[Official] R2-D2 [D2] Owners Thread

R2-d2

Proud R2-D2 droid owner, and also new to the Droid 2 as well.

However, I broke my screen after accidentally dropping it. :-(
Anyone know if I can find a new one for sale? I checked eBay but nothing.

Anyway. New to the board and looking forward to posting more.

Here is my R2D2 Global. I swapped over the case from a broken R2D2 and made my Global into an R2 unit. I need to swap over the other half of the case so that the keyboard section is white too.

OK, now that all the D2 owners are getting Gingerbread..........when are WE getting it? Dang it, I want my GINGERBREAD!!!!

No reason we can't, if there's an SBF or flashable ZIP (I'm a little behind as I've been busy with work all week, so I don't really know what's available).

I've got a Droid R2D2 and have been on a custom rom for months. I SBF back to stock Froyo for the update. It worked like a charm, then I updated it back to CM7GB. Yeah, you lose the R2D2 stuff but that can be added back. Mingaldrichgan, I used your zip to get back the sounds. That's really all I cared for. I got tired of keeping everything Star Wars and just wanted to keep the ringtone/notification tones. http://www.droidforums.net/forum/members/157557.html

Since I'm not rooted, ask I have to do is root and set it back to a speck froyo? Sorry guys, I've read thru the process of rooting, so I'm confident I can do it, I just want to make sure I got my plan of attack set

Sent from my DROID2 using DroidForums

You'll have to SBF, which can be done without rooting. I believe there's a link on the first page of this thread to instructions on how to SBF.

holy crap, I just looked at my post "ask I have to do is root and set it back to a speck froyo? " I swear I proofed it on my phone before I hit submit. It didn't look that way on my phone:)

I will look up the SBF instructions and see what I can do, thanks for the help

No worries on the grammar. We all do it. There are multiple ways to SBF. I used RSD Lite and a stock Froyo file. There is also an all-in-one method with a Linux live CD/USB. The RSD Lite was very easy. Basically install it and drivers, attach the file, connect phone and hit start. Let it do it's thing and your back to stock. Then update the phone and, if you so choose, install a custom rom. I used Liberty for quite a while but CM7 is lightning fast and awesome. Or you could just keep it stock after the Gingerbread update, I hear it's pretty fast as is.

Just put this info in another thread, thought it was worth re-posting here.

Gingerbread Update in the Works for the Motorola Droid R2-D2?

Looks like we will be getting Gingerbread. Found some forum posts as well that say Motorola is testing Gingerbread on the R2D2 to make sure that all the R2D2 specific add-ins continue to work. A rumor mill post (so take this with a grain of salt) said that they are adding some extras to celebrate the Blu-Ray release of Star Wars. I wouldn't count on that, but heck, it's fun to dream.

I made a back up as soon as i rooted using clockwork and the droid 2 bootstrapper, Im working on restoring my system to stock using that backup. What all "rooted info" do i need to remove before i unroot to ensure i can get the update?
