Razr vs Bionic?

Played with it last night and hated the feel of it. To wide, to thin and to light.

Thought I was the only one. I had my Droid X in one hand and what felt like air in the other. Now it does lend itself to the design of the phone but I like to feel like I'm holding something. The Razr just feels .... cheap. Hopefully the Galaxy Nexus and Rezound won't feel the same.

I dont know about feeling cheap...lol. I still have my Droid X with me. Weight feels about the same, the RAZR does feel thinner. I wouldnt say it feels cheap. It doesnt feel that much lighter than the Droid X1. If you tap on the back of both phones...the RAZR feels and sounds more solid. Like looking for the solid or open spot on a wall. Just from the back of the phones the RAZR feels more solid.

Someone said the same thing about the Droid X1 tho...feeling cheap. And IMO that phone feel far from cheap.

I did it!

I made the swap today! Thank you RadioShack for your 30 day return policy! This is only made more sweet by the fact my 4G radio on the Bionic crapped out four days ago.

I sat on the fence up until this morning, trying to decide between getting the razr, or outright returning the Bionic, using my OG for however long and waiting to see how the Rezound or G-Nex play out.

The kicker this morning was seeing the ifixit tear down and knowing that the camera part is NOT the camera part used in the Bionic. Couple that with the beautiful pictures people have posted and review videos of the Rezound showing slow shutter speed and this became a no-brainer.

Sure, I wish it came with neat iBeats headphones or ICS, but I already have good headphones and having only switched from IOS to Android when I picked up the OG off Craigslist over the summer, Gbread is keeping me plenty entertained. I can wait.

So...how has the first thirty minutes with my new baby been?

Great! The camera takes excellent photos, very quickly! The whole UI is SO much snappier than the Bionic. I have more bars of 4G than I ever had with the Bionic before the radio crapped out altogether. Switching between airplane mode and out is much quicker as well.

Is there a slight green hue to the screen on low brightness? Hmm. I'm not entirely sure. Perhaps. More than anything, I would say it looks like a phone that you jacked the brightness down on. Most phones screens don't look amazing when you do that. The Bionic was odd, imho, in that I ALWAYS had it on low brightness by virtue of the fact that anything more was eye searing overkill.

Hmm...what else. The screen looks great, but does have a slight screen-doorish thing, similar to the Bionic. The colors and contrast are all better though.

Overall, I'm beyond pleased and I wont regret missing the Rezound or G-Nex.

My only wish at this point is that the left hand of Moto and the right-hand could chat. No need for both the Bionic and the RAZR to be released or developed so closely together and yet be so vastly different in parts quality, software quality, etc. The small tweaks to the UI with the RAZR are much appreciated over the Bionic. The updated version of Swype is appreciated. Having come from the Apple world, I only wish Moto, HTC and Samsung could take a queue from the beast in Cupertino and stop putting out so many phones; start doing fewer, higher quality and longer lasting releases. Polish up Blur, Sense and TouchWiz. Get OTA updates out sooner, updated Android versions, etc.

You basically said what my impressions were in the store. Although I am unable to see the Pentile grid, I found that manually turning up the brightness makes a big difference - you may want to try that.

the only thing i dont like about my bionic design wise is the plastic back. but you pretty much have no choice. if it was made entirely out of metal it would be so heavy. i still havent had a chance to play with the razr yet but i doubt i will like it. My bionic is as thin as i want a phone to be and its around the perfect size too.

I have been played with the razr all morning. I have the smart options on and when I am connected wifi it is not using data. My battery is still at like 70 or 80 percent and it's been off the charger for 6 hours at least almost 7 now. I love this RAZR. Especially now that there is already a root out there. I have rooted my Razr and confirmed it works. I have not had any overheating at all from what I can feel. Even last night when I was using it nonstop.

the bionic is still the best phone verizon has, at least until the galaxy nexus comes out (we'll have to see how well that one works when it comes out, the bionic still may beat it)

the razr: has terrible battery life (a fact of life with 4g radios at the moment), non removable battery, lacking the extra noise canceling microphone causing a drop in call quality, heats up and starts to lag from the overclocked bionic processor and amoled screen with over saturated colors (which both also add to the battery drain on the razr btw), will make you a slave to power outlets etc...

people will run out and buy the razr though, because they think it's better.

Well I bought the Razr today and have played with it HARD since I've had it. I have not experienced any of the problems/issues you have mentioned. Started with40% battery and after 3.5 hours of hard use...non stop...I finally had to put it on the charger. No heat, no lag, no problem. Phone performed superbly. i hope all Razr owners experience the same.

They're both good phones and will have their own quirks. I would still have the Bionic if it wasn't for the data connectivity issue... that's the ONLY reason I wanted to change - that and I worry an OTA might not fix it completely.

One doesn't have to be better than the other, and nobody has to prove to other owners why their phone is better.

The RAZR does have 3 mics, like my Droid X and probably every other high end Moto Android that came after the Droid X1... On the RAZR there is a slit between the flash and speaker, there is a hole at the bottom of the back of the phone, and the front mic we use for speaking...

After 1 day, I thinks its hard to really get a good idea of battery life. Not seeing the other issues either. Yea you can feel heat from the screen, but I havent seen the phone react to it getting warm yet. I got Netflix and ran that. I think I felt more heat from it downloading apps than using Netflix too. Played HR Battle 3D and didnt notice the heat either.

I still have my Droid X, too bad its beat beyond use so all I can use it for is a comparison. Ppl will run out and buy it because its what they want....lol

Agree. I mean the Bionic is still in the running for me IF something deal breaking comes up with the RAZR. The only thing that would make me switch is battery life and/or no external battery packs like Samsung made for the GS1 and 2. So far the only cons I see from the RAZR is heat from the screen, blue-ish tint from off center viewing, my DX1 is brighter. And if the Bionic screen is better outdoors vs. the Droid X1, its better vs. the RAZR. Even the Amoled vs. LCD debates I was in last year and I always liked LCD better...I like this screen. NOW I see what ppl mean..lol.

So far, overall its a decent piece of hardware.

I had used Bionic close to 2 months before switching to RAZR yesterday. I believe that anybody things that Bionic is better than RAZR either saying it because of their prejudice or telling a lie to themselves. :)
;)

I may switch. What do you like about the RAZR more then your Bionic?

I totally agree with this statement. I purchased the Bionic the first week it launched and it is the inferior phone. Don't get me wrong I still love my phone, but today I went to Verizon and played around with a RAZR and could not help but notice the superior build quality, camera, and screen. Since my bionic is rooted with a custom rom I'm glad that I am able to do a battery pull if needed. The non removable battery is not a serious issue though because we will anyways figure out a way around this, plus it has a reset. I'm definitely gonna be watching developement on this device. I believe the nexus will be good but it will have some issues being the first device to use ICS. The RAZR fixes the mistakes of the bionic and packaged it in a sexy frame and I am green with envy. Congrats to those who got it!

Well I've also had the Bionic since it first came out. The screen on the RAZR is much better for color but as far as brightness you have to dial it up. The whites are not as good. Also the Haptic Feedback is very weak in the RAZR compares to the Bionic. Obviously that is because of size.

The only other thing I would say is the it's so thin it's a bit uncomfortable to hold.

However if I don't like the Nexus I'll be switching to the RAZR. I agree overall it's a completely superior Bionic.
