I'll have to try that... How do I turn it off? And would I still be able to make phone calls and txt?

Settings/Data/mobileData ( )ON (√)OFF.
Always always have it off if u wanna save more battery,(which ever one u dnt use)u can still txt normally /make calls normally while on wifi but ull have to switch to data to get or send mms ..thanks to TIS,i use widgetsolid as my net toggle,so itll be jst pulling dwn the notification(much quicker then goin settings back 2back)..set your smart actions too..to turn off data n wifi when phone is not in use..example of how i got mines:
Extended battery :(Triggers)Display off-not charging-not moving..(Actions)sync(only when i use that app √),screen time 15 secs- wifi off-screen brightness(lowest one)...
Low battery :same settings except "data off"..

You can text and call without WiFi too. There are two separate radios... voice one for calls/text and data one for data. The only way to stop calls and text is by going into airplane mode (turns off the voice radio also). The only limitation, like jaye said, is if you want to send a picture message or if you receive a picture message (mms) you will have to turn on data. Mms doesn't work on WiFi or on the phone's voice radio like text does.

Carol;
Hmm... Let's see... Learn smart actions app... That helps... Turn off 4G when you are in a wifi area.... Change your preferred network type to lte/cdma instead of global SYSTEM SETTINGS>WIRELESS AND NETWORKS >MORE>MOBILENETWORKS>NETWORK MODE
Root alone will not increase your battery life... It used to be that there were some root only apps that could help you out with that... But today's newest generation of smartphones have similar apps to the root only ones pre installed or available without root.... Not to say that rooting isn't fun too!
