OverClocking 101

Skull One,
I set my SetCPU as close to yours as possible. I cant duplicate because I only have 5 slots. I have my Max set to 1.1 yet th icon now shows 700mhz. when I hit the refresh button, the scaling on demand says I am doing 700 mhz (in green font upper right hand corner). I notice that my MFLOP and Quadrant scores are all down......Any ideas? Thanks, Marc

Skull One,
I just decided to play with P3s low series kernel (125mhz). The description on his website says the slots are as follows:

125/300/500/700/900/1050/1250

but once loaded I get the following:
125/400/500/600/800/1000/1250

I still lock up at 1250 but was hoping to give things a while at 1050.....Any idea why I can't follow P3s scale?

Thanks,
Marc

With Froyo, is it still recommended to lower setcpu's max when running Google's Maps Navigator due to running the battery down quickly and running the temperature up? I know you can set a temperature profile, but I'm guessing it will eat a chunk of battery up prior to reach the temperature setting? My battery profile doesn't kick in until 50%.

On a similar note, I took a lot of photos yesterday, and I have PicPush installed which auto uploads the photos to Picasa. Phone got extremely hot until the temperature profile kicked in. I am running Temp>45.8, 700/250. The 3G signal was dropping out/very weak due to being in an auditorium which may have been overworking the radio?

I am wondering if I need to lower the max speed prior to using PicPush like I used to (before Froyo) with Google Navigation?

Did you go back into settings>device selection>autodetect speeds after you changed the kernel?

I left the froyo rom because I was getting maybe 4-5 hours of battery life out of P3's rom (second ver). Then I saw your Overclocking 101 post and was very interested in the out come if I used your settings in SetCPU:

Base: 250/1000 OnDemand
Charging: 250/1000 OnDemand
Sleep/Standby: 250/400 OnDemand
Battery < 51%: 250/800 OnDemand
Battery < 31%: 250/600 OnDemand
Battery < 21%: 250/400 OnDemand
Failsafe > 45.8C: 250/600 OnDemand
Advanced: 50000,75,0,0

I went back to the froyo rom (BD version with Chevy's 1ghz kernel-I was told that Chevy's handles the battery better) and used the above settings in SetCPU.

Interesting to see that after charging to 100% last night around 8pm. It's now around 11 am and I've only used up 10% of the battery (using news, youtube, Touiture widgets).

The only thing is that on the SetCPU screen, although I'm using a 1 ghz kernel (and shows I have a 1 ghz installed), it seems to be stuck at 384mhz. The ondemand (upper left corner of the screen) toggles between 250-400 mhz.

Any ideas what's going on here? I don't think it's shot up to 1ghz since I've put this rom on the phone. One thing though is this battery life is really good :). Though I doubt I'm getting the performance of the phone this way.

Thanks.....

Do me a favor and load "System Panel" from the market and tell me if it shows the CPU frequency in the top right adjusting and what it is bouncing between.

I have an issue with SetCPU where it won't do anything till I move the sliders after a reboot. He put out a new version over the weekend, but I haven't tested to see what it changed.

Since I updated to 2.2, Systempanel doesn't show the clock speed anymore, even with the paid version :(

It works on my phone....strange..

I setup my SetCPU advanced setting so it would bounce between 250Mhz and 1250 Mhz, not stops inbetween.

And that is the clue I was looking for. That means SetCPU isn't working. Because SetCPU fixes that issue believe it or not :)

So uninstall SetCPU. Reboot. Install SetCPU. Menu. Device selection. Autodetect. Change min max sliders. Check System Panel.

Loaded System Panel and it bounces between 266-322 mhz. I turned off the display and then turned back on again it maxed out at 400mhz.

I hope that helps....

I uninstalled SetCPU, rebooted and then downloaded it again from the market. Installed and set up per above. Now, it seems to be working. I have included some screen shots for you too.

Skull One, for me this is the most interesting thread on this board. I just updated setcpu to the 1.6.0 version, was using 1.5.1a. On the older version System Panel showed the cpu bouncing from 250 to 800, no stops in between. (mine is set 250 to 800). This new setcpu on System Panel looks more like a tach, it bounces all over, rarely hitting the 800 mark. It looks like the newer setcpu is doing a much better job of managing the cpu than the old one. And it also looks like I really don't need to clock any higher as it's not going to hit that higher mark. All my settings are the same as the older version. Is this what you see as 'normal' behaviour in system panel? Thanks for all your research too ...
