"Official" Beautiful Widgets Skinning Thread

Whenever I go to configure the weather widget, the GPS stays on even after I press back to go to the home screen. I also tried to turn off gps in settings and back on yet the gps still shows up in the notification bar.

Is this a bug? :( The only way to get it to stay off is to reboot the phone.

I've been noticing this also, but mine eventually goes off. But it does seem like it's staying on longer than normal. Not sure what's causing it. Make sure to notify Tama about it.
The only way to get it to stay off is to reboot the phone. <-- I meant my only option is to disable it but don't want to do that.

btw, it's on 2.1. This didn't happen on 2.01.

Yeah I know what you mean btw how long did you let it run? I did a test when I was noticing the gps problem and I waited like 5 minutes before it finally closed. Weird thing is it hasn't happened since, I'm also on 2.1. So I wondering maybe it's just a one time thing?

Must ask -- the only thing holding me back from getting this is i hear it really drains the battery. Is this the norm?

I have the 2.1 update and am running HelixLauncher with 5 screens. (I assume this works with Helix Launcher).

It works fine with HelixLauncher and I have this widget on my homescreen at all times and never notice battery drain. I have mine set to refresh every... 2 hours I think? If you wanted to, you could make it update less often to increase battery even more.

The only way BW is gonna drain your battery in any noticable way is when you first get it and play with it all the time. Once you settle down and just use it normally it will barely ever even show in the battery usage at even 1%, IF at all... unless you have it set to refresh every 15 mins.

One of the brilliant things about Tama's (LevelUp Studio) coding is he knows how to create a proper Android app. IF you notice other similar apps will stay active in your "Running Services" (Weather Widget, Pure Messenger, Pure Calender are just a few I can recall at the moment) all the time.. BUT Tama's Beautiful Widgets and even Touiteur will NOT! I have even watched the Running Services screen and saw each of his apps pop up long enough to do the scheduled refresh and then disappear while the others stay active. IMHO, this shows me a lot about who really knows what they are doing and those that don't. This is also why I personally support his apps, we need more Devs like that.

I'd like to add that BW has two methods for doing it's weather: by a pre-selected zip code and by geo-location.

And we all know that if you select geo-location it's going to invoke your GPS to track where you are, which is a bigger battery drain. I personally just put my home zip code in and I have never had an issue with battery use.

awwwww........no wonder I couldn't find this. Thanks guys.

Update: Seeing as you can't get it for Beautiful Widgets, being trying to edit my own. Here is what I have done so far, but still got a ways to go. Have to fix the numbers from overlapping (Now Fixed), as well as do the landscape mode.

Damn thats real nice, I still have a backed up copy of the old BW.. I tried to get some guy to port over this MM version of BW (exact sense with high def. images) but he kinda disappeared. I would love to see this on my phone ;)

Not sure if any one has noticed but in the last BW update (or the one before that) Tama has added some additional options for Geo-locating.

Basically it appears you can select GPS or Network Coordinates when you use GeoLocations.

That's a useful function. That way you don't have to burn battery using the GPS if you are low on juice.

Yeah, i just got my update over the weekend and have been on the fence on whether or not to get this...not that it is expensive, but do i really need it....but seeing all the different screenshots and the positive posts on it, ill probably end up getting it....

BTW...off topic, but can you do a screenshot with Helix?

One of the few apps I have bought (Bettercut the other) and no regrets.

And unfortunately no screen shot option with Helix. I'm really hoping the add it. If Home++ developers can do it no reason they can't.

Lemme know if you want me to tweak anything, ect.

@ Evilolive; I'm rooted and running a dark smoke themed rom which has the dark, semi-transparent notification window. There are various ways to tweak it if you're rooted, I think, and a few ways to hide it even if you're not.
I'd love this in a transparent version also loaded to BW skins server since I'm not rooted.
