So what is this about lower voltage kernels making your CPU run hotter?

I thought the lower the voltage, the cooler the temps and the longer the battery life. I have to admit that my understanding of kernels is lacking, but with my limited knowledge it doesn't make sense to me that by using less juice from the battery you would run hotter temps and/or decrease battery life.

Has anyone had issues restoring their text messages? I used SMS Backup and Restore and it completed successfully, but every time I try to open a restored thread, the app crashes and I need to reboot the phone.

I also tried using WaveSecure to restore, and it finished successfully, but same issue. I can't access any threads without a crash.

I've seen a lot of responses about the kernals and setPCU - has anyone had any similar issues around restoring texts?

I've always used MyBackup to restore SMS, MMS, Call Logs, Bookmarks, user dictionary, system settings, and home screen layouts. No issues whatsoever.

not always true. If you have too low of voltage, your CPU works overtime to meet the demands you put it through...and can actually lead to lowered battery life, and higher temps. If this was the case, the person needs to try the LV kernel....rather than the ulv.

My phone wont even use ULV kernels anymore...it freezes as soon as I start opening apps etc. Requiring a battery pull

I restored my SMS threads with SMS Backup and Restore, and I'm not having any trouble with crashes. So there must be something else wrong.

You might try going into Manage Applications > All, and then do a "clear data" on the "Messaging" app, and then re-do the SMS restore.

Yup...the only low voltage I've been able to run is slayhers so far...and I don't max it out either...keep it at 1100 tops. The chevy's for me have always worked better at med voltage...I can let those rip at 1200 and get good battery life without getting hot. I do lv chevy and it gets warm and starts complaining.
It is really a 'your mileage will vary' thing...sometimes things fit just right...

I haven't experienced any of that with my ULV kernel but I'll take your word for it. I've only had system freezes when attempting to use 1.25 GHz kernels of any voltage.

I'm also running a Chevy ULV kernel with no problems.

I'm running the 1ghz ulv Chevy kernel and I am not having any issues with it. I was running the 1ghz slayher v1.6 lv kernel and didn't have any issues with that either. I don't ever use a kernel over 1ghz. Don't really see the use in it when my phone runs smooth at 1ghz. Getting great battery life too.

Sent from a galaxy far far away.....

i like running Slayhers 1.25 or whatever his fastest is, then doing the Quadrant benchmark and Linepack scores comparing mine to peoples at work... really annoys people that mine is so fast compared to theirs...

He hasn't been on, so he's either working on it or something else has come up. Important that is.

yeah...my point was not that the ULV wont work on others phones. Of course it will.

The thing is...when finding your phones top speed/lowest voltage...you usually start out with a mv or lv kernel.

The ULV kernel is not for everyone.

It has to do with failed read/writes of the on board memory. The ECC is constantly monitoring for this situation. If it finds bad read/writes, it will constantly correct and you will notice three things based on severity. Heat, lag, and battery life. -Skull One

I wasnt trying to imply the kernel is bad...or it wont work with MIUI or any other rom...my point was that MY PHONE freezes with ULV kernels. I experienced this when I was on UD8 and ss4.8 as well.

Its all about finding the top speed and lowest voltage of your phone. Please dont assume that because I had a problem using ulv kernels...that YOU will...or that the kernel sucks...thats not what I mean at all. I was just sharing my experience with my phone trying to run ulv.
