You are probably right, I can imagine the lawsuits when someone needs to call 911 and they can't because their phone was turned off by the carrier without warning.

Phone will always be able to dial out 911 regardless......

I know that's true of disconnected land lines, but is it also true of deactivated cell phones? Anyway, my D1 is still rooted and will likely stay that way but I don't think I will care about rooting the next one.

I seriously doubt it will go that rout but if it did, you're absolutely right. They can ruin your credit.

I've worked in banks for many years and something like this would stay on your credit bureau report for 10 years. Pretty ugly.

But as I said I don't think it's going to be like that. I think what will happen is that they will tell you you're in violation of ToS and then tell you if you don't return the phone back to standard, you will have your service shut off. And if you're in the middle of a contract they will terminate your contract and bill you for the phone.

Dude, I won't go into my financial situation but suffice to say, but I am not concerned in the least.

There isn't much that VZW can do to me because I once tethered to send a 15mb powerpoint file. LOL

All of these idiotic attacks on me for defending tethering, while I really don't even tether, is lame. Especially given the fact that if they kicked me off for tethering, they would also kick off that other knucklehead for rooting and removing bloat.

And if his contract got cancelled, you can bet he would be here crying about it.

And I will larf. Well, I will larf after I get back from the Sprint or AT&T store. ;-)

I do not care about tethering. You tether more than I do. It is very rare to the extent that if it went away tomorrow I would not lose any sleep over it.

My argument is philosophical. Can you wrap your mind around that?

Let's just chill out. I put a warning in one of my post that the result of this rumor is more than likely going to be pointing fingers in wrong directions. This rumor and commotion is causing us to go up against each other in this community when it's not suppose to be like that.

Respect the wishes of the people's decision. Some don't give a hoot what the carriers or manufacturers will do or implement. Some do. Some are reverting back to stock. Some are instilling fear with a new rumor. Some are just carrying on and will continue to do so regardless of what or what will not happen. Some will join in on the fight against VZW and others if something negative happens (like me).

Bottom line... nothing has taken into effect yet. Is in it the works? Possibly. Is tethering, without a plan, bad? That's your respectful opinion and it is stealing. How is it stealing? Think of it as you using someone's phone and calling people all the time and never paying for your own and never telling that person that you're using their phone. But it isn't up to us to judge those because almost all of us are in on it one way or another. I don't tether. But it is ridiculous that this is turning into a verbal war against each other, especially those who tether and don't care and those who have tethered once in a blue moon. Again, it's ridiculous.

Till the day they take that action against us, move on. Keep rooting. Keep providing to the Droid community. And most of all, keep a positive outlook for each other no matter what happens. A big community, with as many people in it together, is better than 1 person doing the positive thing and using their voice to keep VZW and others from closing the door on us if it ever happens.

By the way, is basketball season over? I'm tired of seeing basketball stuff everywhere! Basketball = lame. Haha!
