One of the biggest selling points for me GONE... HDMI out

Maybe that evo can rock a CRT tv....only if they had HDMI in's....X wins IMO because of the omap capabilities, and I hear the EVO is crippled to 30 fps because of the "famous" snapdragon? What do you think?

1. CRT + HDMI - You can do this with some receivers as long as it's not HDCP-protected content!
2. OMAP - Yes, totally agree.
3. The 30fps issue is a bug that is about ready to be fixed by a hack. Depending on what revision of the Evo you have, it may already be fixed. I believe rev 003 has it fixed but 002 is still in the works. So what you hear is wrong about the 30fps issue - they get it up to around 60fps once the hack is applied.

Why are so many people on these forums bashing the Snapdragon? The 30 FPS limit on the Evo was never due to that processor. The GPU that HTC & co. have been bundling with it is kind of weak, but that's not the fault of the processor...?

I agree. I think the Snapdragon does get a bit too much crap from people who don't know what the Snapdragon's value is. However, it is true that it performs slower than the other newer 1GHz processors.

What the Snapdragon's true value lies with is a) being able to be multi-core (the other A8-based processors cannot) and b) the additional features that are built-in (this is a good article to learn some about this) therefore saving money in the build of the phone. So this means that the manufacturer can squeak in a couple other features for the same cost as the other manufacturers who are not using the Snapdragon. This is why you see the Evo with the most impressive featureset and why the other competitors appear worse on paper (until you consider the non-obvious things, at least).

Yeah, HDMI to anything is possible, but without a digital display it would be counter productive. Though, good point, it can be done...
I am glad you agree about the OMAP processors (that tells me you are informed.) The snap dragon will eventually be able to duo core, but that chip isn't out yet, just as the omap 4 will. I am pretty sure the low fps of the snapdragon is more than a hack (though it may be just a simple script?) Dunno, but this article says HTC has no comment HTC EVO 4G crippled to 30 FPS despite 1GHz Snapdragon (Phone Arena News)
I am going to get back on topic here...Nothing about the HDMI on the X is sub-par IMO, and those that think phones are popcorn media centers need to wait a little, lol. We are not there, but will be soon

Agreed, this generation phones will not be the awesome media centers we all want. However, it sure would be nice if they could be half-assed media centers, though! And I think THAT is what most are expecting. We'll just have to wait and see if that's possible, though...

How big a SD card has this thing got again? Reason I ask is I have two TiVo's at home and a one hour high definition show usually 5-7 gb long. So a movie would run probably at least 15 gb in 720p HD.

No they are not. A 720p movie is around 8gb if it is encoded in DTS. I dl A LOT. lol.

15gb is more like a 1080p.

Just go on a torrent site to lok at sizes. Your dvr just likes to waste your space.

Ripping a Standard DVD is between 5GB-7GB, Blu-Ray is between 50GB-70GB.

And when you compress it to H.264 it becomes 600mb - 700mb for a DVD and if you down convert a blu-ray to 720p you can get it to 3.7gb - 4.3gb.

That being said, i would put $5 on the reason for this is because the droid x (probably) won't do hdcp.

You don't get how re-encoding video works...I could make a video 60 minutes long, with the H.264 codec, that is 500GB in size if I wanted to. It's all about the bitrate you use, not the codec. Resolution affects it too, but the main thing is bitrate; and plenty of Blu-ray movies are not even 10GB in size on the full disc, just FYI. (50GB cap on Blu-ray dual-layer discs, to boot)

Of course it is all about bit rate, but I was trying to keep things simple. More efficient encoding algorithms (such as h.264) allow you to get the same quality video with a lower bit rate.

On a further note, when ripping from a DVD, a lot of people remove excess audio tracks to reduce the file size.
