I'm not getting 4g LTE. If I go to settings and to baseband version I got CDMA_N_05.11.01P notice there's no LTE like I used to before making the stupid decision to side load ics. Help!!

Here are some direct links to download the different (unauthorized links)

The detailed instructions are (unauthorized link).

Hopefully the moderator will be nice and leave these links :) (sorry, you were told once). Hope this helps those looking for a quick-ish solution!

thanks buddy

Your phone probably is only in CDMA mode. You'll have to enable LTE. Go to settings - wireless & settings - network mode then select LTE/CDMA. Not too sure but I think thats how the menu goes...I'm on ICS now so the menus have changed  but give that a try.

Sorry for not being here at all yesterday to assist people, the last couple of posts I've made here were from my Razr, which is hard to type long instructions to do on it. It finally died and couldn't get a good charge and I am finally able to get on a computer to reply to peoples issues, both until now. I'll go back and read all posts since page 30 or so when I last posted and help anyone who is stuck.

Like I said, I will go back and read every post here and help as many people as possible, even if it took me 3 hours, I don't want anyone feeling left outdancedroid. Long posts I have edited and shortened to not make it that long.

dude i am having the exact same problem.i have been trying to fix this all day. i cant fastboot because the battery is low. i got the ota update last night around 10. it got 3/4 of the way through and failed and restarted and will not and has not gone past the red m at startup.

Did you try the charging tricks? and you say you got the OTA THROUGH your phone last night? If you got it through your phone, there was no need to follow this guide at all, since this is for people who haven't gotten it yet and can't wait to get ICS.

UNLESS you are trying to say that you got the OTA update prompt on your phone, and STILL got these types of errors in here, if that is the case let me know ASAP please.

error 7...now soft bricked..moto screen for 5 minutes.

Sorry if I can't remember, but weren't you one of the first people to read this guide and install ICS successfully? If not did you get it?

anyone else having no unlock screen after update? i have checked my settings and its set to slide, no matter what though when i turn the screen on its already unlocked

I THINK I actually had that problem the first boot or second boot into ICS, if I did it got fixed by rebooting. Make sure to check the "Screen time out" option and put it to about 15 seconds, wait about 20 seconds to see if it'll work. If not the try setting "None", reboot and obviously there should be no locks screen. Go into settings after the reboot and change it to "Slide" reboot once more without checking the lock screen and it should be there.

No my wife made me sell my Droid R2D2 to pay for the off cycle upgrade. She was REALLY pissed I bought it and even MORE pissed that it doesn't work right now.

I'm sorry none of my help worked =/ very weird that yours doesn't want to charge at all, but others who ran out of battery did. Like I will say at the end of this, all phones are acting pretty different. If you walk in to Verizon Wireless and give them and just tell them it was updating and it bricked, you will walk out with a refurbished "new" phone no questions asked. (That's has been my case the last and only 2 times I bricked my very first Droid and had no idea of AP Fastboot or what to do, then I learned to be careful with things like these, it really sucks when you're bricked.

after selecting option 1 how long does it take after pressing any button and it says "sending 'mbm' <512 KB>" does it take to complete?

Shouldn't be more than a minute or two, its just 512kb, so no more than 2 minutes for ADB. What's your status now?

It appears my home and search buttons aren't doing anything so now I just have to keep hitting back to get to the home screen. DovI need to reinstall or maybe try a system restore since technically ICS is already? Other than this, i'm in love with it.

Very weird, but not an unknown bug, has been talked about somewhere. Make sure to back everything up and do a system restore. Let me know what happens.

My battery went low when i was going from the first ics leak back to gb. What i did was run Matts Utility(1.6 at the time) on the computer and put my phone on the charger, then connect the phone to the computer and run a step, after that steps done unhook the phone from the computer and back up to the charger, wait til it says "battery ok" and connect it back to the computer and run the next step. And just continue until steps are done. Worked perfectly for me...good luck

From what I read, your phone said "Too low to program", you left it on that screen charging and it said "Battery Ok" eventually? There was also no sign of it charging correct?

Long time lurker, finally registered because I tried to update my phone through this post... Bad luck. Please help guys.

I have the Droid Razr Utility, I have the OTA update. Can someone PLEASE help me get this sucker to charge so I can try to flash again? What am I doing wrong?

You will have to get the phone to charge if you want to flash it, get it charged up then you can try AP Fastbooting again, or else you'll keep getting that error.

in the mean time if anyone knows how i can get my phone into recovery or fastboot from the moto logo that would be great

Look at my OP, and look at the very bottom, follow the directions to get into Fastboot

Alright. Ive successfully run Matts 1.7 and try to install and keep getting error 7. What am I forgetting?

I also have the new recovery this time around.

Since you're in the ICS recovery it should work as soon as you try to install ICS again (Following the same steps), what is the exact Status 7 error you are getting?

Well actually I already tried long pressing both buttons for up to about 10 to 12 seconds and nothing happens. I can't believe I possibly have to hold them that long. So anyone else reading this, if you know why my home and search buttons do absolutely NOTHING now that I've flashed this OTA via sd card, PLEASE HELP!!! I swear having to use the back button to get back to the home screens is already driving me almost as crazy as I went trying to get the update flash to work itself. Any suggestions?

Backup everything on your phone and Restore it.

Well, after about 15 attempts, I think I am done trying. I keep getting attempt failed on the OTA zip. I guess I will just wait till I get the push.
One question: When I get the OTA, Can I use Voodoo Rootkepper and keep root?

Are you back on GB at least? And yes you can do Rootkeeper on the OTA once it gets pushed to your phone, that's what I did and it kept root.

Ummm... so am I like the ONLY PERSON who's home and search buttons do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING even when being long pressed after applying this ICS flash via SD card?

#edit

Okay, so I did a re-install, then a factory reset/date wipe, then "wipe cache" and this time there are no issues. All buttons are working. I swear, I've never had to work this hard for desert in my entire life.:icon_ banana:

HA! I don't think any of us have, enjoy your ICS desert!

I downloaded blur from beginning of op. I then copied it to blur folder on my sd card... wiped cache then rebooted wiped cache again rebooted... then booted from sd card got same errors as everyone else 7 and 0..... tried again wiping cache and rebooting x2. Tried again got errors again so i tried third time then decided to unplug my phone from charger. Did my wipes and reboots then loaded from sd card got further than before got error wiped and rebooted x2 and loaded again and sucess!! I hope that this helps someone... hang in there.

Perfect! Thanks for sharing the problem you were having and your fix for it!! I hope you enjoy ICS, like I have said, it might take 2, 3, 4 or even 5 times to clearing cache, and doing a reboot cycle.

Thanks worked flawlessly the first time Stock not rooted

dancedroid Beautiful, this is what I meant, some people have no problems at all. There's a reason half these problems are happening, and I really think it's a user error, I won't stop until I find what is causing most of these errors. Have fun with ICS!!

Curious if you can temporarily un-root with Voodoo and have this work?

It SHOULD. To be 10000% sure just unroot and re-root, but there's no reason for it not to. Second time I applied ICS upgrade ONTOP of my currect ICS, I was rooted and it went through, but it just took my root away and I just restored it. DO NOT TRY THAT THOUGH, if anything, unroot first. Also make sure you have no frozen apps or mods please.

Hi,
You wrote: If you are rooted, unroot.
Before I take even one step, what procedure do I use to unroot? Thanks.

Market VooDoo Rootkeeper, save root button, then temp. root button. Then follow the guide, make sure you backed up and have 100% battery, please!

Ok im trying matts utility had to wait for it to finish downloading. Now im stuck at waiting for device. Im not certain how long it takes but its been 5 minutes.

Now I know im not in AP fastboot. I cant get to the recovery to select that. Holding the buttons for recovery just loops back to the M screen.

Nothing will happen while your in Matt's utility and your NOT on fastboot. Look at bottom of my OP, it will show you how to get in AP Fastboot mode.

More replies on the way! Just wanted to get these out for now.

Still no Home or Search buttion functionality...help?

This forum and thread saved me, thanks to everyone who posted their experiences. I was dead in the water last night.

I think my problem was related to full device encryption and a separate device administrator we impose on corporate email.

I am officially on ICS, with my only issue so far being that the Home and Search buttons don't work. I can feel the heptic feedback, but the buttons don't do a thing.

EDIT - looks like my car dock and HD dock don't recognize the phone when docking...

Any suggestions?

- JC

[h=1]So I read that the dropbox is down, but when I try the other link, it looks like it may be down as well:
