[Official] R2-D2 [D2] Owners Thread

R2D2 owner (with issues) checking in. Phone has been rebooting on its own seemingly randomly.

All the details: Droid R2D2 Keeps Rebooting - Android Forums
(cross-posting to another forum, what an awesome forum faux paux)

I've given up on it for now after reading about the 2.4.5 firmware issues. I hope VZW fixes this **** so I don't have to root sooner than I wanted to. This is my first Android device. I came from about 7 generations of Blackberry before this.

Beyond the occasional involuntary powercycle - I love the device.

I have, except mine is 7 hours behind. It shows on handcent and droid messager.

Thanks...so looks like this is something off in the stock OTA ROM.

The issue has something to do with the bin of 2:4:0 and 2:4:5 thats why I still run the leaked 2:3:15 and apply an r2d2 theme over it the issue is not with the rom but a command in the/ system/bin file

I've tested this over and over and 2.4.5 is the newest official release and id like to be using that as my starting point, but im a handcent user and it doesn't work for me. Either way I've narrowed it down to the system/bin

IF it is something in system/bin then it has to be related to the D2 conversations.apk file or some other file cause I do not have this problem running the Android SMS package.

If someone would try the 2.3.15 conversation.apk in the 2.4.5 ROM to see if they have the same problem it may help narrow the problem down even further.

Mine has been rebooting on its own. I want to say it was because of the class 2 16bg Micro SD card, as the symptom is quite a bit less frequent since switching to the 8gb card that came with it.

All the details.

Beyond that issue I love this thing. I just hope VZW puts out a fix so I don't have to diddle with the OS sooner than I wanted to.

Some pictures of the device.

I've had my D1 16GB card in my D2 since the day I got it - zero reboot issues.

now running 2.4.5 ROM based on the R2D2 release and no rebooting there, either.

If it is the card, your issues would likely be fixed by formatting the card and then putting your files back on it again. Have you tried that?

If issues persist, there's always the possibility that there is a physical issue with the card itself...

I'd also suggest a factory reset as a troubleshooting option - a surprisingly wide range of issues get fixed by factory resets...

I can give it a shot, I think I have the 2.3.15 ROM on my PC...so you're saying that replacing that apk will fix the offset in Handcent and other 3rd party apps?

I formatted the card with the device when I first put it in there. I will try the factory wipe saturday and see how it runs this weekend. I'm not too worried about it. Either hardware issue and replace the device or software issue that will be patched by VZW (yea right).

I'll keep y'all posted. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks...I'd do both...try another format, and also do the reset.

If that doesn't fix it then get VZW to give you a new phone... :)

Loaded conversation.apk from 2.3.15, set permissions, and rebooted. Asked a buddy to text me and the time listed in Handcent and in LPP Messages widget is 8:10 AM when it was actually 3:10 PM, so 7 hour difference.

Time shown in stock text messaging app is accurate -- 3:10 PM.

Next? :)

Mine has worked flawless the issue your going to have is the 4.5.0 system/bin is already on there so to fix that your going to have to go back to stock then apply or an old nandroid that is not r2 d2. I have tested this exstensively and this is the reason it is not my base.

I realize it doesn't make sense but this was the behavior on my phone

But I think the easiest way would be to change it to conversations.bak . I Just loaded the 2.4.0 leak and that fixes it or at least it is right now

If I had a R2D2 I'd avoid loading ROMs for now - if you get stuck at the M logo and can't get to Clockwork recovery, you won't be able to recover the phone.

I have to get to the States first, I’m in a Galaxy far far Away (stationed in Japan) should be in the stats in about 30 days hope they still have some

Picked up my R2 a few days ago, finally rooted and installed clockword mod with only a few minor troubles....so far though I love this phone as much as the original droid...and it was hard for me to put that one to rest. I know there aren't any roms out specifically for the R2 droid, but is there a way I can modify some of the files myself? Such as the framework for the status bar...not a big fan of the white bar.

had my astromech mailed to me last week. im constantly talking back to it like luke or obi wan every time it buzzes and whistles. the sounds are great yet im pretty sure my gf is gonna dump me within a week if i keep talking back to it.

i had a blackberry for a long time, (originally the curve then the storm 2) and was waiting for a long time to finally get a droid and when i saw r2 i just couldnt resist. its my first droid and i was originally kinda upset because i was unaware of the lack of options as far as the themes went. i love star wars and all but i figured if i ever got tired of the r2 theme id just slap a cover on change the theme... not so fast eh.

next thing i know im online researching message boards, reading about roots and roms and metamorphs (all of which i had no idea even exististed 4 days ago) and now im officially rooted with super human... errr i mean super user abilities.

i guess the jist of what im getting at here is Thank You, for sucking me down the rabbit hole. ive had so much fun with my astromech and the future apparently holds even more fun opportunities. everybody on all these boards seem ridiculously nice and helpful, especially to newcomers which in past experience tend to be short on patience with new guys.

thanks for all the help and hard work.- and may the force be with u
