OFFICIAL Droid X Issues/Problem Thread

4th day with the new Droid X.

I've had no problems until today.

When placing or receiving calls, the other person can just barely hear me.
I have to talk directly into the mic and use a loud voice...and then they can't understand most of what I'm saying.

I switch to speaker mode and they have no problems hearing me.

I switch back and they can no longer hear me without talking loudly.

This just started happening today. Up until today, I've had no complaints about being able to hear me.

This problem cleared up the next day.

Now, a week later, yesterday and today I'm having the same issue.
During a call, the other person can not hear me unless I switch to speaker mode.

Does anyone know of a setting that I might be changing?
A way to turn up the in-call mic?

Anyone else experience this and found a way to reset it?

I have rebooted the phone with and without taking the battery out to no avail.

Droid X wifi issue?

Anyone have issues staying connected to wifi? I just switched from a Droid and I have 5 other smart phones in my home that connect to wifi all of the time. The Droid X will connect fine but will then stop sending and receiving data....It still THINKS it has a connection but it doesn't. "forgetting" the wifi settings and reconnecting are the only things that seem to work.

Anyone else seeing this issue?

I've spoken with both Verizon and Motorola. It's a known problem that appears to be showing up due to numerous reasons all software related. Some people get around it by changing their network set-up. For example Verizon wanted me to drop my network back to G (I have my network set for Mixed), as that seemed to help a lot of people, I said no way, I want the N speed from my N devices. Some have gotten around the problem by changing network encryption from AES to TKIP - I tried and it didn't help me. The one thing that did work for me was setting my router to "N-Only" - I can't leave it that way, but at least I can get email and browse the internet over wifi - however there are other devices in my home that need G, so it's not an acceptable fix. Also I've never had a problem connecting to the router - connects almost instantly. However, can't browse or get email. Go figure.

Motorola and Verizon say a software fix is underway, no promise on when - we could only hope it comes packaged with Froyo.

Thanks for this. That's very helpful information, and encouraging.

Tonight while sitting at dinner with my DX in my pocket, screen locked, and nothing touching it but my jeans, it started to vibrate like I had a call coming in. I pulled it out of my pocket, it stopped vibrating, I had a blank screen (homescreen had apps on it and was already customized) and the blue indicator light was on. I was finally able to get to my recent calls - no missed calls, checked text messages, no messages, no emails, no voice mails, NOTHING new that would have caused it to start vibrating like a call coming in. I ended up having to reboot it to get the blue indicator light off. Any ideas anyone? At the time, I was using Launcher Pro Beta for the customization of the homescreen, could that have caused it to start vibrating? The sound was on, so it should have vibrated AND played the ringtone if there was truly a call coming in, but it just vibrated. Any help greatly appreciated. I uninstalled LP to see if it was that, since it hadnt done this until within an hour of downloading LP... figured I would start there and see if it corrected it or if it does it again. Thanks for the help in advance!

I couple times I swore I heard/felt a call of message come in and nothing was there. Thought I was losing it a bit.

I noticed this same exact issue. I used the car dock and car charger together from a Verizon store. On a 3 hour drive using the turn-by-turn Nav system my battery was slowly draining.

The next day I tested it by wearing the battery down, then connecting it using the car dock and charger but without using gps and barely even touching it as I drove and sure enough it charged.

I guess with the GPS activated it drains faster than it is charging? This does not seem right.

Try it again w/o the dock and have your charger straight on your phone. I had drained my phone to about 10% and tried using the dock + gps. Phone died completely. I tried again with the charger directly into the phone. It lasted the entire trip and I even ended up with 20%.

I believe that the Dock is somehow limiting the amount of charge the phone is getting (it does charge if you're not using the gps). I exchanged that dock for another. I'll report back if this one is having the same issue.

I've found that sometimes [maybe 1 of 10] times I try and send a text my screen will start to slow [sluggish, only half my presses register] then it becomes unresponsive [none of my touches register].

The Home key still works but when I click to go back to the home pages the screen is still unresponsive.

This also happens when I leave my phone idle, for example, this morning I couldn't turn my alarm off. Or on several occasions I've missed phone calls because I couldn't slide the slider.

The fix: I press the power button to LOCK then I'll slide to unlock the phone. This bring the phone back.

Another issue.

This happens once in a while whether or not my phone is plugged in

My Droid X Problems
work email will not sync (oddly it will sync on the original Droid) All my other emails work ok, my earthlink account works good but my hotmail account sometimes works..

When i hit the phone/call icon when it displays the tabs on top when i hit the contacts tab, Poof! Nothing displays 0 contacts and screen flashed back to home screen.

The phone has deleted all my contacts once...

the whole facebook contacts sync is annoying!

seems that original droid had problems but the replacement seems to be even worse.

Though my friends with the Droid incredible and EVO have had no problems...Seems like HTC has something.

I had to use Touchdown for my exchange email. Works great and I like it allot. Only disapointment is adding a 20 dollar app for what should have been a standard working feature.

Was the phone still in direct sunlight when plugged directly into the car charger? I'm thinking that 100% brightness combined with the navigation app open all the time is causing the phone to draw more current than the typical car charger can supply.

The scenario above was at night time, I was DD for a bunch of drunks

My brightness is always set to the lowest setting that the "Power Control" widget dictates.

The bottom of my screen is jumping and showing images from the top. Anyone else have this issue? I have tried a hard reset but no luck. It worked fine for about 4 hours then it just started acting up. There is a line across the bottom of the screen which is where the problem starts.

Any ideas? I might just have to take it into a store tomorrow but they probably won't have a replacement. Ugh.

This is a known bug in a small percentage of DroidX handsets. Verizon and Motorola have acknowledged the problem and have a fix. Contact a Verizon agent.

Same here

My first problem was found today...
We took our 5yr old to see Toy Story 3 at the theater. After the movie, in the lobby, was a photo op where I was going to take a pic of her in front of a Dispicable Me display. When I went to turn on the camera, It went into camera mode then back to the home screen with a camera being on for only 1 sec. I did this over and over while trying to read the error on the screen...

Error was something like this....
Unable to start camera due to error

I did notice up in the left corner a message that said... Unknown Location

this was probably due to being in the theater with only 1 bar of signal

After leaving and returning home 30mins later... Same problem
after another 30 mins.... Camera worked normally

I think the problem is related to the phone not knowing its location. I had noticed yesterday while shooting a video, it said Jacksonville FL in the upper left corner

Mine did the same, along with phone occasionally rebooting on it's own. Got 2 as part of family plan, the other has the flashy screen problem. Verizon is sending 2 new phones. Ideally I like the phone but I'm not happy with getting 2 faulty ones with 2 different issues.

I have continued to have freeze and lockup issues related to my home wifi. The phone will get into a state where wifi can't be turned off. I have to reboot the phone 3 or 4 times to get it to unfreeze long enough to get wifi turned off. It never has this problem on 3g. I haven't connected to a lot of other wifi's, but what little I have the phone doesn't appear to have these issues. My router is an older Linksys WRK54G. Yesterday, I purchased a Linksys E2000 and took the WRK offline. The phone has not locked up while connected to the E2000. I hope this fixes it, if not the DroidX is going back...

Signal Problems

I have zero reception on this joke of a phone. I can't believe I'm saying I want my Storm 1 back. My house has bad reception to begin with (I live 15 miles out of NYC go figure), but my storm 1 and even my fathers 5+ year old razor work like a charm compared to this overpriced brick. What gives?

I called Verizon they tried every work around they could think of, and nothing. I had to drive 5 miles away just to get any reception whatsoever. Do I escalate it now to the point to ask them to check the antennas in the area?

We had the same problem with my husband's phone (not a Droid). Called the 800 number and the rep had me go through all the phone settings and said everything was correct. Then I took it to the local Verizon store (not just an authorized dealer) and had them check the programming. They found an error in the programming that was specific to our area and said the phone reps weren't aware of the issue. They reprogrammed it with the correct numbers and his phone is working great now!

Verizon employees never hear ANYTHING.

While you guys talk about software I have to take my Droid X back already due to hardware. They sent me a broke as phone!! When I make calls, all I hear every time someone talks is a blown tweeter type annoying ass sound. The wifi doesn't work either!! I have to wait till they get more then I get to turn it in for a new one at the local store. I'm not to mad but it still sucks. The only cure will be if someone finds out how to root the X around the so called "eFuse" we're hearing so much about. If it doesn't get root in the next 30 days, I'm taking mine back for sure. So much for waiting up and ordering at midnight hey?
This is my 2nd phone. I hear a hissing noise in the backround when people speak. Verizon employee said it sounded fine to him. Someone else told me the same thing on their phone.
