Official "Unimpressed/Skeptical " Thread

Yep. Quad-band GSM, Dual-band WCDMA, Dual-band CDMA, HSDPA, and LTE.

Hardware is world phone capable. But I had understood that vzw had locked it down. I think the same thing happened with the Bionic...?

have any of the leaks shown a vzw document that explicitly calls it a "world" or "global" phone - using one of those words - as a 'feature'?
Not that I'm aware of...but the Droid 3 wasn't really marketed as a global phone either and it has global capability.

I know you're aware of the pics of the D4 under the back cover posted - and then removed? - on the pre-release thread. Whatever they're hiding, there was a lot of text in that photo that was fuzzy and hard to read. I didn't see anything that I could make out that seemed to relate to a world phone.

If that pic was from a RAZR, I hope it's not the same camera on the D4!

It's one thing not to hype a D3 as global; it's quite another to go to these kinds of lengths to hide it on a D4.

If the vzw designated "tester" can't find a GSM sim card slot, there probably isn't one. I don't think the GSM radio will be functional at all, anywhere.

The leaked specs indicate that a quadband GSM radio is in the device, so it's possible that GSM and LTE occupy the same SIM slot. Just speculating, but it just doesn't make sense to me for Motorola to include a GSM radio and then not have a GSM SIM slot.

Hopefully we'll find out on Thursday.

The EXIF data indicates the photo was taken with an iPhone 4.

maybe the tester doesnt know what they are looking for in a gsm card it i possible they are just part of motorola or friends with someone. my buddy was a tester for one of the iphones didnt know crap just had a buddy that was on the build team from college.... just a thought

Got a few random questions lol doesn't it seem they are spitting out Droid phones faster than they can sell them? #2. I have a og Droid and my led light stopped working is it broke or do I need to flash something? #3. Have y'all seen galaxy s3 phone with 2 touch screens? It going on Verizon?

Agreed, no sense. But it makes no sense to put a non-removable battery in a 1st generation LTE handset, either. More so, when it yields no functional benefit beyond aesthetics. Sometimes I think vzw makes sense only to itself.

I haven't ever done it, but to use a world phone outside the US don't you get a GSM sim card from a carrier in that country and put it in your phone? Won't work that way w/o a separate GSM slot for it.

Edit: This early post from the D4 pre-release thread might bear on the "global" question:
...
And as for the reason for any hold ups, in a single word: Verizon. According info gathered "Moto wants to make world phones and Verizon doesn't want that"

...

1 - it can seem that way. Wiki shows the release dates of the "Droid" line. However, most of these are different. Some have keyboards and some are made differently. The D4 seems to be ealier because the D3 was just released.
The Main Droid lines were released within a year of each other. So not too soon.
D1 - October 2009
D2 - Aug 2010
D3 - July 2012

Also I'm sure you're just thinking of the Droid lines, not just Android phones, of which there are a LOT. List here on Wiki. Not all Android phones are Droids and but all Droids are Androids... ;)

2 - not sure. Maybe post this as a separate question under the General Droid or Tech Help section. It could be broke. My home button doesn't work, nor my swipe lock.

3 - haven't even heard of this phone. There was another one like it on Sprint, if it's what I'm thinking. I don't think I would want 2 screens, I don't like touch keyboards, hence why I'm waiting for the D4, so having a bottom screen become the keyboard wouldn't interest me.

I'm with Corey on this one. His stated point is about unsold phones, not timing or how well the releases mesh. All these release delays certainly could be, as some (me 4 1) suspect, about not being able to clear out the RAZR inventory.
The D3 bogo is another case in point. Vzw is giving away a lot of phones lately.

Also, by the (corrected) timescale above, the D4 isn't due before Summer 2012, which was the speculation on the D3 pre-release thread. Now this acceleration has us kind of expecting the D5 by next Fall or before.

If the droid 4 is indeed delayed, I still need to get a new phone next week. Any suggestions on that? I like the RAZR but don't like the non-removable battery, like the Rezound but don't like the crappy battery life or tank-like feel, like the Galaxy Nexus but don't like Samsung phones, like the Bionic but don't like all the bugs, like the Droid 3 but don't like non-4g and so-so specs including display. I know I may sound picky but any help would be welcome. I also think it would be easier to PM me rather than blow this thread up with stuff; just thought this one was the most logical placement for such an inquiry. Thanks! :D
