[Official] CPU Temp Results

Yes the kernels are just loaded and replace your current kernel. Kernels are INDEPENDENT from the rom.

As to the stupidity about the batteries exploding the battery is rated WELL above what the phone could ever tolerate yet alone produce. Your battery will get far hotter left in your car during the summer or charging while using the GPS then the CPU could ever push it to from over clocking.

Seeing how I brought it up, I will take that as addressed to me.

If the battery gets hot through use or recharging, the pieces of metal can move around, much like grains of rice in a pot of water. If a piece of metal gets too close to the separator, it can puncture the separator and cause a short circuit. There are a few possible scenarios for what can go wrong in the case of a short circuit:
  • If it creates a spark, the flammable liquid can ignite, causing a fire.
  • If it causes the temperature inside the battery to rise rapidly, the battery can explode due to the increased pressure.
  • If it causes the temperature to rise slowly, the battery can melt, and the liquid inside can leak out.
HowStuffWorks "What is causing lithium-ion laptop batteries to catch fire?"

Now, before you go saying how stupid my claims are, use some common sense.

Heat makes things expand. The more heat, the more they expand. When things expand, they move. Common sense tells you what can happen, as does the above quote.

Forget the temps...

I'm just overclocked at 800Mhz and the battery life sucks!!!

I leave my phone plugged in while at work so I'm always at 100%. Last night I went out when I got off work at 10pm (battery at 100%), and this morning when I woke up at 9am my phone was completely dead! I didn't even use my phone AT ALL last night and it didn't even last 11 hrs. :(

Did you use SetCPU's profiles? I have been OCed to 1ghz since the day the kernel became available and haven't had any problems with my battery life.

That sounds like one of the issues others have reported regarding charging overnight (i.e. waking up in the morning to a dead phone). Did you have the phone on the charger at all ?

I don't have profiles set yet.

What are your profiles set to if you don't mind my asking?

I didn't go home last night so I didn't have it on the charger. I was just very surprised to wake up to a completely dead phone after only 11 hours of my phone basically sleeping.

You need to carry a charger or a spare battery or shut down your phone overnight.

My Profiles (running 1.1Ghz):

Charging 550 max 250 min
Sleep 250 max 250 min
Power <33% 550 max 250 min
Failsafe >48C 550 max 250 min

THERE IS NOW A KERNEL THAT ALLOWS ACCESS TO THE CPU TEMP MONITOR!
AllDroid - View topic - [Release] TazKernel 1.3GHz and TempMonitor Reborn (02/06/10)

and the latest version of TempMonitor works with it and will now show ACTUAL CPU TEMPS

So how exactly would I add this without messing up anything else I currently have?

There are directions on that page for using the nandroid zip of their kernel. I used it with my Bugless Beast 7.4 rom and it's working great. Well, the 1.3 did not work, but 1.1 is working.

Sorry I'm still new to all this stuff. So you're saying if we already have 0.7.4 BB then all we have to do is use the nandroid backup thing?

I want to stay at 800mhz but I just want that cpu temp.
