OFFICIAL Droid X Issues/Problem Thread

oh ok, makes sense when put that way. thanks for clearing that up. Mine seems to be working well today too.

I must say that this battery is at 15% and has been off the charger for over 24 hours now.... not bad! and I have been using it to text and made a few long calls in that 24+ hours. I am rather impressed.... so, should I let it drain itself dry one more time and charge it full before I start charging it at 15%-20% or should I start that now and not worry about draining it dry after the update. it got down to 5% after the update and got hooked to the charge after lasting only just under 10 hours... what's everyone's thoughts. I know there are extensive threads on here about the battery life, but honestly, I am still slightly confused as to what is the best method to choose since the update. Thanks in advance

I reported a problem with my Droid X display, just like it was suggesed, and was told that they would ship me a replacement on or after August 3. In addition, they'd charge my credit card, and refund the charge when they received my problem-phone. This doesn't sound to me like Verizon and Motorola are handling the problems... I just switched over from AT&T last Friday (when I received my new Droid X). I got two of them. They are great phones, but I'm thinking of canceling my service and returning to AT&T. Their network isn't as good, but the stand behind their phones!

Wow, that surprises me that they are charging you and then will refund after they receive your broken phone. They used to always charge you if they didn't receive the broken phone within 7-10 days, not before! They must have gotten burned somehow by people or something and now need to protect their assets or something?

Sorry to hear you want to go back to AT&T, I switched from Verizon to AT&T, they screwed me over for three months on a data plan, charged my account for charges that weren't mine and wouldn't correct the billing errors, so I went back to verizon and had to fight with AT&T for 6 months afterwards to clear the charges that weren't mine PLUS charges for the months my number was no longer with AT&T because Verizon took it back... finally got through to a manager who saw my point and why I wouldn't pay the charges and cleared the account... took long enough though. they may stand behind their phones, but I think their billing department and CS stink personally... JMO. dancedroid Good luck in whatever you decide though :)

Navigation Data Lost

Took a road trip the day after I pickedup up my new Droid. It is a genuinely spectacular piece of technology; kudos to the dev team!

Have surfaced 3 issues that may bear further scrutiny; would be grateful for any guidance or feedback from the forum. For convenience, I will cover them in separate posts.

Issue 1: Navigation Data Lost

With Navigation instantiated, an incoming call produces a navigation data lost (or equivalent language) error message. There is a suggestion to continue following the route...with rough positional data supplied by what I would assume is an intertial measurement unit/compass. This is not easy to do -- actually pretty disorienting if it happens (as it did for me) on a freeway interchange.

Any suggestions...thoughts for future S/W drops...?

I also placed an order for a replacement device on Sunday due to the screen flicker issue, and was told the same information by a CSR. When I called back to verify some information yesterday and today, I was told that I have 10 days to return the phone before I get charged, which is normal practice for an exchange. So I would actually wait and see if they actually do charge your CC. Thats what I am doing, because every other phone exchange I have done as been under the whole 10 day policy.

Elusive Navigation Application

Road trip Issue No. 2:

With Navigation instantiated, launching/task switching (e.g. Music, FM, Calendar) often makes it hard to return to Navigation. In fact, Navigation sometimes disappears from the Task List...although audible navigation continues. Re-establishing Navigation display requires re-entering the destination, searching and selecting.

Am I missing something simple here...?

Road Trip Issue No. 3

Issue No. 3: Power Connection in Auto Docking Station

The Auto Docking Station is intended to work with a standard X case (e.g. the belt holster case) or, with the addition of a snap-in spacer, with a Droid X by itself.

Using the holster case, the phone, in facts, fits in...the Auto Application (a big type interface) appears, however, no power is delivered to the unit. I couldn't figure out why the unit, in the auto docking station, kept closing its display; this turned out to be the reason.

Is this a production tolerance issue or accessories compatibility issue? Workaround, BTW, is to use a pouch-type belt case...thus, no phone case.

Thoughts...?

Wait, so your navigation actually paused/stopped when you got an incoming call?! One of my gripes is that it kept going when I got an incoming call... Do you use hands-free bluetooth in your car? Was this after the update?

If your using the Shell/Holster with the Car Dock, its a bit of filing down you have to do. I removed the "clip in spacer" and then had to file down the raised line on the dock by the USB male plug, and THEN had to file down the inside of the dock, on the bottom inside of the face. (if that makes sense) I just kept filing different areas that were "binding" up until the phone sat in there correctly, and the USB male connector inserted all the way.

Also... this might sound dumb, but you never know, once the phone was in the dock, did you flip the top part down to 'lock' it in. (Just asking).

Hope some of this helps... I know it was a bit of work to get mine to work the way it should with the shell.

noisy-static

Does anyone have noisy static on calls?. I really like the phone but call quality sucks. My old razor and chocolate sounded crystal clear. This is my 2nd droid x and they both sound bad. I'm live on long island , NY.

I'm taking back my Iphone4 due to signal in my area low to none but on its camera is a feature that lets you mark your photos with the gPS cordinates. Sounds like what you have. On mine if I turn off that feature it takes pictures fine where no or low signal. Reading all whats going on with the DX I think I'll hold off for a while on getting one and just go back to my regular Verizon phone.

My first problem was found today...
We took our 5yr old to see Toy Story 3 at the theater. After the movie, in the lobby, was a photo op where I was going to take a pic of her in front of a Dispicable Me display. When I went to turn on the camera, It went into camera mode then back to the home screen with a camera being on for only 1 sec. I did this over and over while trying to read the error on the screen...

Error was something like this....
Unable to start camera due to error

I did notice up in the left corner a message that said... Unknown Location

this was probably due to being in the theater with only 1 bar of signal

After leaving and returning home 30mins later... Same problem
after another 30 mins.... Camera worked normally

I think the problem is related to the phone not knowing its location. I had noticed yesterday while shooting a video, it said Jacksonville FL in the upper left corner

OThe Droid X isn't bad, actually quite nice overall, but if you hesitate about it, my advice is to go for an iPhone 4 because no other phone on the market is quite like it!
I switched to Iphone4 and it was great with NO problems except at my house which is less than a mile from their tower I can only get reception upstairs but no in the family room and must rely on WiFi for any internet surfing. Got to take it back this morning as I don't want to keep it to long as there is only a 30 day window before its mine for 2 years.

Hay everyone, new droidX owner here...

Love the phone, it's my first smartphone and it looks like I picked a great time to dive into the market..

Anyway, I love this phone, love it, only problem I'm getting is is has no reception at my house..I get one bar if I'm lucky and thats standing next to a window...

Now, I've been with verizion since 1998 and have never had this issue..My last phone was a basic moto flip phone that had 3-4 (of 4) bars at my house and never dropped a call, this one not so much...Two other basic verizon phones have great signal in the same place..

I have stayed with verizion this long because of the network, resisted getting a eyephone and going to att because I wanted a good signal all the time..It's very frustrating to say the least.

Droid X problems

My X works flawlessly, great signal, no problems. What I do to keep it that way, is to turn the power completely off once a day. Rebooting is the first thing to do to solve any problems you might have.

Regards the signal - and other problems - if the above doesn't solve it, then Verizon tech support (800-922-0204 ) is where to go --- and if that doesn't do it, then Motorola (800-734-5870 ) is next.
