"Official"? Bionic battery life thread

How's GPS on the bionic. Anybody have complaints about it?

My thunderbolt one day is great and another it sucks!

I got lost yesterday driving and it would not find my location. Fails during some horrible times.

My GPS is terrible on the Bionic. I need to turn it on and off and then turn on GPS Status and download the A-GPS data and then after 3-4 mins I will get a lock. The GPS on the OG Droid would lock after less than a minute most times.

My GPS locks in a matter of a few seconds. It's incredibly fast and so much better than my original Droid.

Do you have at least Google location services on, in addition to the Standalone GPS services? You can also check VZW location services and see if that helps.

Stock battery is pathetic. With the phone not in use (screen off) but powered up (ready to receive a call) I left it at 11:15 PM with 100% battery. When I checked it at 9:00AM the next morning, the battery was dead. I leave home at 7:00 with a fully charged battery, but with very modest use (no calls, just a few Facebook visits and an dozen e-mails) the battery is at 50% by noon. Turning LTE off doesn't seem to make any difference. Cell standby (32%) and phone idle (28%) tell me who the hog appears to be. Have others seen this?

Took it back to Verizon and they swapped it for me. Bionic #1 heated up (105 degrees) sitting idle, battery life was zippidy do dah, and programs installed to SD vanished after a couple days. Bionic #2 is doing much better: it's 2PM and my stock battery is at 60% with moderate use, so that's much better. Verizon has the extended life battery at half price now which speaks volumes IMHO. They did suggest leaving WiFi and BlueTooth off unless being used actively. Timerriffic handle's that for me. Cell standby and Phone idle still consume the majority of the power by far. Verizon telephone support suggested that installed apps be added to the "auto end" list to reduce power consumption - use Task Manager.

its def a signal issue on the bionic that kills my battery at work yesterday i was out side all day helping my buddie move and through out the day i was checking football scored and texting and so on few phone calls surfing the web i unplugged the phone from the charger at 10 am when i got home at 10 pm 12 hours later the phone was at 75% still thats pretty dam good if u ask me as long as u have good reception

Same here at work I have and had bad signal w every phone I brought to work which would kill the batteries in 4/5 hours .. the bionic w the extended lasts me 8+ hours which im happy not bringing a charger everywhere... plus I have 4g in some places that's insane fast compared to my 1x on the other phones lol

That's fine. But you're saying two different, opposite things. You're disappointed in the battery, yet you acknowledge that you're unwilling to do anything to improve it despite many posts that have proven definitively that the Bionic's battery is extremely efficient with even small changes. Just turning background data off, a mostly transparent change, yiee

It's like someone buying a car that should get 30 MPG, drives foot to the floor all the time and then complains why they only get 20 MPG.

I don't have an issue with you choosing not to effect any of these changes that have been suggested. But then don't complain about the battery. At least magi25jj is open about their usage and doesn't throw complaints about the battery; they acknowledge it's their usage that makes the battery less than optimal, and they bought extra batteries to compensate. 8 hours on the extended battery is telling.
Revelated I wasnt really complaing about the battery life just think it sucks If you wanna talk cars does your car battery run out of charge after 6 or 8 hrs. I dont think so. Do you dim your lights at night to save battery? Of course not. I no the limitations of my battery and I choose to push it to the limitsbut it should better. I must admire your persistance you are good for this thread. THANKS
?

10 hours now 70% left wifi on all day. Voice calls for an hour plus email and texting and running an instant message program.

Not bad.

Shut the car off and leave all the lights on.. probably will have a dead battery lol... but 2 ppl with the same car will have different mpg... depends how u drive... I use my phone all the time so I have less battery life... I will never ever get 24 hours out of a battery unless im sleeping for 16 of those hours lol

I have both google location and standalone GPS services turned on, I have switched VZW off. I suppose I could switch it on and see what happens. Do you have the VZW location services turned on?

Which one is better to keep on...Verizon or google I always kept just google.

My GPS always lets me down at the worst times. When I don't need it too much it works fine though, and it locks within literally three seconds.

Question...I'm getting about 8-9 hours on a standard battery.. I have Wifi and GPS off but I have bluetooth, all my instant messaging apps, Gtalk,Yahoo,AIm, and 2 emails syncing every hour on...I want to know does this sound normal or should i have it checked out??

That sounds normal to me. I was getting about the same on the standard battery. Extended will get you at least 16 hr.

I dont know what the hell I did wrong but my battery life isnt good at all, after 3 hours of moderate use im at 46% after a full charge -_-, im not good with this battery tweaking thing =(

^ Just think about all the things that you don't use constantly.
I, for instance, don't need push notifications for FB, Gmail or anything else, so I have Background Data [DISABLED]. This is a HUGE battery saver in itself.
There are a myriad of settings that have implications on battery life, but background data is one of the biggest ones.

Things like GPS don't need to be on if you don't use Navigation, etc. All you really need to do is go through ALL of your settings and turn off what you know you're not using.

By far, though, the biggest battery increase was when I just set the dang thing down and quit messing around with it. I was like everyone else, always playing with it, forever changing the looks, adding apps, etc. But when I just quit messing constantly and let it sit when I didn't need to do something, my battery life increased exponentially.

Good luck!

I'm trying to get Verizon to send me a free upgrade from tb to bionic.

Just want to make sure though that GPS won't be a problem or battery. Definitely can't be worse than tb but the tb has been good lately even stock.
